It helped for two reasons. First it allowed people to breathe fresh air instead of being in a room with other sick people breathing each other's infected air. Second, being in sunlight allows the body to make vitamin D which is important to the immune system. It was also done for the Spanish Flu pandemic.

Honestly, if we are at a point where we are depending on the sun {UV} to sanitize our water supply, I'm not worried about the leaching plastic. {It's in everything anyway} I bought a hand pump online at Amazon for under $40 bucks, with 25 ft of well drilling pipe. Here in Florida, we hit water anywhere from 2ft down, to about 10ft. The hand pump can't bring up more than 25ft. It's kinda small. However, it's water. It's still not as clean as I would want, basically ground water, but it's better than nothing. I'm deed restricted for almost everything, but the well is hidden in the back yard in the middle of the flowers! Check them out if you can. Only buy the cast iron!

@@dragonslayer7587 you can make a filtering system with a 5 gallon bucket, 3/8 tubing, a fitting and refrigerator filter. Then you use gravity to filter the water from the bucket through the refrigerator filter. I got 4 refrigerator filters for $50 that filter down to 0.5 microns. You need the type with two nipples, one is input the other is out. You can use just the filter and tube like a life straw if you need. The filters last up to 300 gallons. I also have a berkey type system, life straws, a full water filtration system on a wagon I'm building. I also have some berkey replacement filters and I'm getting some food grade buckets from Home depot to make my own bucket berkey system. When it comes to water I'm covered. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 I can't afford MRE's though. I got a slingshot and fishing poles, I'm getting a blow gun next. @@termodog7951 Yeah most people don't know that there are literally underground rivers that run from the Mountains, down through Georgia all the way to the panhandle of Florida. The rivers are part of what causes all of the sinkholes in the panhandle of Florida. There is tons of fresh water all along that line, springs all the way down. Here in Northeast Georgia I have a spring fed stream running through my property. There are springs all over around here, we are in the foothills of the mountains.

Steve, as a suggestion, lying the bottles on the shiny side of a sheet of aluminum foil will increase the amount of UV penetrating the bottles. UV does reflect off of foil. This might increase the efficiency -- and thereby reduce the time -- by 10-20%. And every little bit helps in a survival scenario.

In a serious water shortage…5 gallons is a luxury. We’ve been working on ways to save water for in case..like building a mobile outhouse over the septic tank. Inside can use used dish water to flush. I order these huge boxes of Huggies wipes..cucumber and green tea….from Sams…(on sale right now) a person can take a bath with those. We have the 250 gallon water tanks and catch rain water. I have all kinds of purification and filter stuff. Our property has a creek on 3 sides. We live in the woods…so can always boil water. And still…water is the one thing I worry the most about. many years ago I read in a military survival book "The U.S. Armed Forces Survival Manual", (great read btw), that when you actually do find water and purify it in whatever way, drink as much of it as you can if you're in a hot climate because your body can store water. most people might not know this.

If you are staying in one location, but you are out of water, you can easily PRODUCE pure drinking water (distilled actually) with minimal supplies, if the sun is shining. Dig a shallow pit. In the center, place a bowl or jar. Cover pit with plastic (clear, black, any color). Heap dirt around the edge to hold it in place. Place a small rock above jar. All the plastic slopes towards the jar. As the sun warms the soil below, condensation will form on the inner surface of the plastic, and drip into the jar. Distilled water! Many pits - gallons of water. This can also work at night if the air temperature dips a significant amount below the soil temperature.

Dry Fasting is the most amazing thing your body can do. And the reason you can live that long without water is 2 reasons. Number 1, eating food takes massive amounts of water to process. Number 2, and the most remarkable, your body was created so complex, it can physically make H²O out of the oxygen you breathe and the Hydrogen stored in your fat cells. It's incredible and a testament to how wonderfully made we are. Our bodies can do miraculous things. Like heal itself and create water. And dry fasting has amazing effects of healing, cleaning your liver & kidneys and even reversing disease. But the key is, if you don't have water nor any way to make water, don't eat anything at all and your body goes in to emergency mode and makes conditions and chemical reactions to keep you alive longer.

This reminds me of how popular 'sun tea' was in SoCal during the 1970s. Of course everybody had access to indoor appliances to heat their water for tea, so I'm not sure what all the hubbub was about. But after the process you talked about and the water is clean, you could make some of that. People would need to do a search for how long the water needs to stay in the sun once the bag(s) are in. 🤗🇲🇽

I’ve been doing the same thing with those 2 liter bottles for months. I wash the bottles out with hot water and soap. Then fill the bottle up halfway then add a TSP of unscented bleach. I add the cap and shake the water around for 15 sec. Then if you’re doing multiple bottles, just pour the bleach water into another bottle and do the sane thing and sanitize it. Then empty and rinse out the bottle and you’re set. Now fill the 2 litter bottle with water and set it in a cool place where no direct sunlight with hit them. Store them for 6 months to over a year. But if you decide to leave it longer. You can filter the water with a Berkey filters system. RU-vid: DIY Berkey Filter . That’s what I made and have. P.S. if you can get those 2 liters plastic soda holders will help in stacking. Check your local beer distributor. Stay safe

Great video! I know this will be controversial but... Hubby worked for a company that used a lot of hydrologic oil in five gallon buckets. He brought a lot home so we opened as many up as would fit under the edge of our carport. We did it right before a rain. The rain would clean the buckets for us. We just left them until no oil remained. We don't plant anything there so we don't mind if the oil gets onto the ground in that spot. We don't spray anything like herbicides so we figured it would keep the weeds down and wouldn't be any worse than spraying. Nope. The weeds still grow there. The buckets themselves are food grade. I use the water after the oil is gone to water plants. I've also planted in the cleaned out buckets. We have to use what we have and that's what we have. I kinda figure that we don't use pesticides or herbicides so it's probably not any worse than the food at the grocery store. Anyway, I thought I would share that. Because if someone has access to whatever kind of buckets they want to use, a carport sheds a lot of water. It can fill a lot of containers in a little rain shower.

Really like this new channel, Steve. Thanks so much for the good info! I use plastic leak proof lids on canning jars to store the calcium hypochlorite. Then have it inside a cardboard box to be sure it never gets near metal. Keep it dry and cool.
