The leap from PS1/N64 graphics to PS2/NGC was INSANE. Those times will never come back... And remember, Metrioid Prime is a 480p 60FPS native on GameCube!
I just wanna make this clear since quite a few people seem to ask: This is NOT a Metroid Prime remake project in any way; this was a one-off fan art project to practice level building in unreal. This is the finished product. I'm very happy to hear that people would want more of this, but remaking a WHOLE GAME was never my intention, not even in my wildest dreams. I really don't wanna give people false hopes. Sorry for the confusion!
You are too much humble, i know you must still working on your own only for the self satisfaction. PD: I'm your fan and i will love to see the reimagination of Another games, maybe super mario world looking like odyssey or Demon's crest. Saludos.
Gogiga Gagagilasaurus or if just could’ve got MP4 when the switch first came out. Then we could focus on mp5 on next gen. But to think about it like that, frustrates the crap outta me. Because the game should’ve been delivered. And we should be getting part 5 or so soon. But if it’s Mario or Zelda Nintendo makes sure they put all effort in. Smh
@@VitahniVaughn That's a playable game, this is a video. If he provided a download link, Nintendo would have struck that shit down in an instant. They can't remove videos though, since he's not sharing assets that Nintendo made.
@@VitahniVaughn Say what you will but even though it got taken down AM2R still made Nintendo get into action and make Samus Returns so maybe if this guy were to go through with it it might get similar results
Geez, so many comments about "Prime 4 won't look as good as this cause it's on the Switch", well of course it won't look like this, this is a PC build. However, that doesn't mean it'll look awful or nothing like this. Do you guys really think Nintendo doesn't know how to work with their own hardware? or what, you're telling me Super Mario Odyssey or Bayonetta 2 (games specifically made for Nintendo consoles) look horrible? Heck, even Starlink: Battle for Atlas, a game made for multiplatform, still manages to look amazing on the Switch. Really, if they could get such good looks for the Prime saga with the Gamecube and even the Wii of all things, what makes anyone think they won't try that with the Switch too? Don't be so negative guys. Nothing against this demo btw, cause it really does look amazing. Great job!
Lol you should check the comments on a video about halo SPV3. It's a mod for the first halo game where they changed almost everything. And everyone was so quick to tell 343 that they suck and halo will never look as good. I got instant flashbacks.
GameCube was one of the most powerful consoles of its era (only out paced *slightly* by Xbox). It looked amazing for its time as a result of that, and amazing engine work by Retro. Prime 3 was nothing special looking compared to 360/PS3 era games. It looks dated / last gen at release, the Wii's small boost in clocks still didn't help it not look like a GameCube era game. Prime 4 isn't even developed by Retro, or internally by Nintendo. kicked off to Namco Bandai, who isn't even working it internally, kicked off to their Singapore branch. Not writing their own engine but using UE4. We'll see how this turns out, but its NOT the same love that Prime 1 got.
worldwidepants Actually, most of that stuff you said about the game's developement is just rumors. Nintendo hasn't officially confirmed anything about that, the most they've said is that it isn't being developed by Retro. And even then, even if they don't develop their games they still oversee every step of the Project, they don't just hand out their properties and say "go nuts". Heck, the main producer is still Yoshio Sakamoto, the same guy who's worked on every Metroid game. You can't just say that it isn't getting the same amount of love based on the little info we have about the game. Yeah, I know the Gamecube was one of the most powerful consoles of it's time and yeah that had a hand on why the Prime games looked good then. Thing is, whenever I fire up a game from my old 360 I always think "Hmm, I remember this looking better" but whenever I play Prime 1 or 2 or even 3 again I think "wow, this looks pretty cool". What I'm trying to say is, Nintendo games have never really shined visually because of their graphics but rather because of their artstyle. That's what I meant when I said Nintendo knows how to work with what they have. They know how to bring out the aesthetic of their games without turning to the more streamlined methods that many other game developers nowadays use. It was like that for BOTW, it was like that for Mario Odyssey, that's what their doing with Yoshi and I expect Prime 4 to be no different. Sure, it may not look as sharp as something like say, Anthem or Monster Hunter World but who's to say it won't be comparable to that? maybe it will, maybe it won't, I say, let's just believe in the best cause, at least that's what I want to think they're giving this.
Nintendo will take his money, that's for sure. And then have this piece of art deleted, even though they're not releasing anything themselves. A foul company that bullies its greatest fans the hardest.
Revisiting this video after the surprise reveal of Metroid Prime Remastered is nothing short of being straight up magical. It's impossible that the team at Retro hasn't seen this and I'm pretty confident that it served as a huge inspiration for what the remaster should look like. As such, I am filled with bliss and cannot thank you enough Maximiliaan. I only wish the remaster had doors slightly more like yours and a bit more detail like those bricks next to the door behind the half-pipe, but hey, they did the whole game and it must have taken forever to make that single room in UE4 so props to them for efficiency and being able to make it run on the Switch.
Absolutely breathtaking. I would kill for an HD remaster of the Prime Trilogy. There’s rumors that Prime 4 will be running on Unreal Engine 4, but like all rumors, take it with a grain of salt. Still, if it’s true, and it turns out looking anything close to this, I’ll be impressed. Nice work!
Varia the Hunter even if metroid used unreal 4, I️ doubt I️t would look this good, considering this is just a quick look around, not a game. Though... I️ do expect I️t to look quite nice. Lol people think metroid will look shit but you have to remember they made great looking open world games on even the Wii U, and metroid has always looked incredible for when it’s released... this good tho... nah
Dan Root it could look better tbh this switch is pretty beefy compared to the wii and look at the graphics they pushed with that, unreal 4 does set high expectations though lol
Brady Woods yes it can run on the switch. But it won't looks as good. As I said you can make anything in UE and some of that stuff will run great on the switch some of it (like the stuff in this video) won't run at all because it uses things that are too graphically intensive for the TegraX1 chip to handle even on only 30fps. On the end graphics come down to hardware. Yes there are still beautiful games on the switch like Xenoblade 2 but they are *very* stylized to cover up shortcomings of the hardware and use any trick they can get.
Sinom I fully agree I just think based off of how good breath if the wild looks at launch of the switch in a year or two when prime 4 comes out and they understand the hardware even more and we will see a game with great visuals that yes wont be a carbon copy of this but could look better in it's own way
As plenty of people have said most fan-made reworks of classic games just look atrocious, they butcher the artstyle, saturate the colors far to much, fill the lv with way to many stock unreal engine effects and crank up the bloom for some unknown reason and ruin everything. But this, this looks phenomenal, the colors, the tone, the restraint with particle effects, the textures, everything is spot on.
This made my actual jaw actually drop. Metroid prime is a gorgeous game even by the standards 20 years in the future, and this really captured the feel of the environment and brought it to another level. Just awesome.
It's pretty rare to see a proof of concept remake like this actually capture the spirit of the original game, but you did a fantastic job doing just that. It almost looks and feels like an official game. You deserve all the props you can get.
I’m absolutely blown away, this is an all time favorite game of mine, brings back so many childhood memories, amazing job, everything is just breathtaking, you should look into re-doing something from Serious sam: the next encounter.
It will be similar since it's being made mostly by bandai namco, and they love unreal engine 4 so it'll probably be in the same engine. I'd say it will look similar, but not as insanely detailed as this sadly. I'm certain Prime 4 will look 10x better than the other Prime games.
@@cosmo9925 I am hoping we will get the trilogy as a means of increasing our hype for prime 4 on the switch. It doesn't have to be HD remake just port the controllers on the games and your good. God I want to go back to these games if my Wii wasn't dying!!
thats whisful thinking but at least I expect the game adopts the FPS movement mechanics after playing titanfall 2 I dream about a super metroid in FPV.
Absolutely brilliantly made. I come back to this vid every so often to just be amazed. Unreal engine remakes usually don't look good. .... This ..... this is what I want for prime 4. It's perfect.
@@randomrandomnesss2188 Well since Prime 4 isn’t coming any time soon, Nintendo has time to release their new console with the upgraded graphics and RAM.
@@DavidNwokoye Even if Nintendo released a new Console like The Switch Pro and it had 120fps and contained 12 TGLOPS of computing power, and then put Prime 4 as an exclusive on it, I would definitely buy both. For not having a proper Prime game since 2007, definitely seems worth it.
@@TheLegendofMetroid94 I've been playing the Metroid Prime trilogy with HD texture packs on Dolphin emulator with PrimeHack. It looks like a modern fps game. I'd definitely still boot up the switch emulator
Hey, Retro Studios is looking for an Art Director and a Lead Graphics Engineer for Metroid Prime 4 right now! You could totally get a chance to get that job. It would be amazing if you apply to it!
Honestly, not even that far off from the remaster. If you told me you were hired by Retro Studios in the past 4 years and contributed to the game, I would believe you.. I'm honestly shocked at how good the game looks and performs on the switch.
I wanted to thank you @MilkyMax for your video. Not only because it looks good. But I think you inspired Retro Studio the perfect way to remaster Metroid Prime. You're a legend, bless you.
Absolutely amazing job 😃😃 Wherever you were these past years, retro sure missed a gem in the graphics design department. This’ll probably shake the current Metroid Prime 4 you’ve increased my expectations for them quite a bit now good on you! 👍👍👍
This is absolutely fantastic !!! I am blown away by the attention to detail while keeping it as original as possible. Really nicely done. Would love to see more.
Why do I get the strange feeling that the actual Metroid Prime 4 won't look as good as this fanmade project? Seriously, this is some professional level stuff. You have a bright future in the gaming industry. Absolutely beautiful
Did you know that Bandai Namco will be developing Metroid Prime 4? Furthermore, the soon-to-be released Nintendo Switch exclusive will be powered by Unreal Engine 4.
NINTENDO_SONYFAN SOLDIER She can't survive. All Phazon was destroyed because the planet Phaaze was killed and presumably destroyed as well. That's why Samus returned back to normal and didn't get corrupted.
NINTENDO_SONYFAN SOLDIER She survived after Prime 2 because the Planet Phaaze was still around and alive. The Planet Phaaze is dead. Samus destroyed Dark Samus. It's not possible for Dark Samus to exist without Planet Phaaze being alive.
Wow, that is gorgeous! I so hope this is what Metroid Prime 4 looks like. Imagine how insanely cool Magmadoor Caverns or Phendrena Drifts would look...
Sth29Productions haha thanks, but I don't know about that... It might not look as realistic, but the atmospere and style of metroid levels has always been amazing so far
It'll never look this good on the Switch. Doom and Wolfenstein are decent, but they run as low as 360p to even achieve some resemblance to the original visuals.
Remember that they are ports... Metroid Prime 4 is only being built for the Switch, even if it doesn't look as good as this, there's almost zero chance of it looking like Doom.
That's not how it works. This guy gets sued and his content eradicated so they can continue shelling out generic cartoonish carbon copy cash cow "games."
@@coolguy02536 Nintendo has not been that strict since 2017, They actually appreciate stuff like this. But if the creator launches an existing title for people to play like AMR2. Then yes it will be taken down.
This is soooo beautiful!! I love this! As a long time metroid fan, I approve of this mini-remake, instead of just upping the bloom and remixing the main theme, you made this a whole experience! This also brings a lot of nostalgia since I played the prime trilogy as a kid. Amazing job man!
Could you imagine if Nintendo released a trailer for Metroid Prime 4 that looked like this, with original environments and showcasing one or two never-before-seen gameplay mechanics? My god...
Eustace Bagge You're probably right. I'm a massive Metroid fan though, so it's difficult to watch something like this and not get carried away imagining how good Metroid Prime 4 could be if Nintendo do it right!
You and me both man. Having expectations low is a must, but it is near impossible to not get excited about MP4... Even if it doesn't look as sharp as this, I just hope its good.
axispro221 Actually, I agree. I'm psyched for a new Metroid game, but I believe Nintendo should have started fresh under a new name. Metroid Dread is a fantastic name that I wish saw the light of day.
My god... It's so beautiful... The graphics are amazing and so breathtaking! In my opinion, even though Metroid Prime 4 might not be that good, at least there's a new one. But just imagine if it was... You great citizen, made me feel some good nostalgia right there, thank you!
You do understand you are the reason why Metroid Prime 4 was delayed and remade again from ground up. They saw your awesome video and had to remake everything from scratch :) You really nailed it with the atmosphere and recreating the environment with care. Good work!!
Goulgan “. . . you went a little overboard. . .” is a compliment to you? Well, in the context of this larger comment section, you see people upset by how this looks, so it’s actually easier to see why this is not a compliment.
What work? This work? Yes, looks awesome. But Nintendo has some of the most talented artists, programmers and designers in the industry. It's not like this guy can do something that nobody at Nintendo can. Nintendo could easily do this if Switch hardware could handle.. besides.. Nintendo is not even working on Metroid Prime 4 they outsourced it to Bandai Namco... so it would make even less sense for Nintendo to hire him. If you wanted to see him work on Metroid Prime, Bandai Namco should be the one to hire him.
>some of the most talented artists, programmers and designers in the industry >Federation Force Yeah, there's a reason Nintendo doesn't hire actual talented people like this guy and AM2R's crew.
I love how this wasn't just "Shiny Surfaces and bloom go brrrrrr", you put a lot of work into translating the look of Prime and I amazed to see you work on your own projects or at big studios in the future amazing work
With all the open world games we have today, nothing touches even this one simple little small section we are seeing right here. There's no comparison, and a testament to just how timeless this game is, even without this fan revision made using unreal.
Knowing NintenDon't, a public download link is not happening. They DMCA everything that bears their IP but isn't made by them. Honestly, I'm surprised they haven't attacked deviantArt at this point.
coming back here after playing Metroid Prime Remastered and realizing man. you've been pretty hush hush over the years did Retro Studios steel you away? lol
I have to say, beautiful job on this. The lighting and effects in this 3 minute short are not only breathtaking, but you truly captured the moment with your absolutely stunning masterpiece. AMAZING job, and I would love to see more, and thank you for this.
“I could spend an eternity in here” -Professor Xai, Head of Anthropology at Ba Sing Se University. Seeing this video again just brings a smile to my face everytime. My favorite song in Metroid prime history and this room looking as it does now just makes me so hopeful and joyful. Please do more
I wonder if this will be what the prime trilogy hd will look like. You know they're going to do it when they announce Metroid prime 4 is to get everyone hyped up for it. I just hope it doesn't become the next Duke nukem forever cuz we know nothing about it except day was going to be worked on by bandai namco and then Nintendo move d it over to retro. Also has something to do with why the hunters from Metroid prime hunters.
This blew me away. That specific room is my most powerful nostalgia memory of that game. That room is the room when I realized Metroid Prime was gonna be a fucking incredible experience.
This still looks better than the remaster but the remaster looks amazing for a switch game. Guess Retro saw your footage and thought… yeah we are goona use that as a template
How the f*ck did you get it this close to the original? The HUD, the movements, the camera, the lighting - wow. Did you grab some of the assets or geometry from the original game?
looks cool but game design wise it's way too complicated and needs some elements that show "pathways" otherwise the scenery overtakes the game and players will get confused in which direction to go to (simple things like light, contrasting colors, etc.) - just a design perspective. regardless this is beautiful and like another comment said before, this is how I saw it as a child. good memories.
Very true! I approached this purely as a fancy graphics project- an actual remake would need to pay much more attention to integrating gameplay into the environment. Thanks for the compliment!
