The TJM single has been awesome for the last 2 years so no surprise that the new twin is a good unit. Great to see a comparison.

Super happy with the tjm, the arb is definitely a great unit and if you were running big tanks the higher pressure rating on the switch would definitely help inflation times

Likewise, I've had my TJM single for over 3yrs and haven't had any issues. I run 35's and front and rear TJM lockers. Wouldn't mind the twins, but seeing as the single is still good, I'll stick with it.

I just got the Y62 a few weeks ago and took it to Ontrack 4x4 who said they do TJM compressors now with their installs because of ongoing complaints from customers about ARB which I had no idea about and your comparison just confirms it! In saying that, I previously had the single ARB compressor with nil issues though it did get hot! Awesome work guys!

Your going to love the y62 mate. I think the single arb might not get as hot around the electrical components as they aren’t in the valley like on the twin and the heat causes the issues The tjm are an amazing compressor still happy as a pig in 💩 now with it

Good video. After watching this imma get a TJM. The reason its slower airing up the smaller tires on the vehicle it due to the added weight of the vehicle. the compressors have to work harder to fight against the additional pressure from the weight vs the tires that are off the vehicle.

I've had no dramas with my ARB Compressor. My biggest issue with pumping up tyres is kneeling down or constantly holding a trigger or checking every 20secs where the pressure is at. I've got the ARB Lynx System even with all it flaws and it has a lot. Using an indeflate, setting pressure on lynx and pumping up 2 tyres at once, takes all the shit parts out of pumping up tyres. I've saw someone on facebook had installed quick connects in every wheel well and then individual short hoses to each tyre seems like my kind of setup, doing all 4 at once

Great review Gents! Very similar results to what I got. It was a shame the ARB relay quit, though I think it's an unusual failure for them. I still like the ARB with a tanks for better performance (I use two old 9kg fire extinguishers under the sills. ) Though I wonder if you could swap out the pressure switch in the TJM to even up the playing field with tanks.
@4x4brothers
@4x4brothers 2 года назад
Cheers mate. We have had a msg with someone with the same relay issue but like we said there are so many of them out there the percentage of failed would be very low we would think. If you have the room for tanks arb with higher pressure is a big advantage but we have also seen tests done and with a smaller tank makes zero difference so if space is tight they ain't really worth having hey. Would definitely be interesting to see if you could up the pressure on the tjm

Once reputation for reliability is established, large companies tend to cut costs by altering manufacturing procedures, like outsourcing for e.g. ARB might have done that. TJM weighing 50% more than ARB is no good as weight in every item in car quickly adds up. I have already done gvm upgrade to 4080kg in my Y62 S5 Patrol. Pick any item you carry and find an equivalent item with less weight and compare the cost. If you want the same strength and functionality it will cost heaps more.
@4x4brothers
@4x4brothers 2 года назад
Weight is definitely a big consideration these days with weights of cars. And I think it's a issue with where the relays sit and the heat that caused the issue. Mounting them external would fix that

Good work guys. I had wondered if it was worth the TJM but not sure how that fits in the rear quarter of the Y62. Also the difference with pumping the tyres up on the car could be because the weight of the car putting the extra pressure on the tyres.

Pressure is pressure when it comes to compressors. The vehicle sitting on its tires does not make it harder to inflate to the set psi however if you raise the vehicle up the pressure may drop a few PSI
@TravelExplore4x4
@TravelExplore4x4 Год назад
@@jakeyoungker yep I agree that pressure is pressure. My thought was that if you have more weight on something and you are trying to pump it up to a certain PSI that compressor is working harder to push the air in as the extra weight is trying to force the air out of the tyre at the same time. So filling up a tyre with no weight on it I thought would be easier on the compressor so means it would go a bit quicker. 🤷🏽‍♂️
@furai333
@furai333 Год назад
@@TravelExplore4x4 No you're right, I had this issue with a ride on mower, took forever to pump up a flat tyre sitting on the ground, soon as we jacked it up off the ground it was done in under a minute. Try it with a wheelbarrow wheel flat and loaded up vs empty. If it wasn't the sensor restrictions definitely would be the weight of the vehicle. Mine does 2:30 for two tyres on an indeflate from 20-40psi on the car. Couldn't be happier with it.

Never had an issue with my ARB double and given the quality of the parts they use that's really weird. I am not a fan of any tank in the system it's almost always going to be empty so you are pumping up the tank and the tyre at the same time. If you want to run some air tools then having a tank is useful.

No surprise of the outcome with ARB technical fault - a camp colleague has gone through two Twin ARB compressors after both failed within a short time and he knows how to use them with quality hoses and fittings including a storage tank - he took the second one apart and discovered a lot of ‘made in China’ components - so he decided to get a TJM twin compressor this time and it’s worked very well over several mths now.
