DISCLAIMER FOR GENERAL STAFF LOSSES DATA
1) These are real people with real lives and real families who love them. Don’t let the numbers sap your humanity.
2) These numbers probably aren’t accurate but they’re the best we have and we don’t need them to be accurate to be indicative of patterns of activity.
3) All losses are estimates. Losses cannot be counted with accuracy because of the conditions on the ground.
4) Both sides would see it to be of their advantage to minimize their own losses maximize the other side’s losses.
5) Neither side releases their losses but we have enough transparency from the Ukrainian side to have confidence in they are indicative.
6) Personnel losses are hard to count. If a soldier gets injured, heals up, and returns to the front line only to get injured again, is that one loss or two? Also, how to deal with losses from PMC’s or soldiers fighting with RF from occupied territories?
7) Equipment losses are hard to count. If an AA complex involves several parts and one part gets disabled, is that a loss, or a fraction of a loss? If a tank gets disabled, repaired, back into the fight, then disabled again, is that one lost tank or two?
8) All recorded losses are vulnerable to multiple reporting. We have already seen numerous cases of multiple drones in the air reporting the same loss from different angles as multiple engagements.
9) Losses are not always reported on the same day they occurred. It is frequent that drone losses are reported at least 24 hours after other terrestrial equipment losses. Certain losses may not be reported for days or weeks for military intelligence reasons.

The thing about EW systems is they need to transmit a signal. If you can find frequencies it is not covering then its the easiest thing to find on the battlefield.

Tow missiles have the advantage of being wired,therefore not susceptible to EW.A Bradley fully equipped is a monster.It's lighter than a tank so much more flexible.Slava Ukraine!good job JP!

Yes, from what I am hearing on the ground is exactly that! A good amount of Munitions has made it to the frontlines. I just don't know exactly where. I know the Avdiivka Region, Bakhmut and most of the Eastern front has been supplied with a good amount of stuff. More to come they say! But I really don't know about the Southern Front. My Unit is on the Eastern front so that is all I can talk to...

Apparently nearly all ruzzian forces are in Ukraine, small contingents in Africa and a couple other places. If china wanted to they could retake all the land ruzzia stole from them without much bother I would have thought. Unfortunately ruzzia is now a cash cow for china . Yes, they gave out a list, ammo for everything, GMLRS, Patriots, 155mm ammo, ATACMS, Bradleys, etc.

Both the AFU and the US have talked and figured out they don't want everything going Public! Which I 100% agree with! I believe that “shoot and scoot” was a thing before drones. Drones mean that you need to scoot significantly sooner. Before you could take your time setting up, fire several rounds, then you have less 2 minutes to scoot. Now you have to stop, set up, fire, then scoot all within less than 2 minutes.

Evolving tactics. In previous high intensity conflict doctrine, the greater risk was fire finder radars. Now, the greater risk is persistent observation by drones, and you are most detectable when you are moving.

I am somewhat worried about the picture of a huge number of Ukrainian soldiers and equipment gathered on one place. We saw videos of such amassments successfully targeted on the Russian side and we heard already a lot of criticism about a gathering of about 30 Ukrainian soldiers for an award ceremony and then being killed by a Russian hit.

Shoot and Scoot....a viable tactic in the pre-'cheap and widespread' UAV/drone era. Remember in the 50's to 90's the enemies rear was not 'transparent' and constantly under surveillance. Satellites provided overhead 'snapshots' many hours apart, whilst to provide quick imagery a recon aircraft had to fly a risky photo recon mission over enemy territory. So the primary means of counter-battery detection were 'sound and flash' ranging and then counter-battery AKA 'fire-finder' radars. So 'Shoot and Scoot' was a viable artillery tactic. This led to proliferation of self-propelled howitzer capable of 'burst' firing quick salvoes then relocating. In the 1990's this began to change with a proliferation of UAV's and airborne battlefield surviellance radars like 'Joint STARS'. Now in the the Russo-Ukrainian war we have seen that the battlefield has become 'transparent' thanks to widespread cheap drone surveillance. The current artillery tactic of choice can probably be described as 'Shoot and hide'. Basically the gun fires and then retires to a 'shelter' location probably within 1-2km of its firing site. Counter-battery radars still detects enemy fire missions, but 'localisation' of the firing point is carried out so rapidly by UAV's that 'scooting' for any period of more than a few minutes exposes the gun to a strike by kamikaze drones like Lancet. Andrew Perpetua is slightly wrong. 'Shoot and scoot' is still a thing, but it's the duration of the 'Scoot' and its end goal that has changed. Once a gun would shoot and scoot to a location 5-10km away and ready for another fire mission. Whilst enemy C/B fire would fall on its original firing site. Now a gun shoots and then 'scoots' to a hide/shelter less than 3km away and endeavours to conceal itself. Enemy C/B fire may fall on its firing site but it is the recon drones and kamikaze drones that arrive a few minutes later and search the area that are the major threat. The current battlefield dilemma may yet change again if EW and Counter-UAS measures begins to reduce the drone threat again of course.

Just did some numbers. Since Nov., if the stats are correct, Russia lost 150000 troops. That's about a third of the total. I use 900 losses per day average.

What is going on with YT demonitizing channels? Simple the YT "Artificial Idiot" either has not been properly trained (which is no excuse) or the system is being gamed by trolls. And there is active predjudice by YT against small Pro Ukraine "Shoot and Scoot" is used for "Counter Battery Fire" by an enmy with a radar to back track a gun in a stationary emplacement, M-777, D-30 etc. Yes, "shoot and Scoot" is less effective if a drone is being used to spot the shooting artillery, like a HIMARS. So, yes, drones in the battle field are seriously messing with traditional tactics and equipment design.

The traditional Counterbattery works by detecting the ballistical curve of grenades or mortar rounds by specialized radars, or older, using the sound of the shot to detect the position, and then cover it in grenades and rockets. So there Shoot-and-Scot has its advantages. If drones are used for visual detection, moving around is of course more dangerous.

Oh Captain, My Captain, something just occurred to me regarding the Kerch bridge while watching this video. I wonder, given the past importance to the russians so far as material transport, the Iconic value, and the sheer cost of the bridge, if Ukraine might not hit the bridge, instead making the approach to it on the russian end untenable, impossible to approach? In that way, ptuin's folly still stands but is not in any way usable to the russians. In this way, it stands as a huge F-U to the russians, but a morale boost to Ukraine. I wonder what you might think about this scenario.

There is a lot of confusion & misconceptions about camouflage particularly regarding what a drone can & can not see. We humans have paltry visible spectrum eyesight so anything that breaks up an outline makes that object hard for a human to see But the same is not true for drones , many of which work in the ultra violet or infra red spectrums so all the cammo nets will make no difference to a lot of drones. Even simple things as changing from colour to B & W can render a lot of cammo useless as the drone simply does not see it .( try that on your computer ) The drone sees forest and not forest . Then there is reflectance spectrum which is what is used to find 1 single pot plant in 10,000 acres of maize because the oils give off a different spectrum . So I can fly over looking for engine oil , or gun oil or even sun screen It seems that the russians have worked this out as the other day, I think it was you who showed a sliding roof covering a mortar position that was covered with living plants that were the same as what was around it . That would be very hard to detect particularly as once closed there were no strait lines . Strait lines is yet another method used , this time by command centre computers because in nature there are no dead strait lines and no right angle corners . When it comes to shoot & scoot you have yet another set of problems because a different type of motion sensor can be deployed and this one takes images at short intervals and compares them to see if the one is different from the next . This is the way the passive ultrasonic & IR burglar alarms work . In the old days it was simply the net voltage on a CCD which would vary according to the number of items that were there reflecting back to the sensor. Now days fast computers can compare a set of images pixel to pixel and I rather think this is what Lancettes use . And then there are magnetic anomalies so a big lump of steel sticks out like a dogs dangley bits no matter how well it is covered . Technology is moving a lot faster than human minds and even faster than military procedures
