My dad took a short school bus and converted it into a camper, and as a child in the late 70's early 80's we would travel from camp site to camp site all over central Ontario during summer holidays it was the best childhood ever

GREAT video Cody!! Grew up backpacking and then in eight grade my parents got an awesome Chinook over the truck cab camper, and because every week end in the winter, plus many weeks/week ends in summer were spent camping, the camper paid for itself quickly. Especially when we would travel out of state where the cost of 2 motel rooms (parents and them me and an aunt), and eating out could quickly add up. Dad also had a custom made carriers made for on the side of the camper for skis, and a rack on top for kayaks to lay flat.

Might want to tint those rear door windows or install some curtains before you send Mrs W for a shower! Love the van, been following the whole build and it’s the best muiti-use, minimalist and functional I’ve seen yet. Really well done, well thought out. Much appreciated for those of us in the planning stages of a build. Saving lots of us a ton of time. God bless, thanks for the content!

I still think your van is the ultimate Road Trip Vehicle, I am working on getting one to deck out similar, although it will be used to pull my HI-LO 20 ft travel trailer primarily. Looking good! If you haven't already guessed your fuel mileage will drop quite a bit especially with the rack and boat up high ( wind drag) My Rubicon got 20 mpg when I first got it. After adding a storage unit inside, a Gobi rack system and a RTT it dropped to 14 mpg. It is what it is, I rack it up to COI, you cant do this kind of stuff without an additional cost, but its worth it!

Mine has the little diesel engine, I installed a dual alternator kit and ran wiring from the battery to 30A solar charge controller inputs, then charge the lithium batteries from the charge controller off the vehicle's alternator. I stop bringing a generator because the amount of fuel consumed idling the vehicle's engine is very minimal and you get to enjoy the a/c/heat from the vehicle also.

Hey Cody, I suggest you put your trauma kit some place that you can access quickly (glove box, in driver side door, etc). Someone with a severe arterial bleed can die in ~3 minutes. Every second counts. Presumably you’ll keep the rear boxes locked (further delaying your response).

You been watching those Nomad videos? The ones where retirees mostly sell it all and buy a van to live/travel in. They go camping permanently all over and migrate with the weather changes. A simple way of life on the super cheap.

Cody, as a scout and scoutmaster who has cooked many meals outside, I have to recommend not using your grill or stove on the lid of your cook box. We use chuck wagon type boxes also, like yours but larger. When you cook greasy items like steak and bacon that grease will get all over everything in the box and all over the box itself. Stove would be fine to use on the lid for pancakes, coffee pot etc but not greasy items.

Looks pretty good, I think I'd put an expandable rod with hook on the right side of the passenger side rear box where your grills are, too hang a lantern from so any bugs won't be right there in your face and you have plenty of light

I would recommend you take the gas canister out of the burner. I left it in mine, when it was full, came back to it a few weeks later and the canister was empty. It might have been my cooker wasn't very well made, of course. But it looks like you have plenty of space to take it out and keep it separate.

Ya not for everybody but I say I camp in the Colorado Mountains and have no issues and peace and quiet, except for folks with generators. I set it up with a 50 foot lead to the solar pnl , camp in the shade and never had an issue, snow included. I really like his battery set up and with a good panel or 2 , think he would be good to go. He has for his act together so I would not presume to try to suggest I know better , just thinking out loud Cheers to you

@@Worthrhetime I watch a sailing channel called Sailing Uma. They lost a solar panel in a storm, had it blow about 50 feet into another boat, hard impact. All it did was bend the aluminum frame a bit, still 100% functional! They have come a long way in even 5 years.

Camping in Wyoming last week, I learned the value of a little para cord and a steak for my solar panel , almost had the same issue:-) But I like not hulling a generator and extra gas . Been messing around with them for about the last four years and been able to set 4 of my friends up with their campers , built them a plug and play system. Sure would like to have the battery set up Cody has.

Consider adding cutlery/utensil holder to bottom of top shelf or mounting holders to the insides above the top shelf for Mrs. W. Adding the top rack to left side box would make for additional fuel container storage. Enjoy the videos!

Don’t get me wrong Honda makes good generators but I swear by Champion Power Equipment. They are just as reliable and honestly a little better built than the Honda generators that I have had.

Wranglerstar that’s actually a common misconception about Champion Power Equipment their generators are built in America. Now there are Champion generator knock offs that are made In China that’s where the notion that made in China comes from with them. Just from my personal experience any Honda generator I’ve had has be unreliable but my Champion generators have been very reliable.

The only issue I see is what if its raining? the canoe will fill with water, that will be a lot of weight up high, and could cause you to tip over. I would probably keep it deflated, or maybe it has a drain that you just leave open to let the water run out? Not sure but definitely a awesome van and I wish I could have something like that :)

My wife worked for the mail delivery in Amsterdam they would make them do everything by bicycle or by walking it's just a small place over here there was these amazing Square boxes that you could attach to your bike to organise all your mail now that she doesn't work for the company anymore either way she still has 3 of those bike boxes I like them they are huge only with two you could probably go camping this particular company wasn't very nice to her so we didn't really care about keeping the bike boxes 4 personal use😀 Cheers my brother from another mother

Cody I really think you can make a motorcycle rack on the back again. I have seen them behind a pickup with the tailgate down and your system doesn't look any longer than a tailgate. I'm sure you'll figure something out! Cool van!

Nice set up but I was wondering in the last video, "Is he putting the canoe on the roof right side up?" and indeed, you did. Lousy airfoil that way not to mention the greater possibility of wear to the bottom. Why?

storage. I moved cross country and used my canoe like a roof carrier. Covered it with a tarp, tied down nice and snug and it worked great.

I would think that your canoe is on wrong , in case it rains and for wind purposes I carry mine up-side down . And your correct, that van can handle much more weight then you have on it !

Thought about doing some kind of 4 corner jack system to level/stabilize the van? Wouldn't be hard using scissor jack's that pin into frame stands. Would give you a way to level and keep the van from moving in the wind.
