For those of us who are only just finding out about the world of headphone hi quality sound, this is a very good and helpful video, thank you so much. Can you tell me, what platform and what kind of files are you listening to? I am a Mac user so I am listening to Apple Music, but only began listening after the upgraded the platform to CD quality files, or higher. I upgraded my headphones to a pair of B&W PX7’s, which have a built in DAC. Then I bought a higher quality USB-C cable and WOW the music came alive. It was like I had bought a new pair of far more expensive headphones. I am sure the kind of upgraded specialist system that you have pushes the experience far further along. Thank you once more

Hello Peter, thanks for the positive feedback and my apologies for answering so late. I am currently travelling through Scotland and don't spend much time online. Love the Bowers and Wilkins PX7s, those are some excellent sounding headphones. My preferred playback software is Audirvana, not sure how they do it, but it makes my music sound better than with any other software I tried. Th8e file format I listen to most is FLAC. I got my old iPad Air 2 with Qobuz Sublime, a FiiO USB B-Lightning interconnect, the RME ADI-2 DAC fs and a Focal Clear MG. “Let it happen” from Tame Impala is my graduation song from my audiophile hobby ❤

Curious what your thoughts are on the Niimbus US4 / US4+ as well as the Violectric V550 Pro and V590? I heard the new Niimbus has incredible resolution and detail retrieval but doesn't have the classic Violectric sound signature of warmth that the V281 had.

@@YuriBrus exciting maybe you can do a content segment on your experience at HEM. Lots of great products came out during the pandemic that likely haven't gotten their due coverage. Niimbus and Violectric are two examples of premium products with a significant fanbase yet there really aren't any reviews for either. Niimbus is very expensive the the V590 was halted due to the fire at the dac plant.

@@aceofspades6667 Yeah, most definitely will do that, Just hope it won't get canceled again due to another pandemic. So far, I haven't seen any Niimbus products live, but I've been reading into it and this new brand from 'Lake People' looks very promising. Have you had any hands on yet?

Have my eye's on this dac for the longest. Guess i will pull the trigger coming holidays 😁. Thanks for simple and straight forward video. One question DSD is limited to 256 what will happen if i feed dsd 512? Will it convert to PCM?

Thanks for the feedback and question. Unfortunately, in my setup at least, it will not playback DSD512 at all, only DSD64 DSD128 and DSD256. I do believe that if you use ROON, the software will downsample DSD512 to 256 on the fly, but I have not tested that.

This may be a really dumb question, but I’m just getting into and learning about higher end audio equipment. From what I’ve seen people have an amp and a dac for higher quality headphones. You did not mention an amp in this video. Is that because this dac also is an amp? Again sorry if I sound dumb, I’m just learning.

Hello and thank you for your question, and don't worry, that is not a dumb question at all. The RME ADI-2 DAC FS that I use for my headphone setup is indeed both a DAC and a headphone amplifier (amp) combined in one device. If you are just starting out with, and you are looking for a decent sounding headphone setup at an affordable price, I can recommend looking into Schiit Audio (www.schiit.com). The USB cable is too rich for my pockets, but i wondered i have a Macbook Pro with USB C would buying such a cable be rendered useless as it would be connected to a dongle to change the USB fro B to C. Great video thanks for you opinion

Hello Alwyn, thank you for your feedback and question. Personally, I am not a big fan of dongles or adapters and would prefer to use a dedicated USB-C cable. Hi Ruben, vielen Dank für dein tollen Feedback. Cool, ich habe den Arcam rHead selber noch nicht gehört, aber der wird super bewertet. Mit den KEFs bin ich grundsetzlich zufrieden, es ist die Wireless II Ausführung, nur ärgert es mich das bei dieses Model die USB-B Port fehlt. Liebe Grüße aus der Schweiz, Yuri

i got same dac but for headphone i got focal cleare + aht50x. sound 100% good. if i want listen music with sound stage and cristal cleare sound i use mia focan cleare but if o want hedaphone ramble on my haed with enormus basse and very loud then put on my ath50x they are not cleare sound as focals but they very loud they can handel all that power that rme dac give.

Very nice combo, I went to Delft for the Feliks Echo mk2 and the Earman TrAmp for its DAC only. Both power my Denon AH-D9200 and gives me Virtual Reality experience with most songs that are well recorded. USB C cable is the Cinnamon from Audioquest

Fantastic setup you have there, especially the Denon AH-D9200. Wish you didn’t mention the Denon though, because now I’m going to have sleepless nights again (I would really like one too 😊). I wasn’t familiar with the earman TrAmp, looks good. What do use as a source, a computer?

@@YuriBrus I use Tidal on my iPad Pro. Nice feature of the little TrAmp is that it's portable and has 2 headphone outputs but also a line out with the option of a fixed and variable volume.

@@YuriBrus sound of the Earman is better than my Audioquest Dragonfly Cobalt. The Feliks tube amp brings it to another level. Buyers tip for this combo, play any Barry White song for her and she will agree with the extra 700 euro.

The cable part made me doubt about your hearing ability. Do yourself a favor and do a proper A/B/X test with that cable and a generic one. You will not be able to tell them apart.

Just a word of warning for anyone watching this considering buying a usb cable like shown in the video: With cables like usb where its digital, the quality of cable(excluding the standard - 2.0/3.0/etc.) will make zero difference as it will either get from one end to the other or not and anything that is claimed beyond that is placebo. Any fancy premium usb cables are purley snake oil and exist to steal money from those unaware of how such standards work. with analogue signals there is a case to be made that the quality of cable will effect the output up until a certain point but not so with digital cables. This post is not to offend anyone who has bought one of these products, just to help people avoid being scammed by shady companies out of potentially hundreds of dollars/pounds.

I personally would not spend more money on a DAC/AMP than the headphones themself. I have an ADI-2 Dac Fs and can attest that it is a fantastic all in one solution but you should not spend that kind of money on a DAC/AMP until you have a higher end pair of headphones. The 660s is a great pair of headphones but I don't believe that it will allow you to reach the full potential of the ADI-2 so I would recommend spending less on the DAC and more on the headphones themselves. Just my opinion.

You'd probably want a linear power supply for the rme

Yes, I already looked at Sbooster and on their website they specifically recommend the 15-16V model. Have you tried changing out the power supply on the RME?

@@YuriBrus I haven't but I have a general experience of it. I would say perhaps getting a USB card (JCAT femto) and upgrading the power supply to the rme would yield slightly more improvement over the USB cable use here. Although the Sbooster is good, maybe you can get a dual output PSU, one that has 5v out for the USB card.

Nice setup, but I highly doubt USB cable makes any difference. It's a digital signal and the USB connection continues inside the laptop/desktop before it reaches the main board with simple wires.
