Joyce Tan Thank you so much, Joyce! So glad we decided to spend 5 weeks in Penang and really get to explore the food. It is a wonderful place. Nutmeg juice is amazing! You should try it next time. We are excited to visit Melaka sometime soon! Plan to binge on all the delicious Nyonya food and much more
@@FoodandFootprints You're most welcome! And thanks for the Nutmeg recommendation! Will load it down as soon as I get to Penang! 😂👍🏻 Melaka, always a good spot to have authentic Nyonya Food! Some how or rather, the Melakan Nyonya food doesn't taste the same as those in Penang, Singapore or Johor! Definitely a different method of cooking & their Secret Recipes! 🤔😁👨🏻🍳
Joyce Tan Exactly why we held off on eating more Nyonya food in Penang since we figured Melaka would be soon! Enjoy eating as much as possible of the signature dishes from each place we go
Definitely must try one with duck eggs and preferably cooked in burning charcoal the best with the Wok Hei... just like the Ah Leng CKT we had at Ayer Hitam, right Greg and Jumi? I'm getting hungry already 😂
I thought I had eaten everything there was to eat in Penang. Your video proved me wrong! Great video guys and now I know about so much more food I need to try.
Thank you so much, guys! There is so much to eat in Penang and still lots more to try. Hope you get the chance to check these out. Put nutmeg juice near the top of your list to try if you haven’t already. Could easily drink it daily!
So much value in Malaysia 🇲🇾 you don't just get great food but you get it for the best price. Surprised to see so much variety for under $1.5 that nasi lemak, fried duck egg 🐣 kway teoh 🥰🤤 the nutmeg drink sounds amazing 😯 didn't even know that was a thing. Rojak is one of yen's mums favorites sotong is a nice addition add some extra texture. Penang looks awesome 👌 great video guys
Peter and Yen Exactly! Great food at great price for quality - Malaysia is tough to beat. The fried duck egg koay teow may be the best of all 🤤. The nutmeg drink was the biggest surprise - didn’t know nutmeg fruit was a thing before coming here. You guys will love Penang! Thank you so much - really enjoyed putting this one together
An excellance food critics. The way you describe the food shows that you really know the ingrediant of the food and you can make the audiances relate and understand the food better. Tourism dept should appoint both of you to promotes to the world.
That means a lot to hear - thank you very much! That is what we aim to do with our videos - love highlighting all the wonderful dishes and great hawkers and restaurants
Unbelievable. You guys are real hard core foodies. Moh Teng Pheow is such a hidden local gem which Malaysians outside Penang have not heard of & you guys dug it out. I have been there & love their food. And I can't believe that you guys can take in Ali Nasi Lemak without a sweat. I find the sambal quite spicy. And lastly a white guy eating putu mayong ( it's putu mayam btw) with bare hand, that made my day. So glad to see you guys enjoying the foodie central of Malaysia, that is Penang.
Adjuster Chia Thank you so much! Did a lot of research on where to eat in Penang and Moh Teng Pheow sounded like a great spot to try as we are kuih lovers, especially with all the history. Haha the sambal was spicy - you just didn’t see us sweat on camera 😅 We had such a great time eating and exploring Penang - so glad we decided to stay for over a month
@@FoodandFootprints wow, one month in Penang. You need to show us part 2 of your Penang food adventure. Haha. Did you guys go to Kuala Terengganu, Melaka, Ipoh or Taiping? Lots of great food there too. For great local Malaysian coffee, the southern part of the Peninsular, i.e. Johor has some of the best. Towns like Muar & Kluang have good coffee as they have their own coffee producers.
Adjuster Chia We have 3 other Penang food videos with one more on the way! We went to Kuala Terengganu and Ipoh and have a few videos from each there too. Melaka and Taiping are on our list to check out eventually. Thanks for the suggestions on Johor. We are big coffee fans.
@@FoodandFootprints For Taiping, you got to go to Antong Coffee Mill where they roast the coffee beans using charcoal ovens. They provide free coffee samples too and even have durian flavoured coffee. Haha. As for Muar in Johor, you need to go to Sai Kee 434 coffee shop, my personal favourite. In Kluang, Johor, there's Television Brand Coffer Factory. Enjoy your cuppa. I am a coffee lover too. Cheers.
Sally Tan Thanks a lot! Loved food hunting in Penang and it was well worth staying for 5 weeks! Enjoyed it all and still much more to try for future visits
Never seen or heard of rojak before but it looks super interesting... sour fruits with squid, would have never thought of a combination like that but would certainly be interested in trying it out now.
Blue, red, green...it all looked soooo good! With you on that coconut rice snack, nutmeg tea and ginger tea!! Glad you showed us the pricing too. It wasn’t a place I thought to travel to. Not sure why, just off the radar. After seeing your food adventures there; it’s a must now!! Thanks, as always!
Gotta love those colorful kuih! The nutmeg is actually a juice, but bet it would be good mixed with tea. The teh halia (ginger tea) is amazing! Never had ginger tea with milk before Malaysia and it is a genius combo. Figured we would do something a little different this time and show how you can get quality food for a low price. Had fun putting this one together! As a food lover, Penang (and Malaysia as a whole) should be at the top of your list. Thank you for your support! 😁
Nutmeg is definitely one of the BEST drinks in Penang!!! Went to this spot twice since you guys recommend, but it was closed! Definitely will come to check out this place next time we return to Penang! I like how nurse Jumi is talking about the health benefits of nutmeg juice, while foodie Greg talks about the flavour :P That's how you both complete each other!
By far! Thanks to you guys for letting us know nutmeg juice was a thing in Penang. Ahhhh shame it was closed when you went. Another place for you guys to try next time - auntie is really nice and you will probably want seconds. Sooo true 😂😂 that was a perfect example. Nurse Jumi!
Greg and Jumi ... I respect you so much .. I am really amazed to see how both of you could eat all those food .. you two are champions of food tasting .. you know what .. in msia we always have this joke .. in other countries people die due to hunger but in msia, people die because there are too much food around ! .. 😂😂😂 take care guyss .. we love you ❤
Maziah Ismail Wow such a nice comment from you - really appreciate the kind words! Haha that is a great saying - there is so much incredible food here in Malaysia and we love trying as much as possible. Thank you so much!
Very good descriptions of every food you took, makes me go hungry even though I had my dinner not too long ago. Penang is a food Paradise. Cheaper then Kuala Lumpur.
We can see why you guys are so many fans over there. Love the showcase of foods you guys have going on. Those packets of nasi lemak are the cutest. And I can imagine they pack a punch.
Maria and Nabol Thanks a lot, guys! We really wanted to cover a lot of Penang dishes and figured this would be a unique way to do it. They really did pack a punch! 🌶
4 generations in the same family, that's such incredible dedication, would love to mix that sweet and spicy dipping sauce for the lor bak... such a cool way to prepare sausage.
Keep coming back to your old video just to listen to your critic on food. The way you comment on the nutmeg juice is like a master perfumer explain on their perfumes; the top notch smells like fresh lime and apple, the heart notch smells spicy where cardamon mixed with ground black pepper and the base notch smell woody of amber, amboxen and oud. That is totally on different level guys. Hope you are coming back to Malaysia to join ken abroad and the jetlag. Stay safe Greg and Jumi and enjoy yourselves.
Thank you so much for the kind words - we really appreciate it! Watched it again earlier today to reminisce on our time in Penang. We will definitely come back to Malaysia, hopefully in the next year or two. Will always have a special place in our hearts! Hope you are doing well
Awwwwwhhhh that char kuey teow!!! so much wok hei!! Love the wok action from the uncle. Absolutely one of the best!! Your expression when you guys eat that char koay teow... and followed by that sexy music, ooo la la!!
Yessss we probably ate his char koay teow the most of any in Penang thanks to easily accessible hours and no lines. Definitely one of the best - the uncle is amazing!
Hi Greg & Jumi, I just come across your video, I am so jealous that the both of you are enjoying the local Malaysian cheap cuisine. I currently live in the UK, many times I dream of eating all the food you have presented on this video. I really love and missed our Malaysian street foods ❤️❤️❤️❤️
You guys are always so lucky with the timing! Can't imagine how hard it must have been for you guys to fall in love with your first cendol in Malaysia and not have it for the next 3 years :P Glad you guys are back! and perfect timing too! ;)
We are! Made sure to eat this cendol a bunch during our stay - always a good decision. Thanks, guys! We are so glad to be back and definitely perfect timing 😁
Santos Chronicles Oh yeah! We love the sound of the clanking wok and scraping and sizzle. The best kind of ASMR. The lor bak is delicious! Look for it when you get Malaysian food
I miss Malaysia❤️😊 I live there almost 7 yrs / The food always spicy but one of my favourite is Roti with dal and Nasi Lemak the best😋😁 sending my full support hope to you around! 👍
Oh not yet! Is it from RSMY? Saw a few videos about their cheese naan. Love a good masala chai, though maybe a teh halia would be even better to help digest after!
@@FoodandFootprints Bingo!!! 🥳 Yes! Please try their cheese naan on an empty stomach, dip wt their flavourful curry chic + teh halia on your next trip! Whenever we have the urge of having cheese naan, no matter how far it is, we'll make a point to have it at RSMY 😝😋
Fyi There's a Great Nasi Lemak shop in NYC I think at Wall Street area, can't remember which street, the Owner is the lady who owns the Nyonya Restaurant called "Amy's Heritage Nyonya Cuisine" in Melaka. Her son is running the business there in NYC! I used to makan there & packed some spices for her from Malaysia when I was heading to NYC! 🤭🤫
Joyce Tan Oh interesting!! Would like to know what the name of the place is. There are a bunch of Nyonya spots in and around Chinatown. Kopitiam is the most famous - the owner is from Penang. We went there in our NYC Malaysian food video
This dessert edition sounds so good. Is that green beans in the coconut milk? It is starting to get cold over here in IL, so I'm jealous of the heat over there right now. Never had a nutmeg drink before, I'll make sure to try it when Melissa and I go to the Malaysian restaurant by here.
Those are red beans in the cendol. They work nicely together with the coconut milk, pandan noodles and palm sugar. Wow getting cold already? The nutmeg juice is probably not going to be easy to find. This was the first time we ever saw it and native to Penang. When you go, make sure to order lor bak or lobak and char koay teow!
that is a very interesting roll, with the crepe looking outside I really enjoy how shrimps are in many foods in Malaysia, that makes look forward to Malaysia, yes even more lol
Thank Greg and Jumi for highlight all these affordable quality street food places. Luckily I was just about to have my simple dinner at home before watching. The char Kuey teow with duck eggs and 2 real prawns for Rm 5.30 ..I really respect this hawker , I do not think I can get char Kuey teow with this 2 ingredients in it for below Rm6,7,8,9 or 10 anywhere else in Malaysia. Simple Nasi Lemak wrapped in real banana leaf so fragrant. The fresh nutmeg juice I had never heard of so definate must try if I get to go Penang, so too the lo bak, putu mayan ,pasembor ,nyonya kuih outlets recommended by both of you...I love good pulut tai tai with kaya and seri muka esp those made with generous pure natural ingredienrs in making it.. Cendol in a bowl with generous red beans, gula Melaka, pure santan, pandan flavour ..that's all it takes for a wonderful serving.. The reasonable price of rojak by the seaside ..simple joy in life..Pasembor is same as Indian Rojak I believe, another childhood food. As for the popiah its also my favourite food but I prefer with no sauce over the outer wrappings and also for the fillings I miss those with minced meat, chopped prawns and cuttlefish added into the sengkuang and cooked together until it becomes rich and flavourful . Jumi looks fabulous with pleated pony tail and hat. Nice T shirt from Queens, Greg. Thank you, thank you, thank you for all this wonderful tips
Thank you for watching and the lovely comment! The char koay teow is really special - not only a great price but incredible taste. The beauty of Penang where you can get food at low prices but high quality. Recommend all of them, but the fresh nutmeg juice especially. So refreshing and nice to have after all the heavy eating. Enjoyed both styles of rojak - our first time having both.
@@FoodandFootprints if I stay in Penang , likely I will become fatty bom.bom..because I can get so much yummy cheap food like that..I already put on maybe 5kgs since started watching all you wonderful RU-vidrs showing so much food that I too indulged more in it esp after MCO ended in May..one reason all those mouthwatering vlogs on RU-vid and also to support more local business so indulged more than before all this Covid pandemic..🙏
SK BeeBee Haha quite sure we did, even with lots of walking. So important to support all the great vendors and restaurants who have had a tough time with the MCO
Omg didn’t know that Malaysia also got Putu Mayong!! We always learn something new from your video 👍🏻 Indonesia also has it, we call it “Putu Mayang”, only 1 letter difference with Malaysian one 😄 Our putu mayang is more like a wet version, the banjir version haha We dont use shredded coconut, but we use coconut milk sauce mixed with palm sugar, similar taste like the liquid in cendol 🤤👍🏻 so good Now we have to find the Malaysian putu mayong to try it, I am sure it tastes equally delicious 🤤
Two Hungry Diners Cool to know Indonesia has it too! Would like to try that banjir version with coconut milk and palm sugar 🤤. Have seen it spelled a few different ways here and lots of locals saying it is “putu mayam.”
Rojak 😍😍 We found Penang Rojak is quite funky because of the additional sotong in there. Weird thing to add to the fruits but it actually goes well with them
Two Hungry Diners Haha it is quite funky but enjoyed it! Also tried another famous one that had a really thick almost caramel type sauce that was so rich
Those workers in that area are so lucky to have this place right next to them. I love duck egg. Can't believe how cheap everything is over there!! Thanks for converting it to U.S. Dollars. I might start grilling on charcoal again after seeing these videos.
They are! Beats most office lunch spots in the US haha. Duck egg makes the char koay teow nice and rich. Our pleasure! We don’t often list or mention prices, but for this one we wanted to highlight how well you can eat for a low price. Charcoal is the best!!
Hi Greg & Jumi, My Favourite As Per Below: 1- Nasi Lemak ~ Ali (B'fast) 2- Rojak ~ 101 (Lunch) 3- Popiah ~ Medan Selera (Lunch) 4- Pasembur ~ Kareem (Dinner) 5- Cendol ~ Teochew (All Day) 😂 *My Full Day Meals.....B'fast, Lunch & Dinner. TQ For Sharing.....All The Best & Have Fun 😎
tomteh1 Not for good, but we’ll probably be here for a while. We’re enjoying it, so we don’t consider ourselves stuck. Feel better staying here than going to another country right now
Ah yess the nutmeg pickle, I was mentioning in the other comment about sliced nutmeg that we usually have it Indonesia. Love nutmeg pickle, because we get the bites of the nutmeg flesh, so good! 😍
Daniel&Naz Haha loved hearing that clanking wok all the time in Penang! Go get some char koay teow from Little House Cafe in Elmhurst - you won’t regret it!
