Hi Lavnya, Excellent video and summarizing the NHS titles. From your experience and clinical encounter, are there many international medical graduates who have completed their training with MRCP / FRCP in home country, then started working in internal medicine in UK? What position would they be holding? I would assume most of them would join as SAS level doctor?
It depends on the clinical experience. If you have 2-3 years clinical experience in internal medicine and have completed MRCP - you can normally start at a registrar level post. SAS doctors normally have more than 4 years of clinical experience in that specialty.
Hi , would you please tell me the pathway to become a neurologist in the UK ? How many years of medicine core training would I need ? And how long is the specialty training in neurology ? Overall , how long is the training pathway ?
It is 7 years in total after FY2. After fy2 apply for internal medicine training IMT (3 years). After IMT, apply for higher specialty training in neurology. (4 years)
Lavnya Balenderan Thankyou soo much ! This is of great help ! Could you also please tell me , how many leaves can be taken by junior grade doctors per year ?
@@sharvarimahajan1674 Normally 27 days per year annual leave plus 8 public holidays. Do note that you can't take all the leave days together, needs to be spread out.
Hi, I really like your videos, Keep it up. I have a question plz, from your video I understand that FY1 and FY2 are equal to internship, CMT 1 and CMT 2 are equal to residency and ST3-ST7 are equal to a fellowship in other countries, right?
@@lavnya70 Thank You for your reply. I have another question plz, If I finished my CMT/IMT what is the title of the certification that they will give me ?
is it true that the core medical training is divided into two pathway : Acute and non Acute? Non Acute is only for two years and it is only for particular specialities e.g dermatology ?
Thank you so much doctor Very helpful videos If I'm international graduate and had MRCP and Arab board 40 years old had 5 years internal medicine experience.. Could I go to ST4 or ST5 OR obligatory ST3 in training program CRS CP program?? Thanks a lot
Im an IMG but my degree is MD not MBBS ( I guess u know the difference tho )...I am already a GP in my country , do u know what title would be used for me if I imigrate to the UK ? do I need to start from the FY1 ?

After MBBS, internship and PLAB, apply for FY2 jobs in UK. After FY2 (1 year), apply for internal medicine training (IMT) (2-3 years). During IMT, take MRCP. After IMT and MRCP, apply for higher specialty training in haematology (4-5 years). Hi , another great video as usual . Just an extra bit of info if possible , senior clinical fellow in acute medicine , does it mean registrar ?? I am an overseas doctor and expecting an interview in such a post , I finished my MRCP and acute medicine sce but never worked in UK , thanks .

So do we hv to search for a fy2 job or select a university and apply for fy2 to be pursued there ? how long/ until which grade will I have to pay tuition fee ?

Hi Lavnya, would the UKMLA in 2023 increase competition or decrease chances for IMGs to get a job in UK, since all medical students in UK have to take that exam from 2023?
Suppose if I don't wanna pursue post graduation in any field.. And if I just want to work as a normal SHO my whole life in UK after plab... Is it possible?
Thank you for such a nice and clear explanation. Will u plz help me getting answer to some of my questions. Can a overseas doctor completing mrcs expect to get a CT post without having much clinical experience. Or need to join at FY2. And will they get Tier 2 visa.
@@lavnya70 yes I'm planning to enter into core surgerical training after mrcs. What type job I can apply after mrcs exam? And when I can enter into core surgical training if I have one year clinical experience in my country.
Yes, for example- you need to do core surgical training, before pursuing higher surgical training eg vascular surgery, plastic surgery, ent, general surgery etc.
Hello 👋 as always so informative video thank you 😊🙏🏻 I have a few questions : 1. what’s the difference between Ct1 and ST1 ? 2. if I want to become a cardiac surgeon or cardio thoracic surgeon how many years would it take after fy1 and fy2? 3. what’s the highest speciality post for a cardiac surgeon in uk? Thank you again 🙏🏻💜
1. Some specilaties use the term ST, some use CT 2. After FY2 (1 year), apply for cardiothoacic specialty training (8 years). You will become a consultant after that. 3. Cardiothoracic surgical consultant.
@@lavnya70 thank you so much for answering 💜 also btw does that mean I don't have to do general surgery? I can straight away apply for cardio thoracic?
Say hypothetically !! If I pass my plab 1&2 and complete my speciality training but iam not able to pass my royal clg exams .. will I be able to continue to work as a doctor ?
hi Lavanya..! your video was very useful. I am about to complete my last step of MRCPCH. I have 3 years of Post DCH experience. what post I can get in UK? I am from Mumbai, India. Thank you in advance
If you have completed MRCPCH and have 2-3 years paediatric clinical experince, you will most likely be a registrar. But it will also depend on your CV, clinical skills and experience.
Could I please have your email address? I need to ask you something about the MRCP route, couldn't find the answer in the MRCP videos. Will be grateful for any guidance. Thank you!
Hi mam, I have completed mbbs , with 1 year work experience.. can I apply for mrcp part 1 ? Will they ask experience certificate ? Or just MBBS degree is fine.
Madam an indian student can write mrcp and can directly can do speciality training related to surgery field is it's true mam or plab exam to enter in surgery field can u pls pls clarify my doubt madam
PLAB or MRCS would be a better option. PLAB will be best if you are newly qualified doctor. MRCS will be best if you are a senior doctor with 1-2 years of surgical experience. MRCP is not needed for the surgical specialties. MRCP is only necessary to enter the higher medical specialties like gastroenterology, dermatology, cardiology, neurology, renal medicine, respiratory etc.
@@lavnya70 Thank you so much ❤️ Could you please explain the difference in pay between Academic doctor and Clinical doctor? Also advantages and disadvantages. Thanks in Advance 🙏
I didn't understand about SAS doctors category... pls explain to me properly.... how they are different from consultant doctors????? Pls exlain me about their course
@@lavnya70 but SAS doctors are also doing st3-st7.... they why they didn't the same privileges like consultants.... is there training period different???? 🙄
@@Samayga SAS doctors have not completed a UK training programme (they might have done training in another coutnry). If they want to become a consultant in UK, they need to do the UK training programme or join the specialist register via the CESR route.
my question is after u clear ur mrcp or mrcem in another country and graduate wht is the level one will be appointed in uk if they want to work there ??
It will depend on your clinical experience. If you have good years of clinical experience, you can aim to apply for registrar level jobs after clearing the exams.
Hello doctor thank you for the information. My query is That my grades are a bit lower How hard would it be for me to be selected for an FY1 or FY2 post ? Thanks in advance.
@@mahendharsrisailam1214 I don't think grades in medical school matter. The selection for doctors jobs is mainly based on your CV/portfolio and interview performance.
@@lavnya70 I watched it, but still need another video about real working hours in detail, and an example of a doctor's week in the UK, it will be helpful. Thanks dear
Love your videos Lavnya! Really appreciate it. :) 1 quick question: As an Indian MD (Gyne) with 8 yrs of post MD experience, I've recently completed my MRCOG. Which Grade do you think should I apply for in UK? Thanks :)
@@ravishshah2565 To work in the UK, you need to obtain GMC registration. Do check out this video- How to apply for GMC registration - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-6dBcaV9_c8E.html
@@lavnya70 ok mam. Now I understand that After PLAB apply for FY2 jobs in UK. Then after 1 year(FY2) we can apply for 3 year GP training. Mam please correct me if I am wrong. Thanku mam ❤❤
@@lavnya70 I'm sorry for asking too many questions😔 yes i know this. for example, if we finish all the stages, we can apply for constultant. after which stage we can apply for specialist?
Lavanya, so basically we should do MRCP before entering into st3. What if the first attempt gets failed ? Should we wait for a year for the next attempt, and if thats the case should we keep working in ct2?
If you don't succeed in the first attempt, you can apply in the next intake. If you have completed internal medicine training and MRCP, you can apply for non-training medical registrar level post while you wait for the next round of applications. Use that time to strengthen you CV/portfolio.

MRCP is not needed for psychiatry. MRCP is only for the medical specialties like derm, resp, cardio, gastro etc. To be ST3 in psychiatry, you need 2 years of psychiatry experience and MRCPsych.
