Hello everyone!
Modak is a traditional Maharashtrian sweet, most often associated with Lord Ganesh and eaten on festive occasions such as Ganesh Chaturthi and Angaraki Chaturthi. The sweet filling inside the modak consists of freshly grated coconut, jaggery and cardamom powder which is stuffed inside a soft outer layer made out of rice flour (तांदळाचे पीठ). While modaks are prepared in two way - steamed or fried - the steamed version (उकडीचे मोदक) is more common. On special occasions like Angaraki Chaturthi, dozens of people work all around the day to produce modaks on a large quantity. Join me to get a glimpse of the Alaknanda Sales Shop in Thane, where steamed modaks (उकडीचे मोदक) are produced on an enormous scale.
Check out this video to get a glimpse of how modaks are produced on a large scale during important occasions such as the recent Angaraki Chaturthi on April 19th!
