Same, first time to hear this one in a few months and I almost feel high just soaking in it. Nothing like the MM experience. Found them when my ex wife and i were first starting to drift apart.. even though the ship sank, we knew we cant let go... prolonging the pain really. Closest band to affect me like this band would be Cursive, The Ugly Organ and earlier. Got a little too Poppy after that.

@@kylescott8522 Well, it's an old phenomenon that bands can never get it right and parts of the fandom will always complain about the newer stuff they put out. I get it if there's that feeling a band is desperately trying to become palatable to the masses. But I don't think that's the case with Modest Mouse, although I get that if they don't ever play older songs live that can be disappointing. Anyway, I like the older as well as the newer albums, and we all need to accept bands will get tired of playing in the exact same style over and over, so their sound can't be frozen in time and will change, just like the people in the bands do. Their older work is still here for you to enjoy.

@athadrianorder1847
@athadrianorder1847 5 лет назад
Agreed; that line alone makes this song.. It's incredible how powerful that little lyrical snippet is alone. It's a real shame that most people don't think or feel deeply enough to appreciate this music, with all the trashy pop music out there soaring to huge commercial success. It's that contemplative, reflective, melancholic, dreamy, abstract, nostalgic part of the soul that Isaac's early, melodic, experimental stuff embodies to perfection.. Music for the philosophical connoisseur. 😎

I was 15, now I'm 18 (not quite the same time difference), but the first time I truly got to chill out with my long distance girlfriend in person is what this song reminds me of. My best friend passed away a few months ago as well. So, it's been kind of weird, a little lonely, and this song brings a sensation of looking at how significant my experiences have been, almost connecting the dots. The "we're in this together" sort of feel of the song kind of makes me understand myself a bit better.

Reading through these lyrics in reflection to a a very dark time in my life a year or so ago... I had posted this song on my IG post with no conscious awareness of How this song was speaking my reality loudly. the sad sad irony to why I cried for two hours that day with no understanding to why (at that time)... the trauma in my body was clearly trying to tell my mind something that day.. I was in complete denial of the emotional and psychological abuse I had endured.

I think that's just called growing up. The music that got you through shit 5 years ago won't hit the same and may even be straight up uncomfortable to listen to. 5 years from now, the music that's getting you through present shit may have the same effect. Different bands have certain messages that can become more or less relatable as you grow. There's nothing wrong with reminiscence of childhood songs, but we're all getting too old to be crying to the same songs we were when we were teenagers

The whole album is Amazing. I was fortunate enough to see them on the one tour they did together in Austin. Fxxkin far out man. They encor-Ished w/Styrofoam Boots/It’s all Nice on Ice. So great. It’s the only time I’ve heard that track live. I’ve seen Modest Mouse over 30 times.
