I was just curious to be honest. If I got as many factors as close as possible, would my Vox AC30 Pre-amp and Power amp fed into a UA OX (a Speaker / Room and Mic simulator) sound better than the same Vox AC30 Pre-amp power amp into a real cab mic and room.
Obviously this is far from a perfect test. There are factors I can't replicate.
1. The outboard gear UA used when recording their AC30 cab
2. The room and reflections
3. The EQ settings UA used to dial in the sound
4. And a bunch of other factors that would add up to a difference in the final recording and capture.
Still... It's a fun experiment. Rip my approach to shreds, but I figured this would be a fun experiment.
The factors that are the same in this video:
1. I recorded both the AC30 Cab and UA ox on the same take (no variation in playing). This means the real AC30 preamp, EQ settings and power amp were exactly the same.
2. I used an open back cab with alnico blue speakers in the UA workstation as well as in the real cab
3. I used an off-axis SM57 mic for both the UA and real cab
4. I used a carpeted room in both the UA and real recordings
