Indeed! And you will find that same courage in most Eastern European countries, where people would also have the same strength of defiance and courage as the Ukrainians. These kinds of attitudes develop when you live with a constantly threatening, hostile giant at your doorstep... Familiar for me having grown up in Poland. Even though I have not personally lived through an invasion, the threat of Russia invading is so deeply embedded in any Eastern European's psyche, that while heartbreaking, the scenes of invasion and citizens mobilising to defend their country seem oddly familiar. I don't know if this is still the case now, but about 18 years ago in secondary schools in Poland, as part of citizenship lessons we were all taught things like how to respond to air raid sirens, as well as how to arm and throw grenades at tanks. ...it wasn't explicitly said that it's in the case of a Russian invasion... But it was just common knowledge even amongst us teenagers, that it was in case of a Russian invasion. Most Eastern Europeans either experienced the USSR oppression, or grew up with power-hungry Putin looming and imagining the possibility of an invasion - and are therefore mentally ready to fight the invaders.

@@jokeruiner4481 russia didn't start the war because ukraine wanted to join nato. That was only a small part of it. Putin wants to regain influence and would've waged war or something similar like thay to Ukraine, whether they wanted to join nato or not

Ukrainians refused to surrender and got shot allegedly. There’s also information that they actually surrendered. It’s a small island and there’s not many people. Though similar dialogue actually happened with a Russian ship who wanted fuel from a Georgian one. Russians tried to say “let’s not get all political” but that’s impossible at this point.
