I think 16:55 is the source of confusion when it comes to these verbs. There is a difference in English between when you receive and when you are given.くれる still is the act of giving, not receiving, that is why the subject is still the giver. At 46:57 you ask us to translate "Who gave it to you?" Which would translate to 誰が(あなたに)あげたの。You do translate it with だれにもらったの。But that translates to English as "From whom did you receive it?" もらう is the act of receiving, not giving. Summary: To give あげる neutral, I give, you give, she gives, they give くれる humble, I am/we are given (only when you or your family is the recipient) To receive もらう neutral, I receive, you receive, he receives, they receive いただく humble, I am/we are receiving This is still the least confusing lesson on this topic I found so far. Thank you Miku.
