Neils hair for a start. in the UK one, his hair is short and gelled up. Trendy to the time it was in because Neil was cool. In the US one, he has stupid long hair that makes him stick out so badly. Neil is an idiot, but he is a social genius. he knows what people like, that's how he is always the one to get off with the girls.
@@deadaccount5 Ignoring what these other guys are saying, the problem isn’t that he has long hair, it’s that he isn’t conscious of his appearance, and his terrible haircut is just the glaring example of that
I've watched it all. The episode they go to a houseparty with children (I think it supposed to be the kids disco rip off) is grotesque. Jay is pretty much trying to get into a 13 year old. Possibly only 12. Young enough that she panics as she has her first period. Its proper weird.
It's a shame that the best actor out of it is one of the youngest, presumably the most inexperienced cast member does the best job The worst part is, who the fuck would hire him when he has the American Inbetweeners on his resume?
Biggest thing I notice, aside from the golden hour shots, is that everyone in the US version looks straight out of makeup, where as the UK version everyone is very pale and the weather is always bleak. Makes the show seem much more genuine and relatable
No, it’s like that to give it a more realistic feel. In the U.K. the days are usually gloomy, and so it gives it more of a realistic tone and feel and makes it feel less like a show and more of a real life action. In the US, it’s dramatised ALL the time, and even in the US it is not bright 24/7
Hey I've not seen Simon's Brother of the US version and actually his cruel joke about American Jay is the funniest one liner I've seen from the American Inbetweeners.
It's pretty crazy how they were able to take jokes & whole scenes from one of the funniest shows ever & somehow present them in a way that they're completely void of humor.
The US Inbetweeners is like watching a disabled person with special needs cosplay as Clint Eastwood. You literally grimace and tense your back watching it.
Couldn’t finish the first season of the US one. But can confirm I have watched the entire series of the UK one enough times to go line for line in some scenes just to piss the missis off.
If we keep watching these does Lumbardi have to keep watching the show? I sort of want to see how much of a toll it takes on him trying to get through the whole series...
The thing about the US office is that it kind of became it's own show, separate from the British one instead of trying to cling onto the same jokes which I respect it for
Wait until you watch the Red Bull episode, the school opens a library that is sponsored by Red Bull and has massive logos and advertising in your face for half the episode
Yeah , I think Ricky's vision of David brent was to portray a man who sees the blue in a cloudy sky. I think the US version turned that OTT . Normally when they do that it sucks, but I think they pulled it off.
To be frank with you, I didn't even have to watch a single episode to know the US version would be sh**. It is obvious the US version would be absolutely crap. The US do not have a good track record of making good comedies and an even worse track record of trying to make copies of British comedies/series.
@@KissMyFatAxe you have got that right. I only saw one of those and i would rather have spent the night sh***ing through the eye of a needle (and I have done that in the past and it wasn't fun)
honestly i think the films were great and a perfect way to wrap up the series. most movies of tv shows always come out bad but the writers actually smashed it with the movies, especially the first one.
As an American and huge UK Inbetweener fan the US version is an absolute disgrace. They actor they cast for Jay is the most unlikeable person I have seen
I'm American but saw ads for The Inbetweeners on BBC America and thought it looked really funny. Show was even better than I thought. I cannot believe how unlikeable the characters in the U.S. reboot are and it gave me an even greater appreciation of the original
God damnit this show made me laugh once, when Simon screams what after jay says Are you really gonna not try and make this my fault but that’s just because that’s what everyone thinks when watching the show
This is fucking tragic. The American version of Shameless was actually decent I thought, in contrast to this. Fair play to you for struggling through this mate. I'd rather have pancreatic cancer than watch a full episode of this shit.
Expat Brit who has lived in the US for over a decade - this is the same shit I see every time a UK show is converted for a US audience. UK comedy stems from highlighting the insecurities that sit within all of us, which is what makes even the ugliest characters (e.g. Jay) endearing and relatable. Generally, broad US tv comedy tends to be incredibly scared of making their characters fallible, and that screws up the entire point. There are exceptions, Community (though not an adaptation) was a great example of US writers writing broken individuals who are forced to reckon with their own flaws, which is why that entire cast and show is so memorable and appealing. But more often than not, especially when adapting from foreign sources, it feels like they convert all the characters into “whacky” versions of their surface characteristics in favour of actually distilling the groundings of the character (how they handled Jay here being a prime example). Will and Simon suddenly have to be something generic and middlingly attractive that audiences can imprint on (instead of being a socially inept narc and a hormone induced letch respectively), Neil becomes an unpredictable goof instead of being... well... just your mate who’s fun but a little bit simple. And Jay (most criminally) loses all agency and intrigue from being the foremost insecure member of the party who tries desperately to convince the world that he is the universe’s greatest human being who ever existed, to instead become... I guess... some dude who occasionally says gross shit?! It’s like they took all the character’s behaviourally defensive behaviours, and used those as the definitions of their core personality. It doesn’t work, but it seems to happen EVERY fucking time!
@@omarbaba9892 fair point. I like the American Office, and mostly agree, except that first season didn’t work as well because the episodes that aped the original scripts fell into a similar trap. They did however make that basketball episode in the first season that was truly original, written well for their original takes on the characters, and stands out above the rest. When they gave up on trying to copy the Brits and made the show their own, they came up with something actually great!
They did try it once, but it didn’t get past the pilot stage. They renamed it “Sunday Night Dinner,” which is redundant in itself because the original was supposed to be celebrating Shabbat which would be on a Friday usually.
