This was recorded immediately after the 12th annual American Music Awards in a studio near where the awards show was and Q Jones told everyone to check attitudes at the door. 2 musicians that were invited but couldn't drop the attitude was Prince and Waylon Jennings so they didn't let them in. That's why the next year the thing with Prince on stage was kind of a dig at Prince. Bruce Springsteen, Bob Dylan and a few others flew in for the recording because it was for charity.

@@chantellecline6945 I'm sure he did. If I had to guess why he didn't attend was because Prince had to much ego to be second to Michael. It's crazy to think that someone like Bob Geldof felt to compelled to get so involved with the starving Ethiopian people when no one else would. He fought so hard to try and make the world aware. I remember when it all started and it was so sad and heartbreaking to see so many people especially so many young children and babies suffer and die from starvation that I can still remember the horrible images.

I still think it's funny that Dan Aykroyd was one of the background singers. And I'm surprised they didn't have Smokey Robinson sing a solo. My favorite solos were Dion Warwick and Steve Perry. And of course the back and forth with Bruce Springsteen and Stevie Wonder. I wish the new generation of music listeners new the long story of how this all evolved from Bob Geldof's visit to Africa and his determination to find a way to save the starving people of Africa that were dying by the thousands everyday. Starting with the small group formed called Band-Aid to the huge iconic Live aid concert where Queen have their historical performance all the way to USA for Africa we Are the world is truly the story of one man's determination to bring awareness and raise money to save a nation from decimation.

This whole creation was put together by iconic activist and entertainer Harry Belafonte who is the Black dude with the sweater singing in the back. He thought of an American version of what British Band Aid production did the year before with “Do They Know It’s Christmas” and Harry wanted it to be for African relief, and then Lionel and Michael co wrote the song and Quincy produced it. The only weird thing is that icon Smokey Robinson did not have a solo but he was right upfront with the rest of the Motown family Diana, Stevie, and Michael.

This was done in 1985. It still gets me they raised millions in aid to Africa. The government kept most of the money and let the food items and farm equipment rot on the ships in the harbor. This from a doctor with DOCTORS WITHOUT BORDERS. He wrote about it in Readers Digest. Look it up. Loved your reaction tho. Please react to THE CHAMPION by Carrie Underwood and Ludicris. It will touch your musical soul

Cousins, y'all must see Prince react to this song. It was a major award show in the 80s and every major artist was on stage singing this song and Prince just had a lollipop in his mouth because Prince and Michael Jackson were rivals. Prince and Michael were the two biggest commercially successful artists on the planet during the 80s. This performance was so funny that when Quincy Jones forced Prince to sing, Prince took the lollipop out of his mouth and tried to give it to Quincy Jones 😂😂😂😂

This was made after Bob Geldof asked Quincy Jones to lead the American effort on African aid. Many of the credits are in en.wikipedia.org/wiki/We_Are_the_World. Written by Michael Jackson + Lionel Richie. Underrated. After the call-and-answer from Bruce Springsteen and Stevie Wonder, notice the ascending vocal belt from the late James Ingram. Singers like Morissette Amon use this technique. RIP to a number of the fallen. The only non-American singing is Dan Akroyd. He is a Canadian 🍁 from Toronto, ONT. Producer/writer/pianist David Foster, of Victoria, BC, wanted him to sing for the Canadian effort for African relief but American actress Donna Dixon, and wife of DA, and Quincy Jones convinced him otherwise. Some gentle jabbing that two producer/writer QJ did! They still remain friends! LOL Suggested next video: Tears Are Not Enough performed by Northern Lights. This is the Canadian supergroup conducted by David Foster. Bryan Adams, Anne Murray, Geddy Lee + Neil Young are some of the singers. 🇨🇦 Link: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-VJN3u1wAWIk.html
