i picked up the lidl ultimate speed ULGD 5.0 few days ago and its the C1 revision. what iv noticed compared to the A1 variant is that the C1 runs a lot cooler, barely warms up and its voltage display is more accurate than the A1 version. well worth it for the money.
I have the same battery charger from Lidl which I am using as we speak.i lost the manual so found your video. You explained it very well and answered any questions I had.Thank you, A very good video and my compliments on your English 👍
Good review cheers. I agree that if your battery has only 2-3 volts in it these smart chargers will not charge. What I did was, I hooked up my battery jump pack a couple of times for 20-30 seconds each time and it brought the charge in my battery up enough to be able to set a 'mode' on the charger and away it went.
Issue there you cant have it dual voltage, smart, and able to recover severly discharged batteries at the same time at least not easily. And if its not smart (lets you override the charging logic) someone will try to charge 6V battery as 12V and it will boil off all the acid or explode in their face and Lidl gets sued.
Good review. Very helpful. I tried one of these on a sealed lead battery that was unused but had been left to go flat. Another simple charger would charge it up (not to 12V though), but attaching this would then discharge it again slowly. Strange. If it's under the sufficient charge level to "recharge" a flat batter, it only flashes the voltage & does not allow you to change modes.
@@UltimateDIY Thanks, you're the expert! Strange, I left it overnight & it dropped from 7.9 (with a simple charger) to about 3 with the ULGD. Now I get the "Err" option but not beforehand. In short, I think the claim to recharge flat batteries are exaggerated! The ULGD still works with another battery I have. I've just never seen a battery discharge with a charger attached! Unfortunately, I was not able to get to this one for 18 months + due to Covid.
These are smart chargers. If they detect a defective battery they will not charge it. At 3V a battery is defective and nothing will bring it back, sadly. Even if you force it to charge, it will not hold the charge.
I'm having this problem today. The answer is to connect another car battery to the dead one and leave it for about an hour. This will put some charge into the dead battery so the electronics in the charger will work.
Great video again, I think that I've watched every single video that you've done on your b8. I was wondering if you had any problem by not disconnecting the battery from the car as the manual says. I would like to purchase a battery charger for my b8.5 as well but I am afraid of frying any electrical part of the car. As you said in the video, it's a pain in the .. to disconnect that battery every single time you want to charge it
Thanks! I honestly have no clue, but I think about it like this. As long as you can jumpstart the car with another car or a lithium battery jumpstarter, I think using such a charger should be ok. If it's not...time will tell.
Honestly the charging indication could improve. I didn't even know if it was working until few minutes have passed and the voltage started to raise. Yes I read the freaking manual. Yes the battery symbol is blinking but it made no sound I didn't have to press anything to actually start it. Just put it into car mode and it starts automatically. Very awkward.
Man I’m lucky I ran across this, I was trying to charge a Varta AGM battery on the car mode but I’m supposed to put it on the snow ❄️ mode for it to charge properly. What a headache lol
Hi, in what mode should you put in if you are going to maintenance charging your car battery? I am not going to drive my car for 6 month during the winter time.
Hey man - does just connecting the cables but not clicking anything display the current vattery voltage? Mine just finished charging, showing around 12.5 and a full battery, but when I reconnect it, it shows 10.3 🤔
Can you help me please. I bought a new Motorcycle battery before winter. Then I took it out and stored at home. Every month for about 4 months, I powered it with this one to full. When spring came, I put battery in moto...and won't start. Bought new one, got to go. Am I doing something wrong with maintainig? Ty 😊
Sorry, but I am not familiar with moto bateries. If it were a car battery, I would say it had a problem from the start. It should not have died in 4 months, even if you charged it only once, not to mention 4 times. Just think for how long a battery waits in a store before it gets bought and it's still ok. Or, maybe your charger is defective and somehow damaged it, but never heard about something like this.
Good question, but I don't have an answer. Some say it's ok, others that it's not. For me, it seems to work and I had no problems. But, I never power on the car when the charger is connected. Maybe this is important 🤷🏻♂️
I had to replace the body control module on my Fiat 500 after charging with the battery still connected to the car. Can't say for certain that was the cause, of course. Thankfully, I was able to get a used unit reprogrammed otherwise it would have cost more than the car's value for the replacement.
Sorry, but I don't remember exactly. From what I recall, I started one day and it took until next day. So, between 12 and 24. And this is how I learned that my battery was quite discharged and short trips in the city did not properly charge it.
That I have no clue. Normally I'm thinking the aftermarket battery itself should have some electronics that handle the charging, because the bike probably treats the battery as a lead acid one. So it might work, but might also fail with fire and explosions.
battery revive doesnt ¨revive¨ but it will smack enough power in to your dead battery for you to start and go and buy a new battery... also, takes a day and a half to charge... goes crazy with deep cycle batteries... thanks for sharing buddy.
Nothing can really revive an internally damaged battery. And staying discharged under a certain voltage for too long will do internal damage. About the charging time, just do a quick calculation. For an 100Ah battery that is 50% discharged it will take a theoretical 10 hours at 5 amps to charge it. But that will never happen, in reality it will be about 15 hours maybe due to loses and current variation.
@@MarinTheFirestarter i left mine charging one of my cars at my office overnight and no problem, it didtake almost a couple of days to charge an empty battery. mine got stolen out of my camper tongue box so couldnt try it more :(
Yes when the battery is full then the charger turns off and goes into stand by, when the voltage on battery drops the charger turns ON and start to charge again@@MarinTheFirestarter
Depends a huge lot on the capacity of the battery and the starting charge level. Not possible to tell clear numbers. But, as an idea, for a really discharged and big battery it can take even close to 24h. For a small and not so discharged battery, maybe a few hours.
When you hold down the button (there is only one on the device), it shows the charging current on the 12v battery, and on the 6v battery... I don't know, but it seems to me that some kind of pulse charging starts? Has anyone tried it?
@@amonty2005 yes it has that program and desulfatisation program starts when the battery voltage is 7.5v, then the impulse is going to 10.8v, then it starts with motorcycle mode (but you can change it to car mode) And yes the voltage is blinking indicating that the desulfatisation mode is ON It will do the job! And last thing, if the battery voltage is below 7.0v the charger shows error If it helps just jump it with another battery or old non smart charger to above 7.5v then reconnect lidl charger. The lidl and kaufland charger are the same, just another name (ultimate speed and my project)
@@UltimateDIY I have tested this two times now and it always continued charge with normal (car) setting which is okay no need to push any buttons. (When it is connected to battery permanently.)
