I purchased this card a week ago and I just realized how to truly use Unison pres because of this video. I was adding the pres and amp sims in the insert section before lol. I was wondering why the 610 was only useable in the Line setting and super distorted in the two available impedances. Also finally figured out where the sends were going to apply reverbs. Man, I feel dumb and thankful for youtube. Obviously subscribed.
@@DoryVideo Have you done any other videos on the Console as just bought the Apollo Mk II and there is not much in the way of lile running busses from Cubase to be able to use the plug ins from UAD in the console.
Why not just set up the bus in Cubase and apply an insert or send fx using UAD plugins? That’s the simplest way of doing it and you then get the UAD sound in your DAW.
@@DoryVideo Thanks for the info, I'm doing that now, I wasn't aware that the inserts were using the Apollo's dsp as so to speak so they use the Apollo's.
Great tutorial, even some hints for experiencend users. Just one thing at 7:18 - it's not a low pass but a high pass filter (as it suppresses the low frequencies and let pass the high ones). Thanks.
Hello Sir! I've got Apollo Twin Duo USB (my OS is Windows 10) and I've record voice through analog pre-amp. Then signal goes to analog-digital converter and than through optical cable I recieve signal by Apollo twin as a Line In. So Windows 10 sound panel recognize signal sorrectly but Google Chrome, Telegram messenger, Whatsapp, DaVinchi Resolve don't recognize Line In signal. Can you please help me about this Sir? Thank you!
Very helpful overview of the UA Console. I’m just getting to grips with it & can’t quite figure out how you were able to apply Reverb from the Aux even though the Aux fader on your mic channel was off if you could please explain? I feel like I’m potentially missing a useful feature. Thanks
Hi Thanks for this run through it's the most concise Iv'e' found on you tube, I'm running cu base 6 .5 artist which works fine for me the problem I have is getting the best setting inside vst connections I've tried 11 stereos and two mono's etc but they don't work . Cheers Vivid.
Hi there, I bought this for TV narrator recordings and easy recallable access to different signal chains for different voices pre record. On the one hand it is pretty easy to use, on the other it is not that high quality signal chain that you would expect from the good old Universal Audio hardware days. I believe they use a trick keeping the noise floor as low as possible by simply gating it if the signal is too low. You can hear that (at least in my case) when recording through unison preamps followed by a 1176 with veeery gentle compression to achieve a bit more headroom. Speaking of unison technology: I think it is fine for setups that require easy recallable access to the parameters but it doesn't even get close to the real deal. I would never ever prefer unison over a hardware pre. The modeled pres can get pretty harsh sounding in some situations where the analog gear is much more forgiving. Especially when it comes to summing signals. But that's another story. Thank you for the video! Thumbs up!
In the audio for your video it sounds weird because on top of the signal from the Apollo, there is a very wide copy being played which isn’t affected by the processing. When you turned up the gain on the compressor for a second it sounded regular but then went back to sounding weird when you turned on more gain reduction.
Hi, I’m a vocalist and do a one piece gig using backing tracks from my MacBook... Question: As there is no latency, can I use the MKII QUAD on my live gigs? I see there’s and output fir speakers so I could use my powered speakers and have sone awesome vocal fx yes??
Dory Video oh really!!? Wow!! Are there any videos on this setup? At the moment I’m using a powerhouse horizon Studiomaster desk that’s 20 years old and I’m barely hanging on to it simply because of the sound quality from the reverbs and eq ... no desk out there beats it for the vocal presence and power is unreal!! But hopefully I may be able to get close if not better through the MkII... any vids on RU-vid would be great if you could direct me! And thanks so much for your prompt response 👍🏾
I have an Apollo x6. Anyone know how I can add an input gain knob for analog channels 3-6? I’ve looked everywhere and looking through videos. By default I get them for channels 1-2.
Can a universal controller, like the behringer x-touch, be used to control the Console and essentially use it as a digital mixer with an Apollo unit? There are times this would be useful without having to open up a full DAW session...
It would be useful but for reasons known only to Universal Audio they have never implemented and MIDI control of their console. Great shame. Would be great if they did.
I need some help. I have the x8 but I can’t figure out how to use 5-8. I mic up my drums with the mic 1-4. And want to use 5-8 guitar and bass can you show me how I can do it and I also have the twin have can I connect the together
Thanks so much for the walkthrough. Does anyone know if there is a way to have control over your monitors and subwoofer in the UA Console? I am coming from a 10 yr old TC Konnekt 48 where you have a full speaker management system whereby you can set the x-over and slope for your mains and sub from the console, choose between 3 sets of monitors, and save all your custom presets for each. I am very impressed with my new Apollo 8 Quad but I am surprised UA hasn't incorporated this, unless I am missing something. Cheers. en.audiofanzine.com/tests_v3/tc_electronic/sk48/05-routing_2.jpg
me dumb!! how do i get my console to come up on the screen>??? i just hooked my new apollo up today.. it was up during set up.. cant get it back in view
I cant figure out how to get the console open on my computer and cant find any help for it, I only get the little square box. I use a windows laptop, anyone know what I'm doing wrong?
Inputs that are Odd: 1,3,5,7 etc. Even: 2,4,6,8 etc and adjacent (e.g. 1,2; 7,8 ) can be paired and made stereo. Can you explain a little better what you are trying to achieve??
some of these plugins still use more cpu than for example the equivalent waves emulations, EVEN THOUGH it's supposed to be calculated by the interface... guess the communication between DSP core and CPU isn't easy for the computer as well...
That’s true, every UAD plugin does use a little processor. I’ve not noticed that it’s any more than the waves equivalent but sonically, to my ears, they do sound better than the waves equivalents.
@@DoryVideo yes the plugins are awesome, waves are very nice too though, waves tends to sound a little grittier in my mind/UAD smoother. yesterday i tested Manley Massive passive CPU load for example, and it was at 4 to 5%!! as a comparison, the plugin which until this point used more CPU than any other of my plugins was Weiss DS1-MK3 with 0,8 to 1%. also i'm running 94 vst right now in my daw with a latency of 2.67ms with lots of very nice plugs, not much more latency than UAD claims to have, which is also not always right by the way =D so the argument of saving CPU with UAD is kind of a lie, the benefits are amazing sounding plugins, mic pres, converters and workflow for recording, but for mixing and mastering, i will not use these too much, as its also annoying that the plugs don't work without the interface... i want to test the UA versions of some plugins against the Plugin Alliance versions and see the CPU and latency differences, that would be veeeeery interesting, don't own any of the same instances though... do you maybe? nice video btw!
Thanks. Depends which plugins you use. I have the quad Apollo and using reverbs, tape saturation and other plugins have almost no CPU overhead but use all four cores of the UAD. I tend to use the UAD plugins for certain tasks on busses for instance rather than every track, so it saves a lot on CPU for me. I’m not sure I fully believe your calculations. Having a UAD plugin on a channel insert in your DAW will add some latency but having the UAD plugin in the inserts on your Apollo inputs will not making this the perfect solution for tracking with ZERO latency with processor intensive plugins.
@@DoryVideo yes, the massive passive is extreme, the LA2A and 1176 emulations eat up just 0.2% of CPU inside Reaper, waves versions eat up about 0.15%, so the difference is small there. the latency of UAD isn't 0, it's under 2 milliseconds without plugins, 1,1ms roundtrip, and adding plugins in console can increase the latency. though if you use plugins that are lean on CPU and don't add latency, you can get the same results without their interfaces, and a lot of their plugins are available somewhere else with no need for their interface, i think if there at least was the option that i can use them in mixing without the interface, that would actually add a lot of value to their plugins and i would be much happier spending such huge amounts per unit. of course recording with console is awesome! also the unison technology is great! their preamps rock and the ADDA conversion, and my Twin X is a great monitor controller, still love it
Hi Thanks for the nice explainations- I have another question, i use my UAD Interface between laptop and my stereo setup to playback some suff. ( Source is then what i am playing in my Computer). Qout put goes over Line-out 1 and 2. So my question is how can i use plugins to edit the audio output which goes out from the UAD Interface ( apallo Twin Quard) to my stereo setup? Thanks in Advance.
Sadly you can’t add plugins to the output bus from your computer, there are some clever apps for macOS which allow plugins in the output chain of core audio but you’d have to buy them extra.
@@DoryVideo Hello Thanks for the quick reply. Could you please tell me a name of this kind of app? By the way, when i select in Settings of my comuter UAD as "Audio", then the computer audio goes to the console right? this can be seen as a input in Console, but where? i just see the output sugnals going out of the console, but where it comes from, ist not shown. Could you plz help me? May be i can add plugins if l find this source in inputs. Thanks
SoundSource will let you add AU fx on the output path of core audio, doesn’t use the co sole app but will allow you to add UAD plugins on the output path.
