Comparison of the ending of the anime Ultimate Muscle: The Kinnikuman Legacy with it's manga source.
I was totally surprised that the anime changed the victor of the match from the manga.
Manga is Kinnikuman II Vol 21, Chapter 210-211.
Episode 77 of the anime, Ultimate Muscle.

I can see why the anime rewrote the fight in Mantaro's favor, but that was interesting to see Mantaro not be able to escape his Big Ben Bash! Kevin is my fav character and it's so cool that the under dog, the rival to the main character of the anime, wins the final fight!

But then it's leads to the question, why isn't Kevin mask the main character? It's like making a side character who can't win the main character. Seems uninteresting if they do that, and makes the winner the interesting one.

Agreed, and if they had continued with the anime ending leading into the Akuma revival arc. It would be some months later and Mantaro got beaten by Ashuraman which would make Kevin Mask step in and have his redemption arc while Mantaro heals and also trains to overcome Asuraman. The arc would play it safe just with Kevin Mask as a Lead or a while.

Always thought Kevin should've won because this dude TRAINED hard to counter the Muscle Millennium and all of Kid's other techniques. Sure, farmer guy helped Kid train but he spent the moments leading up to the match eating and whatnot while Kevin was working himself nearly to death and actually followed the advice of his trainer. Then a few episodes prior to the final match, they turn Kevin into a massive jerk to make you NOT want him to win. The whole line about the power of friendship nonsense is ridiculous because it is sending a message that no matter how much work you put into something to achieve a goal or win; a slacker who has friends/family pushing them can come out on top...

Funny thing thats kinnikumans bread and butter but in nesei it really shows how different the kid is to his dad where his dad started from the very bottom and actually climbed his way up and even in the Manga where kid still used the power, of friendship/family he still had to rebuild himself from the lose kivej gave him and even created a new finisher to win after all his moves have ben rendered useless

It's because it's owned by Toei Animation. The series was doing very badly in Japan. It barely managed to get the finale out. Toei Animation own Sailor Moon, Dragon ball, Transformers & One Piece. They could make another season of any of these franchises and they would be more popular then an ultimate muscle reboot. Toei Animation made a killing on the toys as well, the ultimate muscle toys didn't sell well because of it's low popularity. And that's what it comes down to, which anime series makes the most $$$.
@Bitterman5868
@Bitterman5868 Год назад
The manga was rebooted to tone down most of the stuff that happened there, since it was originally sold along with japanese "Jump playboy" if the anime had continued on, there would be stuff like the iber optic bomb that rips people's faces off, brocken jr losing his arm and so on.
@destroyerbreaker7394
@destroyerbreaker7394 Год назад
The franchise is coming back, though it's going back to the original generation...and that's about all we know about the upcoming anime, that it will focus on Suguru(Kinnikuman), Robin Mask and the others, something about how they are still more popular than their kids in Japan. It's the opposite in America because Ultimate Muscle exists and has a dub, but it doesn't mean Mantaro and Kevin Mask are the biggest everywhere else, so unless the next anime has some kind of time travel story arc, they won't appear.
@LordProteus
@LordProteus Год назад
If they reboot anything, it will be the original. The original was more beloved than Nisei(the sequel) and indeed, the original manga was revived roughly a decade ago and is still going. Coincidentally, they're doing a Time Choujin arc, which is corssing-over with Nisei, which itself ended with a Time Choujin arc... (Nisei went on for four more stories after what we saw in the Anime)

I understand why they had to rewrite the ending in the anime.... But the manga remains as the rightful result to that match. It's the most plausible way to end the rivalry between the Kinniku and Robin clans, and for Kevin's scar to vanish. It's also the most interesting turn of events, because instead of the typical ''villain reformed after losing to Kinnikuman or his son'' formula, Kevin reforms, even in victory because of their hard fought battle. And this does plant the seeds for more stories to be told.

Mantaro losing to Kevin was also huge for chis character development, with him actually becoming serious (somewhat) about training and fighting, until by the time travel arc Mantaro was even a mentor figure for Chaos. 2:59 imagine reading the manga then being shocked by this ending. To be fair, both the manga and the anime are alternate timelines of the Ultimate Muscle story. Apparently, the author of the ultimate muscle manga approved of the anime story's conclusion, which means this reimagination of the Kid vs Kevin story arc is pretty much canon to the overall story with just a different alternate twist. Just because the hero's (Kid Muscle) story is slightly altered in a climatic event does not change the overall narrative of the story's message. What seemed to be most important in the end, was for both Kid and Kevin to developed a newfound respect for each other, which would end their family feud via Kevin's mask self-refurbished, which apparently occurred in both the anime and manga story. Since both the manga and anime story dont divulge from this. Apparently, the point of the Kid vs Kevin story arc, was for both wrestlers to develop a respect for each other and end their family's fued. It didn;t matter who won or lost, since what mattered the most was that both kid and kevin learned to respect each other and become better wrestlers, which both the anime and manga continuity illustrated. I think that's the point the author wanted to get across as the actual canon conclusion to the Kid vs Kevin story arc.

I get why the anime changed things since this was the finale and the showrunners wanted things to end on a high note. Though to be honest I find Kevin Mask's motivation to be pretty weak, to the point why I actually feel he deserved to lose because of it. He's out to avenge the shame from Robin Mask losing to Kinnikuman, except Robin Mask had long since buried the hatchet. Also the dub changed this, but in the original, removing a Kinniku's mask doesn't mean they lose the right to wrestle, it means they have to commit suicide. Kevin tried to win by committing MURDER over a grudge stemming from a defeat his father suffered that his father doesn't even care about. I have seen some people talk about Kevin winning made his redemption make more sense. Honestly his redemption seems weak either way given that he tried to kill Mantaro and nobody holds it against him. And this is after Kevin left the DMP. Having started to read Kinnukuman, Warsman training Kevin to pull of Mantaro's mask doesn't make any sense either. That feels like something the series was doing just to reference Kinnukuman's match with Warsman. Except Warsman was a villain during that arc who was initially struggling with his loyalty to his abusive teacher before telling him to suck it. Given Robin Mask rather suddenly became evil in that arc which was never brought up again, that is not something I see as worth referencing.
@phantomlord77
@phantomlord77 2 года назад
It's basically Terry's motivation from the start of the series. Terry hating Kinnikuman always making his father place second findle making him in turn hate Kinniku. Except where we can understand Terry idolizing his father and hate how people called him Kinnikuman's partner. Robin on the other hand was only mention in the same breath as Kinnikuman for being really strong and having amazing fights against eachother regardless if outcome. It felt like they wanted to give an actual rivally between Terry and Kinniku but ended up changing it to Kevin given the great fights between Robin and Kinnikuman
@dragonstormx
@dragonstormx 2 года назад
@@phantomlord77 That still makes no sense since Kevin's grudge comes out of nowhere, plus early on, he hated his father, and we didn't see any reconciliation with them prior to the tournament. Kevin just seems to stop hating Robin Mask even though he has no reason to. Also, Warsman's advice is baffling. He suggests Kevin try to pull of Mantaro's mask and force him to commit suicide. That feels like that is just something done for the sake of referencing Warsman's match with Kinukuman. Except Warsman was a villain when he did that, so it doesn't make sense for him to recommend such an underhanded tactic again.
@ZenkuTheories
@ZenkuTheories 2 года назад
Kevin wasn't just fighting to avenge his father's loss to Kinnikuman. He was fighting to restore his family's previous status in the chojin world. Sure, Robin settled things with Kinnikuman, but his loss still badly affected the Mask family. His motivation was certainly better than Mantaro's. Kevin wasn't trying to rip off Mantaro's mask because of what happened to his dad. He wanted to be the first person to do the unthinkable and unmask a Kinniku. If he had succeeded, his family's fame would have skyrocketed. No one held Kevin's murder attempt against him because the Choujin Olympics allowed it. Plus, people wanted to see a Kinniku unmasked. Yeah, Kevin left the DMP, but he didn't instantly stop being a brutal Chojin. I mean, the guy nearly killed Turbinski in his previous match. Robin Mask's time as a villain is usually brought up whenever there's a big moment with Warsman. It's not brought up often, but it's brought up nonetheless. I don't see why it wouldn't be referenced in a big match such as this.
@dragonstormx
@dragonstormx 2 года назад
@@ZenkuTheories I don't see why he cared about his family status when his father's concern with that legacy is what robbed Kevin of his childhood. When we were introduced to him he hated his family legacy and joined the DMP as a result, leaving not because any Justice Chojin ideals won him over, but because he saw the DMP were honorless brutes who only cared about winning with even the lives of their own meaning nothing. We never see any sort of reconciliation between Kevin and Robin. In fact Kevin seems to show more respect of Mantaro than he does his own father. And of course, everyone just forgives Kevin despite him ripping a man's arms in a prior match after he already won and trying to murder Mantaro. We see no signs of regret for either of these things, everyone just forgives him because he decides to not be a sore winner. To be honest Robin Mask's time as a villain never made any sense. We got that he was sore about his loss to Kinnikuman. Except in the arc where he returned he also saved Kinnukuman's life, even if he was willing to go to extremes to do it, he wanted to win cleanly and still had his sense of honor. In the following arc, Robin Mask was instead written as a heartless abuser who ordered Warsman to strike one of his fans, a kid no less. Warsman's character was realizing how Robin Mask was a cruel man who just saw him as a tool of his revenge against Kinnukuman and stood up to him while also befriending Kinnukuman. When Robin Mask appeared in again after the arc, his time as a villain is never brought up, he's just treated as though he's one of the good guys. Given that villainous role was never brought up again it would make more sense if Warsman's trainer was an unrelated villain since he's just suddenly forgiven Robin Mask like everyone else did. Nothing is done to show him transitioning away from being evil, it just happens.

The ending of the match in the manga was better, Kevin was the better wrestler and it taught a good lesson of you don't win just cause you're "the good guy" the better man wins and even though Kevin wins he realises he has made his best match because kid pushed him to his limits. Kid fought till the end, his mind was still fighting but his body gave out. If the Anime had ended with Kevin winning I'd have been so hyped to a rematch later on between the two and have Kid become more serious in his training to defeat Kevin. The rivalry between the Kinnikuman and the Masks could've become competitive and showed great sportsmanship instead of standard two families who hate each other.

In the manga at least, it's not the final fight and there's more arcs after that. His defeat against Kevin does shake things up a little in the next arc, since Kid ends up being really insecure of his own strength, and he can't get used to the fact that he's no longer seen as the strongest, instead everyone is relying on Kevin to defeat the new antagonist because he is the world champion and Kid is seen as merely his sidekick. What's worse is that Kevin really acts heroic and wants to save Meat to make up for all the bad things he's done before, but Kid is acting selfish and doesn't want Kevin's help because he fears that Meat may end up liking Kevin more than him if that happens, and then he would've truly lost everything

@@EvilGeniusRANIK The manga is divided into 2 parts The final fight of the first part was a tag match between The Young Masters (Kid Muscle and Kevin) and The Demolitions (Ashuraman and Voltman). Ashuraman and Voltman are members of the Demon Seeds, a group of devil chojin who seek to sacrifice Meat's body to bring back their leader, Akuma Shogun (arguably the most iconic antagonist of the original Kinnikuman manga). Ashuraman is also a character from the original Kinnikuman manga, who made a deal with the devil to regain his youth in this arc. The final fight of the second part is another tag match (the entire arc is one big tag tournament) between The Young Masters and the Five Disasters (Lightning & Thunder). Lightning and Thunder are "time chojin" who traveled back in time in order to kill Robin Mask and the rest of the legends in the past to change history. They've got time manipulating abilities, the most annoying of which is their ability to rewind their bodies to undo any damage they take.

The anime ends here. The manga carries on for another 7 volumes. Manga is considered canon.

they're both alternate timelines. they're both approved by the creator of the manga and are equally canon. the manga ending is garbage. kevin has no actual motivation and tries to win by murder lmao

They probably changed it cause Big Bang Bash rolls off the tongue better.

So glad the manga is the CANON adaptation. The anime is literally filler
@DoctorKnow00
@DoctorKnow00 Год назад
Only filler for the finale of the series. The manga of Nisei was cancelled after the Demon Seed arc, and the anime was cancelled in the middle of the chojin crown arc. Nisei anime and manga, didn’t have an audience in Japan. So the powers that be caught their losses while they could. Nisei did well in America, so 4Kids commissioned and co-produced 26 more episodes to finish the chojin crown arc. Ultimate Muscle was even added to the title in Japan. In an attempt to increase the hype and rebrand the series. Kid winning for the end of the anime makes sense to bookend the series abruptly. In the manga, Kevin becomes a better person after beating Kid, but Kid has sour grapes for awhile before he gets over losing to Kevin. The tag team matches against Reborn Asuraman and Thunder/Lightning fully bury the animosity between the two in the manga.

Why was the ending rewriting
@lechatnoir3042
@lechatnoir3042 11 месяцев назад
The anime ended early, so they had to give it a happy ending. The manga's story continues after this arc (this is chapter 211 of the manga, which ended up having 610 chapters)
