Wow! With only 13 thousand something miles and a new battery, it really is a new car. Congratulations! I just took delivery of a 2023 Bolt EV and I'm in love with it. It took me a day or two to master one pedal drive mode. I hardly ever use the brakes. I'm currently waiting for my level 2 outlet install provided by a Bolt EV promotion. For now I'm using a 110 outlet in my garage. I'm trying everything in my power to avoid public charging. Luckily I have a gas car as well. It's a 2013 Chevy Spark with more than 300 thousand miles. Not kidding lol. Gr8 vid. 🚙 🇺🇸 🔌

Was the promotion for the Level 2 install, something that was offered in cooperation with your state or the dealership you bought from? I'm not aware of any Level 2 install promotion, that would apply to used Bolt's ? (Your 2023 Bolt was considered used right?)
@WestCoastChicano
@WestCoastChicano 6 месяцев назад
@@flolou8496 I bought my Bolt new. The promotion is from GM. As for used Bolts, the promotion does not apply. The outlet for the charger is what is actually installed. However, I'm sure that the electrician that comes to your house to install the outlet will also mount your charger.

Wow so you guys were in my neck of the woods and I test drove that very car at Laria Chevrolet. I love the Bolt. I had to pass at the time I test drove the vehicle due to monthly payments being more than what I wanted. I did rent a 2023 Bolt Euv for a week to try it out and will make a used Bolt my next car. Since 2024 the EV tax credit moves to point of sale at dealerships it makes the purchase even more rewarding. Thanks for the review.

good video and good buy. The fastest charging for the Bolt is 10% - 55%. So for trips I'd start at 100% and during the trip charge from 10% - 55% which is roughly every 100 miles or every 2 hours.

I watch videos like this and they are mostly interesting but then some parts make me think "why". Doing a "race" between a Tesla and a Bolt is silly. Clearly the Bolt charges much slower compared to the Tesla. I don't own a Bolt yet but I have owned a Chevy Spark EV which has the same charging speed as the Bolt. Also people keep calling the Bolt a "commuter" or a "city" car and that's just 100% false. The Bolt can be local and long distant. I'll choose a Bolt over a Tesla any day. Decent video though but people who don't own an EV or don't know much about them then this gives the anti EV people more fuel to throw on the anti ev fire!

Thanks for watching and commenting! I see your point that racing a bolt against a tesla needlessly puts the bolt down, but I like to focus on how well it did do against the tesla for less than half the price! I mainly found it super interesting that the bolts range and efficiency was nearly matching the Tesla, and the car is almost as good if it weren't for the achilles heel of the charging speed!

I live in the metro Detroit area. Did you find a good price on a level 2 charger nema 14-50 plug? I quoted a few and they were around $1k. Our house is new construction and can easily handle a new 220 volt plug, according to my qmerit quote.
@batteryblade
@batteryblade 8 месяцев назад
I wired the outlet myself for a $400 install cost for a 60ft run, most expensive part is the wire which was $300. $1000 sounds reasonable if your run is 100ft or greater I would estimate $600 material cost max and so keep in that in mind if the extra $400 is worth it to you for a better job than what you could do yourself. It wasn't for me but I imagine it probably would be worth it to alot of people, I do have a old video on my channel of me installing it. If you runs less than 100ft than your paying for mostly labor! Ps if you just bought a new bolt GM has a program where they will pay for the install, I don't have any first hand experience with that though!

Sorry to hear that! Yeah tesla is notorious for overestimating its battery range. They are beautiful, excellent, efficient cars, but when tesla states the range of a car its probably exaggerated by 10%. The bolt probably does not intentionally overestimate its range. You should talk more about whethervthe bolt is fun to drive, how peppy it is on yhe highway,, how it handles in snow, how the creature comforts are, how you adapt a tesla home charger to charge your bolt.
@batteryblade
@batteryblade 5 месяцев назад
Thanks for your great suggestion if your subscribed I promise you will see a Bolt EV review at some point, but I will give you a spoiler that the car is super peppy and fun to drive with so much power for its size with a very tight steering it feels like a superchargered go-kart! Let me tell you the looks don't do its performance justice as it's definitely a hot hatch, much much faster than my previous 2012 Hyundai Veloster.
@PeterJames143
@PeterJames143 5 месяцев назад
wow thank you so much. I've been in the hunt for a tesla for years and my wife gives me grief about all the time I spend on the tesla inventory page, and I have a reason to want an EV not a gas car (I calculated the monthly gas cost of my planned commute to over $300), but the financial implications of buying a 24k minimum car are really bothering me because I want to get out of debt not go into more debt. I'm thinking about a bolt. I feel like the tesla is almost within reach. I do have a couple of issues, that bolts always seem to have low miles which I kind of take to mean the owner didn't like it and got rid of it, and the other issue is that the dealers always price in the used EV incentive so I'm a bit concerned about the tax implications for me of buying one. But otherwise it honestly seems like I almost have to buy one if I want to open the door to the regular daily commutes I want to do down to the Detroit area. It's almost a no-brainer, but so much so that it seems too good to be true. It's a little bit hard to give up the dream of getting a tesla also. I kind of want the anonymity of buying a Bolt also. Buying a Tesla is like a pretty grand statement in my neighborhood, nobody has one and I'm not sure I want the attention. Sorry I'm a bit confused about the situation. I talked to a dealer today. Now I believe I understand why you put the bolt in your own name rather than your parents'. The price changes by about 25% based on what my income is. For $16,990 I have to think about it. At $12,990 it was a steal. I'm not sure if it's rational of me to have second thoughts, given that the bolt has fewer than 30k miles and a comparable Tesla would be at least 10k more than 17k. Thanks for the videos.@@batteryblade

I am wondering about the snow performance also. Not that we actually get much snow in Michigan anymore anyway. But FWD and more weight in front than a tesla. I'm sure it's fine, I've heard no real complaints about it. Probably not as good as a tesla, but I'll be content to slip a little bit in the 2 snow days a year while thinking about the additional $20,000 I don't have to repay to some banker. I have a charger in my house that I installed for a tesla, a nema 14-50 plug with a tesla charger attached (I bought a Tesla mobile connector for about $230 and installed the nema 14-50 myself close to the panel) , so I'm ready for a tesla. I hope I don't have to buy a whole new charger for another few hundred bucks to charge the bolt. I'm hoping there's some kind of cheap adapter that works pretty well, and I'm wondering about your experience with that.@@batteryblade
@batteryblade
@batteryblade 5 месяцев назад
@@PeterJames143 Snow performance is overall good on the bolt, here are some negatives I can think of is the Michelle all season tires that the car comes with don't seem great for the winter and I have not bothered with a winter pair which I believe would significantly improve traction! My biggest negative is just that I'm so used to the bolts extreme speed and being able to pull out quickly and during the winter time if there is ice under the vehicle and you need to pull out the car has alot of trouble moving forwards because of the cars extreme weight and little traction due to the thin tires on ice, which do get good getting traction under snow. But I like that the bolt is FWD unlike the base model 3 which is RWD and overall the tesla long range awd is just not anywhere close to the price point if a Bolt! See next comment for charger answer

@@PeterJames143 Your charging situation sound very well prepared, I'm glad you have it taken care of before getting the car! I have alot of experience with tesla to j1772 adapters because my charging setup is tesla wall connectors, I installed for a model 3 before buying the bolt. I have tried out probably 8 different adapters some were sent to me for free so I probably have a adapter to give you if you ever wanted to pick it up, or if you don't want to meet a stranger off the internet, my favorite adapter I have tried is the Evdance mini design which is small enough you can also fit it in your glovebox for any tesla destination chargers. It costs $100 on their website and you could use my code BLADE for a 5% discount but there are definitely cheaper adapters out there for closer to $50 which would also work but I'm not going to recommend those because had a actual broken adapter sent to me which locking mechanism feel apart completely in my hand. Also note any adapters with a generic red locking tab don't lock properly as I realized I can pull my tesla cord right out of adapter while charging. Also another thing to consider is that DTE which is my power company in michigan has a $500 EV charger incentive that they will refund you the price of a evse if you wanted to just get a wall mounted unit and keep the mobile connector and adapter in the vehicle with you. Btw DTE also has a $1,500 ev incentive on top of that too! I hope you found some of this helpful, i also could definitely recommend mounted units if you are interested in the DTE incentive. here is the link to the evdance adapter which is a affiliate link btw but I honestly like their design the best tbh. evdances.com/collections/ev-adapters/products/tesla-to-j1772-charging-adapter-by-evdance

The bolt makes a good second car. It should be way more efficient than the Tesla considering its size, battery chemistry and form factor, but GM chose to make it steel frame and didn't use the best motors or inverters which really hurt it. The Tesla on the other hand being all aluminum is mostly hurt by it's size and people may not know this, but the Auto-pilot/ADAS is always on and always using about 250-300W. I'm glad it doesn't turn off though, because the car took over once and swerved outta the way for a wrong way driver. Saved me from a dangerous accident!

I almost bought a Bolt from that dealership. They left out some pertinent information on my initial visit regarding the 'Branded Title' of the Bolt I was looking at. Most 'normal' banks won't lend at more than 50-60% of the price of the vehicle nor will most insurances insure it at 100% of value. Wasn't worth it. I ended up buying a 'Clean Title' used Bolt from Steinle GMC near the EA charging station you used on the way back. I'm curious, what are your thoughts on the Bolt after 7 months? How does it compare to the Model 3?

Yes my bolt qualifys for used tax credit. The dealer gave me the proper paperwork to file for it, most used Bolts qualify for the 4k tax credit as long as they are sold by a dealer and are under 25k and haven't had someone else claim the used tax credit yet. Just be aware used tax credit is under the stricter income cap compare to the new EV 7.5k tax credit.

Just curious, did the dealer offer in any way to reduce the purchase price 4K because of the Federal Tax Credit? (I've heard of this being done in some instances, often times the 4K going towards the downpayment, while the rest is financed:

I bought the car before the tax credit was allowed upfront, I was offered the paperwork to receive it during tax season. Now looking on autotrader and other car buying websites the dealerships are advertising the chevy bolts with the 4k tax credit already applied to the price, but just be aware that you need to actually be eligible to receive the benefit otherwise the IRS will come after you and not the dealership, is so far what I have been hearing!
