the concept of SATs are so weird to me, a non-american, because where i'm from each university/college that you apply to has their own entrance exam that you have to take. so if you pass one of the exams then yay! you're in that specific college

Yeah, and now because of COVID, some schools just have admission processes and interviews even though some do offer zoom exams. Still waiting for the results of one, the admission site of another, and just starting applying for yet another because I just got my requirements yesterday. Btw, I am from🇵🇭

I'm also from the PH, in grade 11, and I just want to be ready even though I still have a year left because of these uncertain times.. I can't get over how the US tests are formatted. Since seventh or eighth grade, we have only essay based exams, multiple choice etc are only considered for weekly tests in history and the like. By the end of high school, I can't imagine taking an exam in less than 4 hours, writing less than 12 pages of essays 😅

A lot of tests in the US are essay based too, but the sat is like a huge exam with lots and lots of people writing it so it would be really hard to have someone manually read every single essay. multiple choice questions are either right or wrong, so it’s much easier to grade

If you know what VCE is, it’s like the GAT except you pay $60 to take it. It used to have an optional writing task. And that money goes to a corporation (Collegeboard) that makes the AP subject exams (multiple choice, essays, short response) and used to make the SAT II subject exams (80 multiple choice in an hour). In particular, the AP exams should have similar difficulty to the sciences and higher-level maths. Its full name used to be Scholastic Assessment Test, now it doesn’t stand for anything. Another exam similar type is the ACT, which has an additional science section focused on reading results from graphs and such.

just remember it's a high school exam and i already passed that stage of studying -- if ur a high schooler it'd be like you retaking a middle school test. i found it pretty hard in high school too which i why i had to study a lot :)

It’s funny how this video came up a few days before my last SAT lol. As an Asian, I can for sure assure that you don’t get an automatic 800 in math bc of ur “superior Asian mathematics” genetics. I studied for hours to take the ACT and scored a 30 which I'm happy with. My mom then signed me up for the SAT because it was at my school about a month later but she didn't tell me so I only studied for like an hour the night before and scored a 1150! Of course I sent my SAT score to some safety's automatically at the beginning so hopefully they don't care about that too much fml!

I actually never took a ACT/SAT. That's because I decided to take my lower division classes at a community College and if your transferring to a university you don't need to take a ACT/SAT if you transfer from a community college

you can do like jasmine and get a mock SAT beforehand online and see the format, before you take SATs. You can also go to Khan Academy to practice, maybe? A lot of foreign curriculums seem to frame their questions to be harder than SAT questions, so I don't know how that'll affect you, but don't stress too much!

Im from the UK and I’ve always wondered how hard the SAT was so I did one the other day, completely without preparation, and got a 1550: 800 on the maths and 750 on the reading and writing. To be honest it’s not hard at all, it’s just that the time pressure can cause you to make mistakes. I made all my all my mistakes in the reading and writing because that’s my weaker side though I think if I practiced enough I could get a perfect or near perfect score.

I don't know about the SAT but the military ASVAB, AFQT, or whatever it's called today, you can only retake it once and you're stuck with that score regardless if you scored higher the first time taking it. I was told the math portion of the ASVAB you're graded on how many you got right in 10 minutes and the ones you didn't answer don't count against you, so basically all you have to do is answer one math question you're 100% certain about, skip the rest, and you score a 100% in the math section; unfortunately the recruiters don't tell you this before taking the test. All the other questions you're graded traditionally and the ones you skipped count against you. The recruiters always say to pick an answer, you might get lucky. It would explain how some people score in the high 90s and qualify for math intensive fields but usually get dropped from those schools later on because they can't handle anything other than basic math.

@@studyquill I had plenty of undergrad courses that were easier than some of my AP classes. Later on my neuro-psychopharmacology professor was invited to sit in on the UCLA version of her course and when she returned to us she said her course was actually more difficult than the UCLA one so she cut down the page requirement of our research paper by like 3 pages. And that's a course I took for fun. Yes, the actual psych majors that were required to take that course looked at me like I was crazy when I said I was taking it for fun. That professor ended up accepting a research position at UCLA because they would allow her to assign graduate students to teach her lower division courses so she could focus on research. Meanwhile at my university the faculty actually teach their own courses.

Jasmine, when I saw the thumbnail, the first thought in my mind was that "SAT" means Saturday (-U-)........................... !!!!! ?????? because I've never heard of this exam before ( in India) for high school students instead, we have NTSE, which is a little bit different from this, but you've inspired me to take "SAT" so I'll give it a try.

in brazil the exam we do is called ENEM and there are questions about portuguese, math, history, geography, physics, chemistry, biology, a foreign language and literature, besides the essay we have to write and i took the test twice. it got me into college but even if, someday in the future, i wanted to do another major i would give up just to not take that again. imagens just doing it for fun. you have to be brave hahaahah my self esteem would go down the drain seeing my score after almost 4 years since i took the exam 😩

i’m crying i took the SAT twice in high school and i’m taking two astronomy classes currently and i couldn’t even answer that one astronomy question that showed up 💀💀
