So this is the ulanzi anamorphic lens review, this is a great lens for the price, especially if your looking at a anamorphic lens on a budget,
The only negatives i have regarding this lens is...
The lens could do with being a lil bit more stiff when aligning it as tends to move a lot causing some distortion in your final image, so always check that it is aligned.
Also i noticed that it could do with being a lil bit more sharper but at this price point these are minor issues,

I use Ulanzi kit for my mobile phone and GoPro, and love it, but I had no idea where their anamorphic lens landed in the price spectrum vs. competitors! Truly did a double-take! Thank you for this very informative review, and I'm looking forward to how this lens, once I receive it, will benefit the footage I upload to my channel.

I’m using ulanzi’s cage but they only make the cage for the iPhone or s10 plus atm you will need some sort of cage or rig that has a 17mm thread on it or you can just use the adapter that comes with the lens and you should be good to go 👍🏻

I just rewatched the video, I received mine today - I was expecting the knurled knob to lock down on the adaptor. I don’t think it it will move during use, but it you will need to check it before you press the shutter. I understand the need for the movement - to align the lens. I’m gathering kit for my new iPhone 11 to shoot on holiday in Sri Lanka, I picked up this, a wide, and a Tele which has all added up - Im thinking it might have been better to gone with moment - one little twist and it’s locked and forgotten about. But I’m glad, you did mention the movement, which a lot of other videos didn’t.

Thank you so much brother, this is the only solid video about ulanzi anamorphic lense on internet. Worth consider buying. It’s going to cost me just 30£ here and the moment or moon dog lense cost more then 200 due to amazone is not available in Pakistan. So I’m just feeling so lucky finding out about this. You are the best.

Do you still recommend this 1st version over the Pro version? And did you do your own test to see if this is a real 1.33 ratio like you did on the pro version which wasn’t ?

Cheers Robert no it won't work with moment case as it has a completely different mount on it, this lens has a 17mm thread and the moment cases are a bayonet style system, hope this helps 👍🏻

I used moments app for this, I didn't t really like there app to start off with when it first came out but it's got really good now , and use filmic pro for android 👍🏻

If the rhino cover has a 17mm thread on it then yes it will fit 👍🏼

Andre Campbell hi on the top or the bottom so that it is lined up properly, you will know if it’s not correctly lined up as the image will look out of proportion 👍🏼

Moment's 10$ adapter fits on this lens. This lens is 1:1 in shape with moment lens except for the 17mm thread

It’s an adapter that fits over the end of the lens so you can attach Nd filters or others filters 😁

Great channel. Love the No DSLRS. I have an iphone 11 normal. WIll the this anamorphic work or are you putting that on the telephoto of the 11 Pro? What about the 16mm Wide, And the 65mm telephoto. Ie which lens make most sense for the 11 normal that only has wide and ultra. Cheers.

Hi thanks 🙏 just use it on the main camera of your phone for best results you can also use it on the Tele lens if you want, but you can’t use it in the ultra wide lens that the iPhone 11 Pro Max has 👍🏼

cameron zero yeah there is a ulanzi phone case I’ve done a video in that you can mount lenses on it and there are also a variety of cages you can also mount to 👍🏼

Great videos Ricky! New sub here. Ulanzi just released a 52mm filter adapter for their anamorphic lens. I think it might too small and needs at least a 62mm step up ring to avoid vignetting. Your thoughts on this?

Hi ya cheers 👍🏻 I think it will be ok as all the other lenses I have and use a nd filter mounted to the end of it and have no vignetteing so I think it should be fine but there's no harm in going slightly bigger if your worried about it 👌🏻

Bought the Ulanzi Anamorphic and Cage for my iPhone Pro Max.. I assume I need to mount the lens on the far left (of three) lenses... and only use wide... then FilmPro to select the “Moondog” (as the only Hardware For anamorphic lenses) and I am getting in the frame in the far left and right side... or am I missing something???

George Rady so yeah that’s correct use the wide lens or the main camera lens, and select the moondog labs anamorphic setting, as for the framing you should have a wider and thinner image now if this isn’t the case make sure you have the anamorphic lens lined up in the correct orientation when holding your phone landscape make sure the ulanzi lens writing facing up when aligned you may have the lens lined up in the wrong orientation causing distortion, hope this helps 👍🏼

Yes, I’m getting the wider anamorphic look... I’m just trying to verify that the iPhone 11 Pro Max’s lens will be covered by the Ulanzi lens and you will have to edit out the extreme left/tight sides where the Ulanzi blocks the iPhone’s far left lens when shooting in landscape mode (as opposed to the lens on the right or bottom) when in the Ulanzi Cage.

Jhun Albert Dal have you got the lens lined up in the correct orientation? Make sure the ulanzi writing is facing up when holding the phone in landscape,

Why go to the trouble and expense of using an anamorphic lens, which can twist and warp the image, when you could use a wide-angle adapter, and crop the top and bottom for the anamorphic aspect ratio? In either situation, you’re getting the full horizontal resolution of the camera, and software is throwing away the top and bottom to give you the wide/short aspect ratio.

Can anyone tell me the difference between the 1.33x, 1.33x G3, 1.33x pro and 1.33XT. Which one is the latest or up to date lens?

1.33x was there first lens, the 1.33xt is basically the same lens but in silver then they brought out the 1.33 g3 that was a upadated version of the two previous lenes and now the pro version thats supposed to be even better I have the pro version coming this Sunday so will be doing a video on it 😀

Hi ya, you don’t have to, you could just use the native camera app but the image won’t be de-squeezed so you would have to do that in post, but apps like filmic pro, Mavis, moment etc all have the capability to de-squeeze the image for you so you then don’t have to in post. Hope this helps 👍🏼

Its too bad its not an actual 1.33 lens. If you shoot in that setting on Filmic or Moment it will look everyone look "skinnier" than they are in real life. I REALLY wanted this to work but the fact that it makes everything slightly distorted makes it a no go for me. Moment anamorphic or bust.

I already own and use the Moondog Anamorphic adapter which is excellent, especially when used on the Beastgrip Pro cage. However, I thought I would try the Ulanzi version with its dedicated case for use with iPhone 11 Pro Max, since it would be quicker to use in day to day circumstances. It certainly produces great images with edge to edge focus. However, while using Filmic Pro to unsqueeze the footage internally I noticed that circular objects were still slightly squeezed, whereas the Moondog lens was perfect. This meant that I have to make a preset in my editing software to rectify this. Obviously the Ulanzi lens is not delivering the correct aspect ratio and is over-squeezing the recorded image. No big deal, but if you don’t perform the correction, you will definitely notice everything looking still slightly elongated vertically. I’ve certainly noticed this on some RU-vid videos shot with this lens.

After reading your comment, I now notice it and I can't unsee it. I tried shooting cars with the lens on and I noticed the cars looked tall/squeezed. May I know what you did? Do you just stretch it in post? If so, how much?

Glad it wasn’t just me then! What I do is to shoot a circular object head on. In post I apply the amount of vertical adjustment to get it looking correct and then make a preset of it for future use.
