I was an ammo handler and UXO disposal troop in Afghanistan and Iraq. 8 tours. White phosphorous is perfectly legal to use. Its very common in multiple different types of devices. It is used to make smoke screens, generate illumination, mark targets or burn bunkers and buildings. Because it has legal uses, white phosphorus is not banned as a chemical weapon under international conventions.

I would think it would fall under 'chemical warfare', which I know is not to be used, but unaware of governing bodies legal code. Russia is a permanent member of the UNSC, and those member nations exempt themselves from international law, though it damages their reputation like PRC's non-recognition of international ruling from the Hague regarding illegal occupations and territorial claims on other nation's Law of the Sea ocean usage and traversal. Cluster mines that Russia deploys from the air are also banned, or so was my understanding at some point when I believed I understood. PoW treatment of course, so investigations and discussion with the member nations will hopefully de-escalate total war-esque breaches, wherever it is found applicable.

Maybe you should fund raise a drone to get tank footage, probably much safer than sneaking closer to tanks in the distance in smoke, IMO.

before you go filming tanks or anything like that.. you know not to point camera's near the front of a tank right? they have a sensor on those tanks that can pick up lenses pointed at them. only film them when the turret is pointed away from you. because if they look in your direction the sensor will go of, and it will highlight the lens being pointed at them like a lightbulb.

The use of white phosphorous as outlined by the UN OPCW relies on intent. As long as your intent is not to use the "chemical properties" of phosphorous munitions it isnt banned. Only way of getting hammered for this I guess would be to get caught explicity stating that you are trying to use phosphorous pentoxide to smoke someone out of a building. Its use as a marker, illumination, or screening munition is still legitimate. Phosphorous in the Geneva convention is also allowed as long as "all possible means of minimizing civilians casualties" have been taken, for example the russians can claim they tried to evacuate the city (regardless if they actually did or not) and still use it.
