Canadian Universities often play in stadiums with turf because Canadian winters and shoulder seasons make a grass field a lot of work, especially in Football season
I have played in all of these stadiums. The coolest atmosphere is probably U of S Huskies or U of A Golden Bears. Thanks for doing this video. Go Bisons
Will you do Texas high school football stadiums? A lot of really cool old stadiums and new modern ones of all different sizes. You could go one district at a time (a district is like the equivalent of a conference in college football).
Foote Field is usually pronounced Foot Field. The reason for the roof wings to shed snow in the Mosaic Stadium is that CFL football runs from June to November (U Sports football runs from September to November) and our first snowfall is in October. The University of Saskatchewan has never specified what breed of Huskie they are.
I am not a huge fan of being surrounded by a whole lot of people except for sporting events and concerts and I love stadiums and love that other people find them interesting too.
The canopies on some of these stadium are more for keeping any rain off the fans, but also serves a secondary purpose of keeping fan noise in the stadiums, as football teams rely on on-field communication to call plays and audibles. The fans can disturb this communication causing an enhanced home field advantage, if the visiting team has issues calling plays.
As a Calgarian, I agree that McMahon stadium is the worst CFL stadium. University sports are not nearly as popular in Canada as they are in the US. For Dino games, they only use the east stands, and typically less than 1000 people will show up to watch a game, making the stands very empty.
IG was built after CenturyLink, and I thought they looked a bit similar when I saw IG under construction. That said I've been to CenturyLink as well, and they are quite different when you are there.
Sadly UBC doesn't even fill to capacity most games. On homecoming we usually fill up in the 2nd quarter and in the 3rd all the freshman are done putting the game on their snapchat and back to about 300 fans we are, seriously it's that bad.
Big popularity difference between The two football codes. In Canada no one gives a damn about CFL/Canadian football beyond Manitoba. You’d probably find more American football fans than Canadian football in Ontario and even Quebec (heck even Vancouver might lol).
Enjoyed this vid. U sports are quite the big deal up north, eh? Besides Mosaic and IG Field, the rest are so open aired it's crazy. And, who still uses artificial turf? I will say this, my neighbors to the north are definitely the "outdoorsy types". They love their snow and their cold. And apparently, their road kill. Look it up! God bless em. Awesome job, as always. Cheers, m8!
? Tons of stadiums around the word use artificial turf because it allows for multiple events, community organizations, and sports to be played on one field while natural grass you have to limit all of that. Even in England we see teams promoted into the EFL often have to install grass because they use an artificial grass surface.
