William optics has a short nose thread on diagonal that even clears zenith on the older nexstar non removable ota version. On an SE, you can move the scope forward to clear, but also, even a standard thread on sct diagonal is a better option for that scope than a separate visual back, 2" nose diagonal combo. Televue sells a shorter visual back and 2" diagonal, but that is big bucks.

If you are going 2", some max field eyepieces are a must, 55/56 plossl for when you need max brightness like when using a nebula filter on things like the veil, or when at a dark site in general, a 38-42 range superwide like the 40mm swan, for all around widefield viewing where a 4mm exit pupil is sufficient, and a 30mm ultrawide like the Chinese 5 element 1rpd/agena types (also available generically for not a ton of money), or a nicer Japanese one like a KK widescan II or III or UO MK80. At f10 the heavy 31 nagler or any of the 30/31mm beasts out there, are not as necessary, while they are sharp to the edge, the more classic designs are close enough for government work in a Schmidt, and they didn't cost or weigh nearly as much.

Great video. Almost my identical setup except I have the HD. Same Baader MK IV and diagonal. The only think I would suggest and I did improve my view was to layer the inside of the 'Dew Shield' with some flocking paper; because if you notice the inside is just as reflective as the outside.

Im a big fan of your channel, but just an fyi for beginners: once you add the wifi module and battery tank to the 8se price, you are about $180 away from the Evo 8. For that, you get manual clutches and the ability to use usb power anytime. Also, its one integrated kit, no wires and a clean look. Something to consider.

J Barry......that's correct regarding the Evolution. I have the 9.25" Evolution which is just out of this world 🙌 it is full of new innovation which makes Astronomy more fun. It has a built in 10 hr lithium ion battery so no need for a power tank to power it, other than the traditional hand controller you can use the SkyPortal App via your iPhone or Android device to control the telescope, it aligns itself with Starsense Autoalign, You can polar align to any star or planet and not the north star, after a 3 star alignment you have the option to align to 12 more additional stars eliminating the need for a auto guider.....i've aligned to 3 additional stars for precise tracking and the list goes on 🔭

Well farely cheap and a MUST if you live in a humid area is a dew heater. They make them for around $30 that will run an 8", up to fancy ones you can adjust the output and even maintain a temp. But if humidity clouds your corrector plate, without a dew heater, your viewing is shot for the night. Mine cost $30 and runs on a cell phone jump battery, another $30. It has saved many a night's viewing. You may want a better battery pack for the scope, because if it can run the scope and an USB, it could run your dew heater. I use my cellphone battery pack to run dew heaters for my camera lenses too. Since my dew heaters aren't adjustable, I just plug them in at the first sign of dew on the tube.

Great video! 1 accessory I use with the 8se when I'm not in need of high magnification is the focal reducer/corrector. I never did get why the dew shield has the name upside-down. I wonder if they corrected that with the new version of dew shield? I do like that the new version has flocking on the inside.
@AVTAstro
@AVTAstro 3 года назад
I agree that if your sticking to 1.25" eyepiece the reducer is good to have. I prefer to just use 2" eyepieces and if using that it's not needed. To me it's more of a photographic accessory.

Hi David, unfortunately without going to a different mount there is not too much of a fix. You can get a wedge and run it in polar mode and then probably not have the issue as much but I don't think this is a very easy solution.

The best thing I got out of this was the info regarding the battery's limitation. I wanted it for both powering the scope and running something like the dew heater via the USB port. If you can't do that, then this battery is only good for one thing and for it's price, I have to really think about that.
@AVTAstro
@AVTAstro Год назад
Yeah for me that was a no-go, and I ended up getting rid of that battery. I ended up buying this 17ah version: amzn.to/3wdL72t All the ports work at the same time! actually will be posting a review on it soon!

Nice Vid been very seriously looking at getting an 8SE all I keep reading is it cant handle the weight if you add anything. I was curious if you found this to be the case or if they are more being perfectionists. I was only really thinking of adding due guard and sometimes attaching my DSLR rather then eyepieces.

No the barlow cannot be used alone. What it does is double(2x) magnification any eyepiece you put into it. I'd recommend watching this video as I talk about most everything you need to understand how eyepieces/barlows work: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-3x7FR9nfZd4.html

Was thinking about a 6Se for weight and portability. I have two questions. How do you put a 2" diagonal on the 6SE? I thought that could only take 1.25" accessories. Also, if it uses the same mount, how does the tripod perform with the extra weight of the 8" model plus heavier eyepieces (visual only, no cameras, etc)? Thanks
@AVTAstro
@AVTAstro 3 года назад
Basically to use 2" with any SCT(including the 6se/8se) all you need is a 2" visual back or a 2" SCT Diagonal. Link to a visual back is below and then you can use any 2" diagonal or other accessories you like. As far as the tripod, I have not had an issue with the 8se working well even with 2" gear. Its still a fairly light scope overall. Though as I have said in other videos the entire Nexstar SE mount is better suited for the 6SE. 2" Visual back: amzn.to/3mBJXIF

@simona1136 2 года назад
@@AVTAstro Hi.. Is there really no benefit to be had using a 2" diagonal on the 6SE because the baffle size is smaller than the 8SE in the first place and this cannot be changed notwithstanding what visual back etc you add~?

Save yourself a lot of money and don’t buy the Celestron Case. Keep the cardboard box that came with the telescope as well as the protective styrofoam inserts. Buy a wheeled tote like Sterlite 32”x18”x14” for $20 at Walmart or Target and you will find your telescope and it’s cardboard shipping box fit snugly and secure in the wheeled tote.
