Awesome video, Mike! I'm really loving these herp highlights. You did an outstanding job with this video, it was really enjoyable. You really have a talent for captivating the audience. Also, for a video suggestion, you've got to make a video giving us an update on the podcast. If not, you could have it be the main topic of the live stream tomorrow. Great job, keep up the amazing work on the videos, I really enjoy them!

Ackie monitors have been a dream pet for me for the longest time. never had the space, money or availability of actually finding one but hopefully in the next few months I'll have the chance! its very comforting to know a 4x2x2 is adequate for them. my current plan is to build atleast a 5x2x2 wooden viv. Currently have owned a pair of leopard geckos for 10 years and a new owner to a kingsnake so i ask would a monitor, uvb and intense heat aside, be a particularly huge jump in difficulty to keep? Lovely channel you got, only found you today. All the best my man. hope to hear from you!

@@MikeTytula I currently have a bearded dragon, chinese water dragon and 2 leopard geckos. I have had anoles and snakes and frogs etc. but my DREAM is to have an ackie! Also I watched the vid of losing stella and lemme tell you I felt your hurt. It tore me to shreds especially when I saw bowser was resting his head on her ass if he was mourning her passing almost like he was saying please come back 😭 I choked up hard core! No creature deserves less recognition than any other when losing them. I get just as devastated losing a fish as I do a reptile and so on. You should probably give more of a variety in his diet (mealworms, crickets, other large insects and I think even quail eggs occasionally?) and all food except for rodents should be calcium dusted. Pinkies can be really fatty and not very nutritious so it's not good to keep them on just mice :)

@MikeTytula
@MikeTytula 5 лет назад
Care to fill me in on what was missed? Glad you enjoyed the video though :)
@projectpet7828
@projectpet7828 5 лет назад
Sure Mike! And yea I did enjoy it, watched from beginning till the end even tho I know my way around ackie keeping :) Basically ackies are really hard to overfeed if you give them the right diet. What you stated right is they are mainly insectivores. What you can do is rotate different type of insects mixing high protein/fat - insects with high fiber ones. Fiber is going pretty much to waste so that is just a stomach filler and can be offered daily mixed with crickets or cockroaches. If ackies are kept with the right conditions they are really active. As you mentioned in the video they need a hot basking spot, ambient temperature should be a bit higher than you mentioned tho. Keeping the right temperature up will make your ackies go around and about all day long and they'll burn a lot of calories. If you stay away from chicken (that doesn't mean you can't give them just make it on occasions) your ackies will never get obese. If you want to give them meaty food give them baby mouse that will offer them a wide variety of nutrition. This knowledge is mainly from my own experience I have been collected through 5 years of keeping 4 ackie monitors. Hope you found this useful! :) Oh and congrats for your red ackie, he is a beauty! :)
