This RV generator is "quieter than a conversation." It can run at levels as low as 52 decibels. Trust us, your RV neighbors won't be knocking on your door to complain about generator noise! We share how much this generator can handle, price breakdowns, and much more.
Join us today as we take our camper off-grid to boondock with our ultra quiet RV generator. We continue our mini series of documenting our expenses through the state of California. Being able to take an RV boondocking can help save you a ton of money...but at what cost? Well, we can happily say it won't cost $15,000 - Unlike some solar and lithium battery setups!

You did it again. Great video with info to be gleaned by everyone. Your experiences on the road and full timing help everyone whether full time part time or just starting off. Keep it up and keep ‘em coming. Also remember, return on investment can be more than just money. Time, convenience, and having coffee for Ney Ney in the mornings count for something. Thanks Hanks!

We’ve had our EU3000is for 7 years 8 months. Used it for hurricane season, State and National parks and last year for boon docking most of 80 days out west. It’s a great complement to our 1000w solar generator. BTW in Yellowstone the ranger came around with a db meter. He told me he hates to do it but he will request campers to shut down if they are too loud. Glad our Honda has a 48db-56db range w/ 3.5 gal gas tank. Also we love your channel. We had separation anxiety during our 80 day trip not being able to continue to watch your Alaska trip 😊

Great video. Nice information on the Honda generator. It was good to hear the difference between regular and eco mode. Man is that thing quiet!!! I think not having to worry if you are using too much battery power when dry camping is worth every penny you spend on a generator. For me it isn't, "Will I recoup the cost by not staying at campgrounds." It is the freedom to go further and stay longer without worry. Priceless! Major props for the communication between the two of you when backing the rig!!! Nice job Renee, being constantly on the radio, so your driver knows exactly what you are seeing.

We are one of the RV owners (2019 Unity FX) who took the plunge for the expensive solar and lithium set up. We did this for a couple or reasons. 1) we boondock a lot. Most of our overnights are at Harvest Host or other boon docking sites. 2) with the small class C we are limited on storage space so packing away solar panels would be difficult. Having them on the roof solves this. 3) There are many times when we are only at a location for a night or two. I don’t want the extra work and hassle of set up and tear down. And 5). The federal tax code has a very nice credit for installing solar systems on 1st and 2nd homes. RV’s qualify. Different strokes for different folks, as you are, we are very happy with our set up.

In June of 2023 we headed out on a month long trip from Michigan to South Dakota and Wyoming and back. Taking a different route to and from. Towing a Grand Design Imagine 22reb with a GMC elevation 4x4 truck. Our fuel bill was just over 1000.00 dollars. We boomdocked when possible,stayed in state parks and one hotel cabin campground at the foot of the Badlands. Like you staying in one spot and doing day trip that were an hour or two hour destinations. The cost of this trip was about 3500 which included fun and gifts for family. After seeing your video on your yearly expenses, I realized full-time wouldn't be possible without selling the sticks and bricks. This season for us this year is having a seasonal site from May 1st to Oct 16th for 1870.00 with plenty of fun things to do in the surrounding area. We enjoy your videos so much. I love the honesty and the humor!!!❤

I bought 2 eu2200i’s and LOVE them! I bought them just before ac softstart really started taking off. With 1 ac and a softstart, I now only need 1 of my genes for my 50amp Outdoors RV TT on the road. I only boondock as I REFUSE to spend $50+ at an rv park unless I’ve had a REALLY long travel day and want to splurge for the hookups. A ton of people are very opinionated about other gene’s being as good as Hondas. Nope. The facts are out there, Honda is top quality with a HUGE longevity span and absolutely worth the investment!

Wow - I've had that broken spring experience - a 17' Kit trailer, behind a 1969 Ford Station Wagon. Trailer rocked so hard it caved in the left front corner from impacting the road. This was a long dirt road heading from Williams Lake (BC, Canada) to Kamloops, or maybe we were still on the way to Williams Lake. - it was a long time ago - I think I was 7 or 8. Got it fixed in a little town that had a barn turned into garrage/gas station and a tiny general store/post office.

😅I have a 3500 watt inverter/generator everyone talks about from the discount tool store and I’m satisfied with its performance, but it is heavy and repairs are difficult. Spare parts are not available locally and small engine repair shops will ask you to take it back home. The Honda 3200 watt is light weight and portable…my wife can easily move it. If the Honda needs service, parts are readily available and repair locations are easily found. The Honda doubles as a power source for our house during our frequent and sometimes very long winter power outages and the 3500 watt unit stays at home to power the very far detached garage/workshop during those storms. You made a good choice.

I bought a used Honda 1000 generator off Ebay and it's survived 2 or 3 years powering our theme camp at Burning Man and saved our a$$ during at least 3 major power failures ( and a lot of short ones ) in Northern California ( thanks PG & E ). Great generators. That said, we are going 100% solar on our current Sprinter van - 810 AH of Battleborn batteries and no gennie. That's even quieter - but we don't have as many things to run in our van as you have.

Great campsite! We have 2 Wen generators. They are comparable to the Honda. We got 2 for ease of mobility. We can use one to power the camper and charge our deep cycle battery, but daisy-chain them if we need to run the air conditioner. They have worked fine for our needs. Having 2 is reassuring if one of them would fail when we need them. Happy camping 😊.

Grab a small piece of plywood to sit the generator on, that way it doesn’t vibrate in the gravel and move around. It always helps keep the bottom from getting all scratched and gouged. I’ve been using this trick since 2001 when I bought my first Honda genny.

We are also one of those with fancy boondocking RV types (Winnebago Ekko). I got ours with the dual 320AH batteries/generator delete. Plus it has 455 watts of solar on the roof and I carry a portable 200-Watt folding panel. Depending on our trip (climate/off roading), I have the option of bringing our Honda 2200i portable generator. I have had it for around 4 years and it has been a champ. In my opinion, well worth the extra $$ plus there are Honda dealers everywhere for service and parts. It can run our AC unit with extra power for lights and charging the batteries. I do use the Huges Power Watchdog surge protector with it for added protection. The 3200 is a sweet machine and love the blue tooth capability.

Ya know, I have come to realize by camping, that logical efficient energy use requires multiple sourcing to make financial sense. So many think of it as an all or nothing from each source- all solar/battery or all electrics etc. I have redundant systems to use depending on what I have available and your video confirms that ideology. It just makes sense. Nice generator. Years ago I bought a Yamaha 2400 and it has been great. That Honda is a great power range for campers.

I wish these quiet small generators were available back in the day when the kids were small and we were "boondocking" with our 19-ft camp trailer behind our F-250 (we called it 'CAMPING' back then) out in the woods in dispersed (undeveloped) campsites along creeks or in Forest Service campgrounds that don't ever never ever have hook-ups. We lived our Friday nite - Sunday morning camp trips nursing along the two batteries we had (no solar back then, of course) - perhaps plugging into the truck if necessary to put a boost into them to get by. "Portable" generators back then were heavy and loud and the sort of thing that you didn't want take along unless you absolutely needed to...which we didn't...

I’ve had a Honda 2200, its 15 years old. It had been without use for four years straight, I drained fuel and oil, put new spark plugs and the thing turned on without skipping a heart beat. One tank lasts a long time and it’s super quiet. Honda is top of the line, off brands may use the same engine but they will always be behind the latest Honda.

For a typical 13,500 BTU RV AC, it's perfect. I've had my Yamaha EF3000iseb (3000 watt with a "boost" from the battery to carry the AC start load) for years and it was perfect. But It's over 150 pounds. This Honda EU3200 is not even 60 pounds for the same power. That's fantastic. Granted my Yamaha has a 3.5 gallon tank and will run continuously for roughly 18 hours, but for overnight, the 8 hour runtime on this Honda is great.

I don't know about RV's but driving washboard roads in pickups and cars you have to speed up and at a certain speed, somewhere between 20 to 40 mph depending on how bad the road is, the ride becomes perfectly smooth. Lived in the Mojave Desert most of my life and I know what I'm saying. Had to drive almost one mile of washboard to leave or arrive home for 18 years. You'd think the ride would be smoother if you go real slow but that is when its the worst. Life is interesting.

It’s amazing how reliant people are for electricity when camping now. You do need a decent 12 volt system but not for 110 AC. We use one of two alternators to recharge the house batteries and also some solar. I built a 110 volt power bank in an old cooler with a pure sine inverter and lithium batteries.

Same. I have the firman 4500. Always run it off my 30lb tank and never use gasoline so I can store it anywhere. $599 at Costco. Runs a/c and everything else I throw at it.

I bought a Jackery solar generator. There is no sound at all, and I plug in my camper into it. It came with two 200-watt solar panels. Plus, it has . technology, so when mooch docking, I can plug into a household outlet. Then plug RV into generator. Because there are no emissions, I can use it inside the camper. That way, I can plug in only the thing I need to use when Boondocking. Or I can plug in my Instapot (stap it down) and slow cook dinner on travel days. Best of all, the generator can be changed 3 ways solar, 110-120v, or 12v plug in truck while traveling. It's a little heavy, but I can lift it into the truck or camper myself, and I'm a 67yr woman. Oh, it has wheels, too.

I'm actually thinking of going the route of the solar generator. I saw one of the brand new models on RU-vid the other day I cannot remember the name of it. But in the demonstration the guy hooked it up to his house turned off the power and ran his house on it for a night and it never ran out of juice running all of his utilities. And it comes with more than just 2 solar panels worth of power., You can even get a second battery bank for it. And it's 6 on top of the batteries, One battery plugs into the next 1 and that battery plugs into the unit. Though all 3 together are heavy. But I could always just Leave it in The camper or the back seat of the pickup And just run the lines outside as needed.

Great video, but always unhook, if you have a catastrophic (fire) issue with either vehicle, the last thing you'll want to do is try to save your ride or your home. Leaving you stranded in the desert with neither. Safety 1st!

Nice choice! I got an EU2200i and love it, especially love the Bluetooth. The most dependable, reliable and quiet generator on the market, and it'll LONG outlast cheaper brands like the Predator, you get what you pay for!

We went with a Generac iq3500. Its 90 lbs but we leave it in the truck to keep it locked up and then level the generator with wedges. It runs our 15k AC, and all appliances we bring. It has a larger fuel tank, but depending on the load it will run up to 18 hours or so. It's got 423 hours and still running like new.

Hi! I just got a generator and was wondering how to lock it up in my truck. If you don’t mind can you please let me know a little more details and that, I didn’t know what you meant by leveling the generator? Thanks in advance.
@snowbaordguru
@snowbaordguru 2 месяца назад
We use a large gauge chain meant for heavy duty work (hardened). and a large padlock to lock it to the tie down anchors in the bed. 10 feet cost almost $90. As far as leveling the generator, I meant when we are parked on an out of level surface. Our camper has spent 99% of it's life boondocking at WMA's or Natl. Forest service land and it's rarely ever naturally level. We use wedges under the feet of the generator to make it completely level front to back and side to side. If you don't, your oil pick up system may starve the motor of oil because all the oil is sloshed to one side.@@kristenpoe4967

@kristenpoe4967 My original comment is not here anywhere, apologies if it shows up twice. We use a large gauge hardened chain and padlock that is locked to our tie down anchors in the truck bed. 10 feet cost about $80 and that length allows me to move it around the truck bed wherever I want. I level the generator in the truck bed before we run it after setting up. The truck isn't always on level ground. Running your generator out of level could cause it to run hotter or cause oil starvation as the oil is sloshed to one side of the oil pan.

Ok, a couple of quick questions about the generator people might need to know. 1 How long does the oil last in it. 2. Do you need to change the oil filter every oil change? 3. How easy and how hard is it?. 4. Can you do a video on it to show what it is like and what to watch out for?
@bobmirror7164
@bobmirror7164 16 дней назад
So my Honda Eu2000 and Eu1000 generators have on oil filters. It is recommended to change the oil every 100 hours, if I remember correctly. So about every 10 tanks of fuel put it on a 6 inch brick, take the oil cap off and tilt it over so the oil can run out into a wast oil pan. Replenish with about a quart of oil, READ THE MANUAL. Down load the manual for the generator you purchase and read it.

Brake chatter like you heard is from the brakes adjusting. Trailer brakes only auto adjust while backing up. In reverse they chatter or skip and vibrate and that’s what operates the adjuster.

They didn’t go over the Grapevine, they were on highway 58 and went over the Tehachapi grade at 4000 feet. The Grapevine is Interstate 5 and runs North and South. These people left Bakersfield and headed EAST on highway 58, and 40 miles later they went through TEHACHAPI Ca. and toward Barstow Ca. You’re welcome.😂🤣

I believe what you have is called an Inverter not a generator. Generators run at a constant speed regardless or the draw on them so the noise is loud and steady. Inverters at low or no draw run slower and quiet with the speed and noise increasing as the draw put on it increases. However even at maximum draw they are more quiet than generators!

What? Are u confusing an inverter generator to an inverter?
@sbditto85
@sbditto85 2 месяца назад
Inverters has to do with how it cleans the power to be a more perfect sign wave instead of spiking. My understanding is that many generators have an “eco mode” where it will go to a lower RPM when the draw is low.
@johnnysweekends
@johnnysweekends 2 месяца назад
A inverter “generator” is all in how it makes its power. Normal generator is normally modified wave. Inverter Gen is pure sine wave. A inverter Gen makes power in Ac, converts it to DC and then inverts it back to clean AC power. Which is needed more and more. And yes they throttle up and down as needed. 😀👍🏼
