I've been doing this for years, can't believe how many mechanics fail to break off top section of the sensor. (Going to replace anyway) Then simply using a 6 pt socket to remove. The socket that you used is the best 😊

Right on! Yep a solid 6 point can get it done. I learned the hard way and had already rounded the flats with "O2 Sockets" and pipe wrench. But breaking off from the start is probably the best route. Thanks for the comment!

I just had good luck with an offset 22mm wrench and applied a bunch of brake fluid to the threads right after running the car. Once the engine cooled I was able to get it off with the wrench + elbow grease

Awesome! Thanks for sharing your method. It's a wonderful feeling of victory when it breaks free!

Couldn't agree more! There have been times I thought it would tear or bend the pipe, but in the end it always comes free! Thanks for commenting.

You have a cup of transmission fluid , a cup of acetone mix put around bass of censor wait an hour, then remove..

Thank you! This is good advice!! I have one of those spray cans you fill with liquid then pressurize with air. It is filled with this exact 50/50 mixture! It's usually a mix up between this and Kroil for my favorite.

I have an O2 sensor that I put a lot of torque on it trying to get it out and quit because I thought It would break off in the manifold. Have you ever had one or heard of one breaking off?
@Buttons_fix_it
@Buttons_fix_it 11 месяцев назад
I have never had one break off in the manifold, can't say I've heard of it first hand either, but I've definitely been afraid it would happen!! I don't mention in the video but sometimes use a torch for heat. But I'm always EXTREMELY careful about what's in the area around so nothing lights on fire. Lastly I've seen people pick another area and weld on a threaded bung for a new sensor when an old one is abandoned in place. I've never done that myself though. Good luck!!!!

For R&R steps 1) hear up the bolt with a small torch 2) cut off the wire as close as you can 3) put wD40 or other oil on sensor threads 4) use a 22mm chrome socket like Snap on or MAC. 5) slowly apply pressure on the sensor with a long racket 6) if still stuck tighten and loosen the bolt and repeat all steps. 7) it will eventually come off.

LOL by that time might as well use y 18" pipe wrench!

I've rounded a few off with pipe wrenches, maybe they just didn't have aggressive enough teeth. Thanks for commenting!

Except you destroyed the threads? Another video warns that the moment it begins to break loose start spraying penetrent and go back and forth VERY slowly on the wrenches just keep spraying so your threads are not utterly galled
@Buttons_fix_it

Yes agree that working it back and forth with penetrant is a great way to preserve the threads. I probably should have done that on my truck. I did use one of this O2 sensor thread chasers to clean up the pipe before re-installing the new sensor. So far seems to be working good. Thanks!
