Thank you for this inspiring review. I was demoing numerous speaker brands for many months now without much success as many if not all of them seem like "boy toys", and above all have a certain "color" to them. This discovery has not only prevented me from purchasing a brand speaker but has left me just plain disheartening in the pursuit of nice audio. Nothing out there is neutral "flat" and uncolored it seems...until I discovered Amphion. Problem is: no body near me sells them and worse, I don't believe in buying a speaker without a proper demo, but with the Amphion Philosophy and my listening desires, I think I will make an exception. A question I have: Are both the Helium 502 and Argon 7L keep somewhat the same frequency plot, in other words, do they share close to the same characteristics? I understand since different materials are used on the drivers they will probably be different to a degree, but is that degree large? Will the Helium allow me to experience the sound holistically in various positions in the room as the Aragon will? If I end up getting the 502's how far out from the rear wall should I remove them. I am going to try to get the Argon 7Ls however, which seems very easy to place. A question about pairing: If these speakers are said to be neutral or "flat" what brand integrated amps are a good marriage. I see you talk about Hegel, but they may be a bit too much for me at this time. What do you think about: Peachtree Nova 300? Parasound? Yamaha 2200? NAD? Naim? Currently I have a vintage mint condition Mitsubishi DAA15DC that I will probably start out with than upgrade to a better integrated or amp brand. LASTLY: Prices. It's weird on the Amphion site the speakers are going for less than what some retailers are selling them for here in the US. I guess I can always try to talk them down. Any suggestions. Stay Safe. i hear both them.for me the character different. 7ls more smooth and good for long listening session with neutral but helium i dont know if its a little "bright" compare to 7ls.i think 7ls is another league.
I just auditioned the Argon 3LS and Helium520 through a Yamaha 2200. The Helium were not memorable at all - sound stage was ok but not wide and not closed up. They struggled with complex passages of music. However vocals were quite good and un-muffled. The Argon are a different story - very good bass extension, forward kind of sound stage, didn't struggle with complexity and remained quite articulate but they are thirsty. To get them going I really had to turn it up on the Yamaha.
