if you set ships to limited during peacetime you can save a lot more money, you can also then reset them to sea control once war breaks out

You definitely need to refit any torpedo armed ships if you want the 3km range. This includes ships currently under construction, they won't get that range, only the refit design. And a critique on your Dreadnought II design: The turret layout is less than ideal. You can get a shorter citadel* (and thus save weight on its armour) by moving a barbette to the rear and have a super firing layout of 2 turrets front and back. If you absolutely want the 3 turrets up front, you can delete the foremost barbette and have the front two turrets (A+B) sit directly on deck with the third (C) superfiring. this, obviously, saves you the barbette in weight. As a general tip, you want the turrets as close together as you can without compromising the turret arc too much. You are quite generous with the spacing between A and B turret. Same as before, as currently designed it lengthens your citadel without gain. I make some allowances for rear turrets as you'll be doing most of the chasing and closing the distance and a good forward angle on the rear turrets might give benefit. But on front turrets, pack those turrets in tight. *citadel being defined as from your most forward primary turret to your rear most primary turret. This is the area that is then covered by the main armoured belt.

As far as I understand, the funnels are the main thing determining where the citadel is. Which makes sense, since that's where the engine is. Agree though that it would be enough with one barbette at front. As it is now, the C gun isn't shooting over B anyway, so its barbette is redundant.

@@anderskorsback4104 You are half right, in that the funnels play a part in the citadel location too. I just didn't want to give too much information. If you build a Nelson/Jean Bart style battleship, the citadel goes from front turret to rear funnel. It's a real weight saver! But on a more conventional design, it is as described. One neat feature of the firing limits, in this case for C turret, is that when firing at long range the barrels can and do elevate enough to fire over the B turret. It's a neat little detail.

Hey Chris, since you enjoy this game I think you should try out UBOAT. It's recently gotten out of early access and its basically in the name. You play as a Uboat in world war 2. The game has a very customizable difficulty and conplexity from having everything done automatically with less realistic and more gamey mechanics to completely historical realism and doing everything from intercepting ships to shooting torpedoes manually. I also think it gives a great opportunity to discuss real history as the game can start from September 1, 1939 till the end of the war and you can see the war progress throughout the war as you try to get better technology and the allies employ better anti-submarine tactics throughout the war following historical dates.

Exceeding the capacity of a port is entirely viable, it just means a slight increase in ship upkeep cost and a slowdown of the rate that ships get serviced, but it's doable if you have no other base. Otherwise it'd be entirely unfeasible to use various remote islands as naval bases. I managed a naval war against China with a fleet over 100k tons from just two bases in Saipan and Borneo. If you're looking to save weight on ships, going for cramped crew quarters is worth considering. The feature is misleadingly named, having more crew space than cramped doesn't actually mean the crew get more space per man, or any benefits from better living conditions. Instead, settings above cramped increase the total amount of crew the ship can have, which means having spare crew to fill in for others that get taken out in battle. But since crew training is expensive as it is, I now never go for more than the minimum crew that cramped gives.

If a ship has an obsolete hull they will not buy the ship. So scrap obsolete hulls and mothball any others to be sold.

I've heard it gives the closest thing a computer can offer to an authentic u-boat experience, including making you shake from PTSD after having survived getting depth-charged.

@anderskorsback4104 yes, just took out a battleship last night and the amount of depth charges I survived is quite insane and then I had to get past the uboat nets, it was crazy.. thankfully attacked at night

Is there a way to get underway refueling/replenishment via transports? Might still be too early for that. (I have the game, still in the training mode.) And, assuming this would be way down the timeline, but floating drydocks to repair ships at sea?

There is... kinda. If you have ships out at sea they will top off ammo and fuel if there's a nearby port under your control without having to go into that port. What the exact mechanics are I don't know. I think your ships have to be stopped to benefit from it. Sailing through an area with friendly ports seems to do nothing for the fuel situation. But I could be wrong.
