My brother & I did the same exact thing Quest & his cousin did. But we went to the Rite-Aid on Frankford Avenue to get our cassette tapes. My brother still has many of them from the 80s ✊🏼✊🏿✊🏽

A backpack through Mexico in South America and I come back into New Orleans and I come up to Nashville 97 where I'm from and I went down Shelbyville to Kentucky to my grandmother way out in the middle of bump up but she had MTV too and man you know that you got me The Roots and jamiroquai believe that shit all that song hit in the first 30 seconds man I was into it I miss the fugees in The tribe called quest. I'm from Nashville Tennessee I'm 44 and I'm white I was fortunate enough to be raised around black kids to wear out boy I found myself I had black friends so I didn't try to talk all swinging I didn't try to say I didn't try to do that shit and I think that's why we had such a close Bond I mean they come up my grandmother would be in there watching Martha Stewart smoking a blunt with him back in the 90s and she gets munchies and she cooked everybody's food I'de be there sleeping they called her granny but now everybody's either dead or in prison

Great story I can relate with. The track he is referencing is "The Party's Gettin Rough" Same drum track as the Beastie Groove. I believe Rick Rubin aka DJ Double R may have performed the Scratching or it may have been DJ Jazzy Jay, or Dr Dre of Yo MTV Raps. Still a mystery and my favorite Beastie Boys record to this day. Salute to Quest Love for sharing his story.

I thought you were crazy, so I had to look up, the partys getting rough. so here's thr story. I spent 20 years easily trying to find the beastie groove because I loved it as a kid. I grew up, just as ?uestlove, in philly and I listened to the very same street beat with lady b which he is referencing. I have the very tape in my attic. the reason for the confusion, the played track on street beat mashed the 2 tracks giving the impression that snip was on beastie groove. I spent 20 years trying to find the reference to berzootie anywhere on the internet related to beastie groove. the only to find, is that tape in the attic because as you said, the skit was on a different track. not to us philly boys that listened to that street beat tho.

@@roberthandzus4066 Salute brother!! I am very fortunate to have that record in my Collection. I have to record it and transfer it digitally and upload it to my channel. I may even create an edit of those tracks. And yes, it's a very obscure and mysterious record from the Beastie Boys by far. It was pulled very quickly due to their unauthorized use of Back In Black by AC DC for the track called Rock Hard. They also cut up the first guitar note in "The Partys Gettin Rough" throughout the track along with samples from Led Zeppelin and a few others that sound like Jimi Hendrix. Again, not sure who actually did the cuts, although Rick Rubin was their first show DJ, its unclear if he actually had done those cuts or had someone else do them. Possibly Jazzy Jay, or someone else. Who knows,,I would love to know the back story of that EP in depth. Salute once again!

I honestly think 3rd Bass is wack. Called them out for leaving Def Jam - 3rd Base beefed with the Beasties when they joined Def Jam after the Beastie Boys jumped to Capitol. Then they immediately faded into one-hit wonder obscurity (and even their one "hit" just piggy-backed on Vanilla Ice's infamy).

3rd Bass tried to call out Beastie Boys, I forgot what they said, but MCA shut them down hard on the song Professor Booty. MCA’s whole verse was about 3rd Bass and it was glorious. He called them out but never mentioned them by name. He pointed out that MC Serch would dance in his videos like Janet Jackson. Saying 3rd Bass was just biting Beastie Boys and then calling them out for it. It was a great verse. “So many wack emcees, you get the TV bozak Ain't even gonna call out your names 'cause you're so wack, And one big oaf, who's faker than plastic, A dictionary definition of the word spastic You should have never started something that you couldn't finish 'Cause writin' rhymes to me is like Popeye to spinach I'm bad ass, move ya' fat ass, 'cause you're wack, son Dancing around like you think you're Janet Jackson Thought you could walk on me to get some ground to walk on I'll put the rug out under your ass as I talk on I'll take you out like a sniper on a roof Like an emcee at The Fever in the DJ booth With your headphones strapped, you're rockin' rewind/pause Tryin' to figure out what you can do to go for yours But like a pencil to a paper, I got more to come One after another, you can all get some So you better take your time, and meditate on your rhyme 'Cause your shit'll be stinkin' when I go for mine And that's right, y'all, don't get uptight, y'all You can't say shit because you're biting what I write, y'all And that's wrong, y'all, over the long haul You can't cut the mustard when you're fronting it all” But still, even tho 3rd Bass were fronting on a few levels, their album ‘ The cactus album’ had a few songs that were ok. It had a few good moments, but they never came anywhere close to the innovation and dope-ness of Beastie Boys.
