This video contains product placement on behalf of Giant. Jack, Mathew and videographer Felix set out on a chilly winter journey to the smallest bothy* in the UK. Will they make it before nightfall and survive the blistering cold temperatures of South Wales? You'll have to watch to find out.
*Just in case you don't know, a bothy is a solid but basic shelter found in remote parts of the UK that weary travellers can use for free.

The diaries series stands proud as far-and-away the best regular bike content on RU-vid. The variety makes it, and the 15-20min length is spot on (with the occasional longer special). Don't ever stop. Good to see Jack staying true to the sign-off even in the absence of Joe.

Great vlog ,chaps. Aren't they great those Giant ebikes. When my riding buddy turned 80, his boys got him a Giant Ebike identical to Yours. in the last year he has done more miles on it than I have done in my car. As I write, he is leading the peliton around Mt Taranaki, here in NZ

Richard Bailey 30 ish miles mostly the canal which is easy going, only climbing really the last bit, I’d assume no charges needed.

But should all bikes have a kickstand 😜 I do think it’s a good idea with a pannier. I’ve heard of people putting their front wheel in a bike rack, the pannier tips the back over and the weight tacos the front wheel. Haha you should have asked what’s more controversial, ebikes or kickstands?

This is not bikepacking, guys. Once you have panniers and no drop bars, it's just plain old bicycle touring. And in case this wasn't obvious: you're young and fit. You don't need (or should want) e-bikes. It saves you the trouble of worrying about charging batteries.

I have to ask, when I watch videos made in Brittain it always seems a relaxed start in the daylight, followed by slight anxiety to reach a destination before dark. What times are you guys starting and finishing? I normally start my rides around 5am.

When did you do this? You must have had the only sunny day South Wales has seen this side of September last year! A couple of friends visited that bothy on road bikes in October. They used a slightly stronger word than 'spicy' for the descent!

I have the giant quick e which same as the explore but with fixed fork. These bikes are HEAVY 25kgs-ish which fine for roads but a pain if trying to service with taking wheel off etc. Also you are married to the grips as the power selector is also the clamp for left grip and have a specific notch in grips to take the power selector clamp. Giant cheaped out with cassette (suntour) and non branded chain ring. Saying that though I’ve had for circa 10months and done around 700kms of riding without complaint though and are great for commuting with your work clothes in panniers if you live and work in a hilly area.
