Thanks for watching! If you want to skip forward to the in-pose tutorial, check out the CONTENTs links in the description. Have questions or suggestions for next video? Please let me know... - Lucas
Lucas, thanks for the great video. I don't know if you know, but you can add the contents as chapters in your video so that people can see the parts of the video as they go along. I think you just need to add an extra line to your description, which has a start time of 00:00 (for example: 00:00 introduction) and save it. That will then add your contents to the red timeline bar to save people going in to the description. I don't make videos, but I think that's how it's done anyway! Hope this helps. I'm off to breathe heavily!
Thanks for this lesson, really great. Question - if you do the breathing without the ocean sound is it not as effective then in activating the PNS? TIA. Tammy
@@YOGABODY.Official Yes, I know, I was just saying that if you add a 00:00 position in your description entry, then it will automatically create a timeline for you so that others don't have to go to the description box. Hope this makes sense! If you copy this in place of your Contents in your description: CONTENTS 00:00 Introduction 00:32 Yoga without Breathing is Not Interesting 00:48 Nose is for Breathing / Mouth is for Eating 01:18 Parasympathetic Response 01:34 Nose Filter / Humidifier 02:40 Volume of Breathing 03:52 Ujjayi Breathing / Ocean Breathing 06:41 Yoga Breathing in a Pose
i've been practicing yoga consistently for over a year now, and have been practicing breathwork daily for around 6 months and it wasn't until this video that i am finally able to comprehend ujjayi breathing. wow, thank you so much!
Thank you so much for this video. I don’t take yoga but I have been trying to exercise more and what I found out is that I am breathing wrong and tend to get dizzy and nauseated. I am also taking swimming lessons and the instructor is trying to teach me to breath out of my nose. I will continue to do your breathing exercises and look to take your yoga lessons. Thank you angina.
Thanks to you. You are a great teacher. Follow up question …verify : breathe In nose and out nose which is Yoga breathing And in the science of stretching / breathing is in thru the nose and out through the mouth. ??
Hello Refat - we say nose is for breathing, mouth is for eating with the exception being certain forms of exercises, deep stretching(nose:mouth), Zone 3 and above exercise (mouth:mouth). Keep going!
So true your comment, i love it. Without breathing slowly consciously through the nose, this is no longer yoga but fitness. I would add also mindfulness makes one's yoga practice what it actually is. I would call it now "movement meditation". My yoga teacher insisted a lot on the attitude... and had no indulgence on that aspect. In her words.. no need to do challenging asanas... The simplest posture in the right spirit reveals: treasures. It took time for me to be interested by that aspect... That i am discovering now. Acrobatic is no longer the thing for my old body anyway....
Hey Lucas, thank you for your interesting and informative videos. I would like to hear your opinion on my view of the topic. I never understood why I have to „control“ my breath. Even with your very detailed and good explanation. In classical Hatha Yoga, where I come from, Yoga is a practice of awareness. Learning how your body responds in challenging situations, exhausting poses and relaxed poses. The breath becomes deeper, because the muscles need more oxygen, or it becomes very shallow in a state of meditation, because the body needs very little energy and oxygen in this state. Am I stopping the breath because of tension, or can I let it flow freely even in tensed poses. This is important to follow. To trust in your own rhythm and to see how perfectly this system works and to discover your patterns of tension. For me Yoga is a practice to learn to know myself, my physical and mental state, not a practice of controlling and manipulating myself. I know many Yoga teachers are constantly using Ujjayi and sometimes there students coming to my yoga classes breathing like this. It is very hard to get them back to natural breathing. They learned to constantly control themselves and not to let go. I use Ujjayi pranayama as a pranayama technic to control Prana (ayama means to control) inbetween the asanas or before meditation. I would be very happy about your feedback. Thank you!
hey wonderful instruction thank you! I was wondering about Ocean breathing and how it sounds similar to whispering. I know that whispering not good for the vocal chords. Is ocean breathing safe for the vocal chords ? Does it function differently to whispering even though they sound similar? Thanks for all your advice too, and you are a wonderful teacher, cheers
Thank you for your kind words! Ocean breathing, also known as Ujjayi breath, is safe for the vocal cords when done correctly. It involves a slight constriction at the back of the throat, creating a gentle sound like ocean waves. Unlike whispering, which can strain the vocal cords, Ujjayi breath supports relaxation and mindfulness during practice. - YOGABODY Team
