Greetings from Croatia ! I think you would understand the Croatian language as it is very similar to Ukrainian! For example: Meso , Rezati, Ulje ,Mrkva , Kupus,Pasulj , Kartofli ili Krumpir ,Sol, Dodavati Sol ,Dodati Sol , Ja dodajem sol, Mješam ili Mješati , Šporet ,Lovorov List , Trava ,Češnjak... and many more words unrelated to cooking which are the same or very similar to the Ukrainian. I haven’t eaten Borsch yet but would really love to taste it !! :)

Dear Ratimir, Of course you can understand most of the words, as we are 2 brother nations and the languages are very similar. Some 1000 years ago, we were even neighbors (perhaps you know that Red Croatians were living somewhere in the area of the actual Zakarpattya). As Ukrainian, I'm speaking them both and I always feel like at home, when traveling to Croatia (which is pretty frequent in regular days). Wish you taste the Borscht and hope you'll love it as I love the Croatian food as well. All the best! :)

Привіт, Інна! It is always nice to learn about languages from countries that are geographically close to my own country, Finland, because I will always spot some words that also exist in my own language. In this video, I noticed the word, 'цибуля', which sounds almost the same as the Finnish word, 'sipuli'. Only the spelling is somewhat different. I checked where the Finnish word comes from, and it is said to come from Old Swedish, which in turn got it from Low German, which in turn borrowed it from Latin, where the original form was 'caepula'. Sorry to get a bit sidetracked from the topic of the video, borscht, but perhaps it is obvious that I'm a huge nerd when it comes to etymology. :)

I cooked borscht (борщ) for the first time a few days ago. It was our Thanksgiving holiday here in the USA so I made борщ in honor of all Ukrainians who are fighting and sacrificing for their independence and freedom. I thought 5 litres (!) would be too much for me, so I scaled down the ingredients. I think I got the proportions wrong for some ingredients, but still it turned out to be very tasty! And it was even better the next day, so maybe I did something right! I will definitely make it again. Thank you, Inna, for sharing with us your beautiful language and culture! 🇺🇦 Слава Україні! 🇺🇦

Унікальність борщу в тому, що кожна сім'я готує його по своєму :3. Наприклад я, і буряк смажу з чайною ложкою цукру й з щіпкою сілі

I enjoyed your lesson on making Borscht. You make it just like my Baba used to. She usually made it with chicken or beef. What cut of pork do you use? It looks like there were bones and those are usually good for flavor.

I bet it tastes even better the following day. EDIT: I made my first borscht today and I love it, though my ingredients are slightly different: arugula instead of cabbage and leeks instead of onions. And I had 4-5 leftover portabella mushrooms that I added to the fried ingredients. I also used beef neck bones, which provided a tiny amount of meat...I'll work on it!

Thanky you for the recipe... but i have a question... im still seaching for a perfect Borschtsch for myself... and i read and talked much about it... most of the people put the red beet into the pan and roast it too...why you decided to didnt do it that way too?!? and what part of the pork you used for your Borschtsch?!? PS: You are looking awesome 😍
@SpeakUkrainian
@SpeakUkrainian 3 года назад
GermanicusX Дякую! You can roast red beet together with onion, carrot and tomato paste. I usually add beet separately, because my mother always cook borscht in that way. I follow her recipe. You can use any parts of pork except salo. People say that borscht with pork’s ribs is the most delicious one.
