Brother, once you go down this rabbit hole, you'll never want to come out. Non-radio country is the best music scene in the world today. It's where all the great art is happening, not the manufactured music played on the radio. I saw Tyler and Sturgill Simpson this past February in Birmingham, Alabama with 17K other people, yet we can't hear any of these songs on modern "country" radio. Going to these shows, you'll see punk rockers, metalheads, and cowboys. It's very fucking unique. There hasn't been a scene like this since the Seattle bands exploded in the 90's, where the artists and fans are in it for the actual music, not laser light shows and backup dancers.

Oh 100%, I've got another one from Tyler dropping this week on Tuesday... Also, I took a look at Colter Wall - that's live now. Sturgill Simpson is on my list for next week and I need to get around to John Moreland, too. Way too much to look at, but I don't want to break the authenticity and listen to them off camera. However - I am tempted. As soon as this situation is over, I'm straight over to the US to get as many of these kinda shows in as possible. The combination of a unique voice and a unique writing style is super special. Glad to be witnessing it.

I'm a metalhead but I love me some Tyler Childers, Benjamin Tod/ Lost Dog street band, and Colter Wall and John Moreland. I've always hated country until I discovered these guys. It's because they make authentic music that comes from their souls and that speaks to everyone regardless of genre.

I would like to tell you, incase you are unaware. Tyler Childers is from Kentucky, really close to West Virginia. That states has a very large opioid and poverty issue. A lot of his songs are about those types of issues

Exactly...I’m from WV and trust me, Eastern Kentucky and the WV coal fields are the same people. It’s improving thank God but there was a time not long ago when pain pills were handed out by the doctors and pharmacist (and ultimately the BIG drug companies) by the millions in towns with population less than 1000. This song hits home very very hard to people like me who have survived it.

You can see the pain in his eyes and you can hear it in his tone. Tyler is one of a kind. If you ever get to see him live, do it. He stares into the crowd with the most penetrating expressions when he plays.

The 94 Club yeah man he’s serious. Also, if you like Tyler, try out some Sturgill Simpson. They’re touring together and Sturgill produced Tyler’s latest album. Sturgill started very country and has transformed into what I call techno-country.

The 94 Club just depends on what you want to try out. “Mercury in Retrograde” or “Remember to Breathe” are good techno-country songs and “Life Ain’t Fair and the World is Mean” or “Turtles all the Way Down” are two good country songs. Anything really by Sturgill is good though. You won’t be disappointed. Once you get a little more into the rabbit hole, Marcus King has some southern blues soul like nobody around today and Billy Strings straight up shreds with a metal-based bluegrass musical theory.

I live in West Virginia, just a couple hours away from Pikeville, where Tyler's from. I first heard him when I just happened to be at a bar where he was performing. I have been hooked ever since. And it's even better to see him make it big when he is such a good guy ❤️

Cheers Dave. I’m trying to stay relatively broad so I can take in different kinds of country. I’m looking at two uploads per week from this sub-genre (I’m thinking one Tyler track a week). Two requests from the channel per week, two new releases and one mainstream. How does that sound?

@@OliWilford Sorry, I wasn't clear. Broad is good, and sure, there's good stuff to be found from mainstream artists as well. Just happy to see some non-mainstream music included. I'm not sure I'd even put all the guys I mentioned in the same sub-genre as Tyler Childers. Jason Isbell has probably had the most success, but not quite mainstream. Sturgill Simpson is impossible to classify (country, bluegrass, rock, blues, ?), and Moreland is just one of the best songwriters working today, and can sing and play too.

The 94 Club yeah man. When you hear his voice you’ll be like wtf! Completely different from TC, but just as amazing. The only other artist I can think of who has a voice that makes your jaw hang is Sierra Ferrell. Review Rosemary by her and you will be like how does that little thing make that sound come out of her?

You, young man understand the full weight of this song. I'm surprised to be honest. The older you get the fewer real friends you realize you have. And I'd happily call you a friend just based on this video alone. You've found a new subscriber. I truly wish you luck in whatever you decide to pursue. Sir one thing that you are not getting about this song is PROBABLY that his dad got hooked on pills himself- when he sing that his daddy "fucked up his back and couldn't work anymore" that is how a LOT of the addicts in this area got hooked. The pill pushing doctors would get folks hooked on them and just keep prescribing them more and more and when they wouldn't keep the pain away anymore they would try to get stuff like fentanyl, meth or heroin. His dad probably burnt down a fair few bridges and he probably caused wounds that time couldnt heal.

Just the channel I’ve been searching for. You can never go wrong with Tyler Childers. Some other artist you should check out are koe Wetzel and Cody jinks. It’s awesome to see somebody enjoy raw and pure music.

Being from Southeast Kentucky, I can tell you this is 150% RAW and REAL. Coming from 3 generations of coal miners from Leslie, Perry, and Harlan Counties, here's how I take the meaning: So basically his dad was a miner, and more than likely the mine caved in with him in it, crushed his back and is now going to a pain clinic and taking percocet to just be able to get out of bed. Hes also burned bridges in the family and his addiction is ripping his family apart. Hes telling Tyler to stay focused and dont follow his path with percocet addiction, but it's too late. He is battling his own demons and he cant find work ( basically feels hopeless ) His other song Hard Times kinda ties in with this.....or at least that's my opinion.

You should look into "the highway men". Townes van zandt, Guy clark, Richard Dobson, steve earle, etc. Theres videos recorded in the 1970's around Christmas time that are incredible.....

You should listen to ‘I Know These Hills’ by Sarah Beck, featured in the miniseries Hatfields & McCoys. Hmph. Each war has its own smell you know? The American Civil war weren’t as horrific as The World Wars, but there was something particularly vicious about it. Dry... Metallic... Gunpowder residue. And the North American frontier was a damned nightmare... The song, I think, speaks for the bloodshed and the ghosts of that era.

Jesus teaches forgiveness and we should never judge someone or carry our anger with us. But I think what he means with his "...time alone can not heal" line is, that you should be aware in life what you do because a litte thing can turn into something that we can't roll back. Still forgive. Forgiveness is what we need not blaming and judging for things that are far gone. Keep lord in your hear and you have nothing to fear.

This is the thing about Tyler's music. And, this is what I wanted to learn for sure. How we can interpret music individually is a beautiful thing. I think it's giving us that education that while we should forgive, there are some people out there that can find it much harder. So we have to be understanding of that for sure.

@@OliWilford I'll try! A banded Clovis is an American Indian arrowhead, made from banded, or striped, stone, in the Clovis style. Clovis refers to a type of arrowhead from a certain time, about 10-15k years ago, from the artifacts of a people first found near Clovis, New Mexico. Digging for arrowheads is something folks across the US grew up doing, the joint is lousy with them! We used to find them on my school's playground. Some areas have a ton, and a banded Clovis in great condition is basically a museum piece, and worth a LOT. The song is about some sketchy dudes who hear about a good place to dig, find one that is MONEY and what happens from there. It ain't good, lol!
