I was in the crowd for this video. As a member of the UB40 FanClub. It was filmed on Ickneild Port Road, Winson Green, Birmingham. Amazing day #Memories 😃🎺🎸🎶🎼💝
@@staceyanrichardson6664 it was many years ago. I was 19 lol. Have you heard of Johnny2Bad the UB40 tribute band? If not try and go see them, they are award winning, fun, have great energy and bring the uniqueness of the UB40 sound due to their local Birmingham roots. www.johnny2bad.live.com 😀🎷🎵🎤🎶
@H This song was a sizeable chart hit in the UK in the summer of 1986. At precisely that time the then South African president PW Botha had invoked a State of Emergency, enabling the use of harsher powers against rioters and protesters. Cue news footage of crowds being scattered and chased by thugs in uniform brandishing shamboks, etc.
The great flood of tears that we've cried For our brothers and sisters who've died Over four hundred years Has washed away our fears And strengthened our pride Now we turn back the tide We will no longer hear your command We will seize the control from your hand We will fan the flame Of our anger and pain And you'll feel the shame For what you do in gods name We will fight for the right to be free We will build our own society And we will sing, we will sing We will sing our own song When the ancient drum rhythms ring The voice of our forefathers sings Forward Africa run Our day of freedom has come For me and for you Amandla Awethu We will fight for the right to be free We will build our own society And we will sing, we will sing We will sing our own song We will fight for the right to be free We will build our own society And we will sing, we will sing We will sing our own song
This song always make me cry for our beloved Africa....and also gives me hope that one day we will be free from corrupt politicians, imperialism, modern day slavery and poverty...
ANGEL productions sorry to say but 30 years later and what's happening around the planet makes me think we're permanently fucked, it's not getting better but more greed than ever, more killing, rape and starving across this planet.
Gwen Lindsay didnt know what to chose..like your coment or diss like..but what ever choises people make..you are so right that it hurts 💔 yet we must never give up hop.
Amanda Awethu! This song came out just before the end of the hated apartheid! Much love to all our multicoloured sisters and brothers in SA from the Brits that love you!
This song is so powerful. UB40 did so much for culture in my country, they are the real representation of the real people. One love, no colour divide, no race divide, we are all equal, we are all brothers and sisters, one love always and forever, so much respect x
But UB40 not the same no more, all because Ali Campbell left due to management issues same as astro and Mickey virtue too! And then Brian Travers died and astro too. Robin Campbell took on new members, but it'll never be the same though especially without Ali!

Pasaran años y años, y este clásico de UB40 tendrá el mismo encanto vigente desde que se escuchó por primera vez. Es transportable y da alegría permanente al corazón.
But I doubt that will ever happen you know. I remember Ali Campbell saying in a you tube video, he'll never go back to UB40 and remain how he is with his small UB40 band. Robin Campbell took on new members, but it'll never be the same especially without Ali! And furthermore, both Brian Travers and astro died just to make things worse. I actually met astro briefly, and also Brian Travers and their manager at the time Paul hunter at their studio in fazeley street just past Birmingham city center just over 20 years ago, but their studio isn't there no more, got demolished, it was called d.e.p international. It was still quite new though, it hadn't long been renovated. Oh and I've also met norman Hassan twice, at the studio before it got renovated 31 years ago, and I saw him again coming out of Trafalgar road balsall heath waiting at the traffic lights on junction of alcester road/Brighton road in his range rover nearly 30 years ago. From Roger.
Oh wow never heard this live version! Amandla Awethu! Africa is the home of us all, like a mother but less cared for. This fills my whole heart with joy!!!!
Good night Astro, hope you are gigging "upstairs" with Brian. UB40 songs were the anthem of my youth in Kings Heath, Birmingham UK. Rear easy. ♥️❤️♥️ Much love.
This is probably my favourite song from ub40 grew up with our parents thrashing them but wouldnt even have a clue what the song was about back then, later on when i actually understood what this song was about, it now lives rent free in me 🖤
ok I was never fully committed to the lyrics, i just absolutely love the intro and the vibe of this sing. but now the penny has dropped it makes me very emotional.
Hmmmm. . . Upon reflection, is it good to be mindful of what we do in Gods name, while building the right Kingdom ? . . . . ((( while so many others are building their versions of societies and kingdoms and laws and communities) --> Wise yet innocent. . . . Do good, do well, love mercy, while doing justice. . . Walking humbly with your God. . . .not using Him as a weapon. . . . Or to control others ugh, cos He loves them too, even if they don’t realise it yet. . . . . Just thoughts 🙏🏻 ✝️ 🙏🏻 ✝️ True Freedom is found in Jesus Christ who Loved and died for All, no matter what race. Culture, nation, tribe, beliefs - He will transform your mind to His own Loving Wise Mind and give you a new heart, a new spirit and a new mind to do well in this world and then you’ll inherit ETERNAL LIFE 😊
South Africa 1987. I am in Martic (Grade 12). We are on the run from the Apartheid police for being labeled Instigators of Violence and accused of trying to overthrow the government. It is one in the morning. We are on our way from a meeting to hide at a teacher's house. This song is playing. We listen with Hope and determination. Amandla Ngawethu ! ( Power to the People) And now we Free.....
Oh Cheryl, Cheryl Cheryl !.... some day you'll comprehend what i said...maybe you should go back to school.... and learn this time....you'll get there.. :)
Writeowl Are you blonde by any change. He said he was listening to the song, not watching utube. He is also speaking of an event in his life, not something off of a video. Coming from South Africa myself, I know exactly what MrCurpy is speaking about. I would suggest you take your own advice! While you're at it, get yourself an education my dear.
I Swear the kind of resolve I see in Ali as he sings "The voice of our forefathers sing" makes me completely forget the color of his skin and focus on the basic human clamor and right to be free. One of the greatest lyricists who ever lived!
As a As a South African, this song hits hard. The world helped fight for our freedom, a freedom that is relative. Our country is the most unequal society in the world. Life is cheap, and we have the highest statistics of rape and violence against women globally. All of this could have been eradicated were it not for the corruption of the ruling party. There is still a great flood of tears that we cry. May the politicians feel ashamed for what they do in God's name.

UB40 doing the Labour of Love albums gave a lot of Jamaican artists the voice that they deserved to let it be known so respect to UB40 for letting it be known that's what the Labour of Love albums R about so BIG IT UP...
Just as UB40 were Signing Off in 1981, I was signing on at the same dole office in Moseley, Birmingham. We almost crossed paths. They have been my heroes since I saw them live at Nottingham University in June 1981, when I graduated. Great local heroes.
I was at the concert" Rat in the kitchen" tour 1986 Wembley , good mix of all race and generations all loving this music ( I was 15).. Think UB40 have done more to unite creed and colour than most elected politicians have . I am now 46 and I still see corrupt goverments forcing agendas that crush the average man/woman and cause divisions for political gain.= or hidden agenda's. We need more bands like UB40 to sing out for mass's
I am a UB40 fan. Love their music. This is a great Liberation song. But up until today we being oppressed by our Own brothers whom my forefathers stood with thru the struggle for democracy in SA.
I don't think songs like Dream A Lie, My Own Way of Thinking, The Pillow, etc were covers. Lots of originals, which I much preferred to the covers on the Labour of Love series.
King,Food For Thought,The Earth Dies Screaming,Don't Let it Pass You By,One in Ten,Don't Break My Heart (at least I don't think that was a cover),Rat in My Kitchen and so many others.
@@alexbrown1864 I am an old soul, I feel I don't connect with today's generation type of music and I will never get tired of listening to such good music like UB40's till am old and grey...! 😅
Good call Jenny....you should get the earphones on a listen to a bit of Stevie wonder.....Donna summer......my music is my life I'm totally wide open to anything...💕
