i think what makes him levels above his peers, is that he's an adaptability freak, along the course of the fight he keeps on evolving and adapting to his opponent's changements, so he never let his opponent take the uper hand on him for long, he will figure out what he's thinking and use it against him, he's just that high iq in fighting.
Actually, Islam used Dustin's preparation to submit him. Every time Dustin defended takedown, he pushed Islam and donkey kicked out of it. This time Islam sunk himself before Dustin could push him. And that threw him off before the twist the twist of the ankle.

The way Islam chases the takedown is just unreal, stands up with the leg into a high single, then goes into a sweeping ankle pick and chases for top position straight into the darce.
