Just had 4 days riding out in the Isle of Man with the lads from Monkey Dix Adventures. I was on my Super Cub, but can honestly say it was the most fun I’ve ever had on two wheels ! 37 125cc bikes, mostly Honda Monkey’s. It was like big a game of Mario Kart, I’m still grinning now 😁.

Got my '22 Monkey last year and i love it to bits! I usually go hard on the gas and absolutley wring its neck. What a joy without breaking the law. I'm even going on an alpine tour this summer. Some recommendations on luggage: rear rack (Kitaco) + rear bag, saddle bags, which are connected underneath the seat (QBAG Saddle bag 01). The exhaust doesnt even get warm, the bags can rest on it. 👍 I only have two gripes with it. One are the tires, they feel kinda potatoe-y when you lean while riding at a sporty pace. Unfortunately you cannot replace them so easily because they come in weird dimensions, where there are no alternatives (130/80-12 rear). You'd have to get a 130/70-12 where there is plenty of choice. However that will force you to recalibrate the speedo and - if you live in the EU - have a lot of legal paper work on your hands. The second gripe is the power. I know its only a 125 cc, and the power is pretty good already, but more often than not i wish that honda had put in maybe 12-13 HP? Another addition: honda gave you wrong numbers for the fuel consumption. Its not 1.5L/100 mi but rather /100 km. In reality, when you ride sporty like me, you are looking at 2.5L/100 km, which is equally amazing. Cheers

Thanks for the review - it made me smile. My Dad still has an original one of these in his garage complete with Japanese number plate. It was given as a gift from a Japanese student who lived with us back in the mid 1960's - he used it as his regular transport before returning to Japan - I believe travelling as far as Worcester to Oxford! Honda have been faithful to the original colour scheme as well as the pattern on the seat! The original was much smaller, had no suspension, and the handle bars unscrewed and folded down so it could be put in the boot of a car. I believe it is 50cc , it has no clutch, with the heel toe arrangement for the gear change.

I find it unbelievable that we get _three_ mini bikes at the 125cc range but absolutely no variety at the 300-400cc range. I wish they'd brought over the CB350/GB350 from India and Japan rather than this or the DAX, as it seems they both cover the same uses

Excellent review. My wife bought a 2023 as her first bike and is absolutely loving it. I've ridden it a bunch of times myself and have been surprised both at how much I enjoy it, and by how many people notice it and want to talk to you about it. Even people who don't ride seem to take a shine to this thing.

Thanks for the nostalgia! When I was a kid, my neighbor had one of these that I used to beg for a go on. In the US it was called the Mini Trail or the Trail 50. (HM is short for Honda Motor Company Ltd., the original logo carried that abbreviation.) Thanks again, sir.

I just picked up my 2023 red Monkey today. I got lucky. I got on the waiting list on April 1st, and on April 27th I got the call that they had a red Monkey for me.The couple that were supposed to get this one backed out, and the next person in line wanted a yellow one, and since I didn't have a color preference, I got this one. I can't wait for the weather to warm up a little and get same seat time on this little bike.

The Monkey reminds me very much of the Honda Z50 that I got for my birthday in 1979. I learned to ride on that bike, so it has a special place in my heart. I tried to talk my wife into a Monkey a couple of years ago as her first bike when she was learning to ride, alas to no avail. I’d still like to have one. Thanks for the review and for bringing back fond childhood memories 😎

Interesting tip about the bars, I'll have to try it next riding season. I'm only 6ft 1, and I have a bit of a problem with the sitting position, my knees start to hurt or get uncomfortable after 3 hours, and after a 6-hour riding day I feel like I've done something slightly wrong with my body. ;) I've been thinking of getting an adjustable rear suspension to raise the seat height a little, even half an inch could make it better.

That's a couple of the great features on this little bike it has full LEDs there's a lot of full-size Adventure bikes that are still running old incandescent and the ABS is a good touch. It looks like a grown-up Honda mini 50cc that they used to have back in the 70s and 80s. They would be cool for a little run about in town or country on the farm for burning around and having fun.

I have a 2023 banana yellow monkey. Whilst I never expected the bike to go 100mph , what I really appreciate is riding it in and around Brighton where i am based. It is nippy enough and handles the traffic like a star. The weight is so light that I feel like it can be flicked about with no effort at all. Im just shy of 6ft and 90kg and honestly the suspension and riding position is ideal. I put a little top box on the back so i could carry a decent bike lock and chain and sadly it does seem to cut into my riding position. Gave it a good razz down the a23 the other day and behind a truck I hit 70mph (downhill i guess). But on the b roads it handles a treat and has more than enough oomph. Criticisms for me were the mirror positions. I added some extension bits to them and now I can see all i need. going in for its 600 mile service next week and i am a happy man. Would I use it on a dual carriageway? well maybe for short runs, but for short range commuting and having everyone from big burly bikers through to grans give me compliments on her, I think for £4100 it was exceptional value and the smile on my face is worth every penny.

I think there's a demand for practical urban commuters, but the Monkey as well as the Dax seem a little too gimmicky to me. I'd rather go with a scooter. Anyway great show as always, thanks very much. 👍🏼😁

I've got a 22 that has been modded, makes about 11 to the rear wheel so probably about a 30% increase. One of my favorite bikes, just a different riding experience from the rest of my bikes. I have mine setup as an errand runner with top box and large windscreen. Luckily in the U.S. we get most of the models, Supercub, Trail, Monkey, Grom as well as the 110cc carbed Navi ($1,807) and supposedly we'll get the Dax as well in 2025.

Great bike to get the hubris monkey off your back! Then again, I’d balance it off by pulling into a café wearing army boots, chained up black leathers and a fat cigar stickin’ out of my gob. In a mean ‘n deep gravely voice I’d slowly ask, “Are the loo’s clean in this joint?”

I just bought the Honda monkey and I really love. It's great to go and visit friends or go fishing. There is something Honda needs to think about. I am 5ft tall and they should put a lower design seat for people of my hight. I have to tiptoe when I come to a stop sign, the other is the pipe should have just curve it around and let it hang under the motor like on the Honda rebel. I have a Honda rebel 1986 and I fit it just right with the lower seat. I took off the seat and have a lower seat straps down. If you know where I can get a lower seat that hooks on like the one that came with it please let me know.

Yes women in particular are penalised aren't they by tall bikes - so few low seat height bikes available (apart from cruisers - which tend to be heavy!)

I love the idea of these (and the Trail 125) and want one, but they're very expensive in Canada at C$6,000 -- almost the same as most 300-400cc bikes -- and they're just a bit too slow to be useful here where you really need to be able to do 100 km/h without too much trouble. I'd also be a bit concerned with the small wheels with the craters in our roads, and that it would be tempting to thieves. Still, I can't help but want one as they look like an absolute blast, and I'd have one in a heartbeat in most markets outside North America where they make a bit more sense.
@rogerp4612
@rogerp4612 Год назад
We are in Ontario, and I couldn't disagree more on the usefulness point. On suburban and country roads, this thing is in its element. The soft suspension is brilliant on our crap winter-ravaged road surfaces. And when negotiating a tight, crowded parking lot, there's simply nothing better. It's not much damned good on the highway, but a) that's obviously not what it was designed for and b) nobody has ever forced me to ride on the highway when I didn't want to.
@Thirsty_Fox
@Thirsty_Fox Год назад
@@rogerp4612 Here in Ottawa and surrounding area, a bike that struggles to do 90 km/h in optimal conditions is just too slow for a bike that costs C$6,000. Even on the country roads, traffic goes 90-100 km/h, and same with the city main roads. If you want to avoid the 400 series highways in Ottawa, it takes forever to get anywhere. If you're just going around the suburbs or in town (and not going between) then maybe it's alright but then it's really expensive and so easily stolen. Probably better off to get an e-bike for 1/4 the cost and be able to take paths and park at bike racks. I still think they'd be incredibly fun bikes, especially in places with lower speeds. The Grom is a lot cheaper and a bit faster so that's probably the one I'd get.

I bought one a couple of years ago and grin like an idiot every time I ride it. Mines a four speed version, I'm not sure why Honda changed the motor it's performance seems identical to this version. The fuel figures should be taken with a pinch of salt but there's no denying it's very economical indeed it's costs nothing to go for a ride. I often ride mine around the back roads of Derbyshire on a summer evening exploring lanes you'd normally avoid on "normal" bike. There's no downside to owning one of these, I bought mine with very low miles in mint condition and its now worth more than I paid for it. Fair review as ever Andy 😊

I have the C125 Super Cub, which has 17" wheels + Leg guards which do go a long way to keeping your legs dry on rainy days. It does have the toe/heel gear shifter, which did take a few days to get used to. However, I can now jump off my other bikes and jump on my cub without selecting the wrong gear on any of them. You just need to give it a few days, which, in your case might not have been possible. I'd now like to buy a CT125 Trail as well.

I think we're in similar position. I have the ct125 and absolutely love it. I like to buy super cub c125 because it looks and feel more comfortable on the road. But in my country, it's very hard to get all this bike (including monkey and dax) because there is waiting list for this kind of bike, Can take about 8 months-2 years 👀
@Jaffa1951
@Jaffa1951 Год назад
@@timotiusbudiadi6726 I live in the UK, and Honda don't sell the CT125 here. You have to pay for it to be imported by a specialist importer, which will add to the cost and, I found out recently that it doesn't come with a warranty because it's an import. Nevertheless, I'm still considering getting one imported or, perhaps, waiting for one of the imported ones ( and there is a few) being sold on second hand.

You’ve mentioned difficulty seeing the instrument cluster on a few bikes with negative displays in bright sunlight, and also that you typically wear sunglasses and use tinted visors. I wonder whether the combination of glasses and visor tinting, and possibly polarization, is part of the problem. I’ve noticed the same issue regarding some displays if I wear polarized lenses. It would be interesting to see what you found when wearing non-tinted glasses and a clear visor, or a tinted visor and non polarized glasses. By the way, the answer back function with the key fob could also be handy when you’ve mis-placed the Monkey in your house 😊
