A tip I received when using the scoring stylus (I have the Explorer) was to tell the machine to score several times (about two times on thin materiales and about five times on card stock). I always do that to make pillow boxes and it works!!!
Although I personally agree with the review becase I have all the tools, I still end up with Stylus in most cases, simply because I don't have to swap the tools in the middle of the project. I sometimes double the score lines if I need the lines more pronounced. Precision is not always the determining factor.
@@ItsyBitsyBuild exactly! That's the primary reason. When I score and cut multiple pieces on the large mat, I can focus on something else and leave the machine to complete the job. And I also agree that debossing tip can do great job when used as scoring tool. Perhaps perforating tool should be also included in the group. It works great on the overhead projector film because no scoring tool can make a dent in it. I cut some small favor boxes out of it and the only way to make folds is to perforate instead of score.
keep also in mind that if you fold your scored paper, by aligning the corner before pressing to make the fold, the paper will be much better align. You're not supposed to fold it just following the scoring line. You still have to fold like you would on an unscored paer, corner to corner.

You are supposed to score on the inside of the card or box and fold into the score. You folded away from the score which causes problems to the finished side
If you need to score a heavier paper/cardstock, duplicate the score line several times, align all of them together, position them, and attach like in the video. I was able to score 110-lb cardstock for a business-card holer on an Explore Air by repeating my score lines 5 times.
I added a line to my card but I couldn’t figure out how to make it to deboss because it would only give me option to cut and perforate and score ..how do you choose deboss instead of score ??
You can definitely use the deboss tool with the Maker 3. It's just a personal preference I guess with the results I saw it seemed to be the better choice. You do need to change score lines to deboss lines in design space though which is an extra step.
My BRAND-NEW Maker 3 REFUSES to recognize the "01" scoring tip...I'm trying to cut/score cardstock. If I change my material selection to something that demands I insert the "02 Double-Scoring Wheel", it works just fine. ARRRRGH!
That's really odd, I would try clearing the cache and reboot your device. If that doesn't work, try uninstall reinstall but be sure to delete the program files. If that doesn't work, give cricut a call.
Hi, thanks for your video! Very helpful! It does make we wonder... could I also use a foil transfer tip instead? Has any one tried this? It looks like it is almost the same tip as the stylus.
I had considered that but when I've applied the foil transfer it doesn't really leave any lines. I am planning a video in future that will feature the foil tools so will keep that in mind. Thanks! ☺
I've owned a Cricut Maker for 3 years and over time the scoring wheels lines have lost depth. Anyone knows if is it possible to recalibrate them? Thank you.
Unfortunately there's no way to calibrate. It may have become dull over 3 years. You could try replacing the scoring tip to see if it makes a difference or use the deboss tool
Near as I can tell (and from feedback on DesignBundles' Community) there is no way to adjust the pressure on the scoring tools. I tried the tools on my (then) new Maker (I only have it about 6 months, but have not Cricut-ed in a while), and the pressure/impression of the tools was basically garbage on anything heavier than 110-lb cardstock.
But you can score some heavier materials by making multiple copies of the score line, aligning them together, and attaching them to the shape you want to score.
The Maker and Maker 3 are exactly the same except for smart materials so to answer your question, yes you can use the scoring tools. The scoring stylus can be used on both explore and Maker series machines.
My scoring stylus didn't work well and actually unlocked during the stylus function, I have a circuit maker, have you had this happen? What do you suggest? I was using it on medium card stock
