It is allowed but they want you to use the ones provided for you on the mound. They do not want you to be able to put a foreign substance on your hand in the dugout and try to claim it as rosin.
@Trey & Laren nobody said you can't criticize but most ppl act like they are supposed to be perfect. Why not just get rid of umpires? Then ppl like you will have to find something else to cry about
@@robertgadling7217 is that really the best comeback? I wouldn't have wasted my time. A legal substance is a legal substance in MLB. If it's a legal substance, why interject yourself in the game? Why insert your "authority" on the game? Play ball, make the right calls, earn your paycheck, review tape if you have to, and go home. Too many videos are popping up of officials affecting the outcome of games.
@@david-468 exactly. People are ignorant to think players aren’t juiced up. Look at a guy like Giancarlo Stanton. He’s hurt way too often to convince me he’s not a roider
@@bobs8005 don’t know if I’d say that’s a good example usually they take hgh and that’s supposed to help with injuries, I think it may just be baseball where you can be injured more even on stuff, because more tendon injuries and such compared to like muscle tears obviously they do happen but I’d say a little less common in baseball
@@TedSheckler yeah lmao “I don’t agree with it in Principle, I was upset at it and that’s it” ah so that’s why he made a big deal about it “he was upset and “”””””thats it””””” 😂 sure ain’t it but he had to say something
What favoritism? You're so full of 💩. Yankees haven't had any favoritism since the 50's and 60's. You haters are the ones stirring 💩 up when there's nothing to begin with.
2 weeks ago, I was hospitalized due to spontaneous pneumothorax, and while being bored, I started watching baseball just to have something to do. Seems that my phone heard that I was watching baseball and now keeps shoving me these shorts, and I'm all for it.
yes it's a difference. imagine catching a football with sweaty hands compared to dry hand. now imagine the difference in regular, dry hands opposed to something sticky on your hands that would give you and advantage of catching the the ball not only with dry hands. your ability will still be greater.
It's comes to a point that we have to stop blaming the umps for every little thing. Pitcher was told to wipe off the rosin, and he did a half ass job. 100% the pitchers fault.
@@robertgadling7217 - why was he told to wipe off the rosin? Rosin is on every mound in baseball. Rosin is legal and the ump made a big deal about nothing. This was on the ump, period
@@brianstrutter1501 because like Jomboy said in this very clip. At a certain point it crosses from legal to not. Driving under the influence of alcohol is in fact legal. Just not once you get to over .08%. It’s almost like things aren’t just black and white all the fuckin time. 🙄
Actually he didn’t do a “half ass job.” German only used/uses rosin between inning while in the dugout. So he washed off what had built up, then hit the bag quickly before coming out to pitch again (which is his routine). Ump felt the new rosin, thought it was the OLD rosin not washed off well enough and got mad.
@@bobs8005 well arent you just a beta boy! i dont have to validate anything. i watch pro sports to see competition at its highest level, not to see a bunch of overpaid pansies worrying about breaking a nail or watching a homer too long. its pathetic to say the least. they get millions to sacrifice their bodies. blue collar workers sacrifice their bodies everyday just to survive! i validate my manhood everyday on the job. so run along now, your mommas calling.
To make baseball less intrusive... Starting the 2024 season we will flip a coin and have two players from opposing teams compete in the MLB 2024 baseball game on the PS5...
So does the ump check players hands each time out? Cause otherwise it seems like he never broke any written rules. Just that ump subjective version of “this is too much”
Rosin while a legal substance to dry sweat off of the throwing hand. It is not legal for any subsrance rosin included to come in contact with the ball. Therefore any excess on the hand must be wiped off before the hand and ball come in contact with each other. If not then it is a violation of rule 8.02
SERIOUSLY! JOM, I have followed you since before the trash can stuff and love your takes, but come on. This is ridiculous, you don't even mention the spin rate stuff at all His spin rate in the first 3 innings were off the hook and way higher than he normally throws. He was cheating and they let him off with a warning after he claimed the sticky stuff was "just rosin". This is a joke. Yanks had to cheat to beat the Twins at home. Twins win first two and lose against Dominigo cheating and Cole the master cheater. Twins scored 15 runs in the first 2 games and 1! In the next 2 games? OK. Please redo this.
Wash your hands to get rid of this perfectly legal substance. Also follow my perfectly clear, not subjective at all, instructions to wash your hands "really good". How come you don't know my definition of "really good"? Opposing Mgr: I'm pissed because he didn't wash off the legal substance "really good", he just washed it a "little bit good", and that's just not good enough.
@@jrthmc29 You sure? "pitchers can use rosin or other league-approved substances to help them grip the baseballs, but they cannot go beyond that to substances such as spider tack, pine tar or a now-notorious mixture of sunscreen with sweat and other readily available things during the course of a game"
@@hosatk yes sir, I am sure. It's one of the lesser known rules that is very nuanced yet still in the rule book of MLB and MiLB. Rule 6.02(d) Comment): If at anytime the ball hits the rosin bag it is in play. In the case of rain or wet field, the umpire may instruct the pitcher to carry the rosin bag in his hip pocket. A pitcher may use the rosin bag for the purpose of applying rosin to his bare hand or hands. Neither the pitcher nor any other player shall apply rosin to the ball via by hand or dusting with the rosin bag; neither shall the pitcher nor any other player be permitted to apply rosin from the bag to his glove or dust any part of his uniform with the rosin bag. Another one of these lesser known rules is 6.02(c) (8.02) The pitcher shall not (1) While in the 18-foot circle surrounding the pitcher’s plate, touch the ball after touching his mouth or lips, or touch his mouth or lips while he is in contact with the pitcher’s plate. The pitcher must clearly wipe the fingers of his pitching hand dry before touching the ball or the pitcher’s plate. There is a crazy rule for almost everything in baseball.
@@jrthmc29 Yeah that's strange, but I get it because you have to make rules for every situation or every person trying to take advantage. I still don't see how he broke the rules by having rosin on his hand though. They didn't tell him to wash the ball, but to wash his hands. And telling someone to wash "really good" is entirely subjective. Probably they'll come out with a new rule about how to wash rosin off your hands when you have too much. First they'll need a rule to define how much rosin is too much. Maybe the umps have a rosin scraper or something.😏
technically the rule book does say you can not usa a slingshot. Not verbatim of course but as a slingshot would be a foreign object coming in contact with the ball it would violate rule 8.02(b)
Wait a second. If I recall correctly George Brett was called out after hitting a homerun because his Bat had rosin too far up the handle which the ump claimed could affect the ball the picture was throwing. It seems it cost the Royals a playoff spot . Does the MLB just make up BS or what?
The Brett call was overturned four days after due to the Royals protest. The game was resumed at the moment of the homerun 25 days after and the Royals got the win. So no it played no part in the playoff contention. the reason it was overturned is because the umpire misunderstood the rules which are very clear... ah hell here look *RULE 3.02*(c) The bat handle, for not more than 18 inches from its end, may be covered or treated with any material or substance. Any such material or substance that extends past the 18-inch limitation shall cause the bat to be removed from the game. *NOTE* If the umpire discovers that the bat does not con- form to (c) above until a time during or after which the bat has been used in play, it shall not be grounds for declaring the batter out, or ejected from the game. Rule 3.02(c) Comment (Rule 1.10(c) Comment): If pine tar extends past the 18-inch limitation, then the umpire, on his own initiative or if alerted by the opposing team, shall order the batter to use a different bat. The batter may use the bat later in the game only if the excess substance is removed. If no objections are raised prior to a bat’s use, then a violation of Rule 3.02(c) (Rule 1.10(c)) on that play does not nullify any action or play on the field and no protests of such play shall be allowed. See now why the pitcher was asked to wipe of the sticky from his hands so as it did not come in contact with the ball.
Hahahaha...MLB went half-assed on "sticky-stuff" issue. Meanwhile Bauer is now pitching pro again. The whistle-blower turned Darth Vader. When you make a bunch of non-decisions like what Anheiser-Busch is currently dealing with.
Enough is enough isn’t Rozen in a bag out on a pitchers mound personally I feel the umpire just wanted to hold his hand I guess the other manager was pissed because he kept smoking their batters sucks to lose but too bad
They're messing with pitchers being good and making bases bigger. This is dumb. There was nothing wrong with the game before all these new rules. The legal rosin wasn't having a material effect on his pitching, but you gotta wipe it off
Just an a-hole umpire that watched a fantastic pitching performance and was jealous and wanted to have the same level of success and power as the pitcher. That's one theory It's a bigger power trip to put enormous success and perfection in its place even if you have to make up silly crap and pretend you're a legitimate investigator
Ask the Empire to explain the science behind how it would give him an advantage and he wouldn't be able to do it. I'm sure the best he could do is just have an opinion of how he thinks it might benefit him and that's just a guess. It's like pinetar on the bat nobody can tell you how having tar on the bat gives you an advantage?
Like...do you want your hitters to get 100 mph ball to their face? If it helps the pitcher control the ball then let them use it on both teams.. if someone wants to use roids then cut their hits and hr stats in half but keep their AB count the same... OK the last ones dumb, but rosin and pine tar should be fully legal substances.
"Like a kindergartener..." 🤣🤣🤣 Baldelli was correct. If they told him to wipe his hand, consequences need to happen. These Umpires do it to themselves... idiots.
If it's rosin & rosin is legal why wipe? Rosin yes or rosin no. If yes then drop it. If yes & German is performing great tell your guy to rosin up, too, or zip it.
@Beezlie727 Completely agree. This is not on the players, the Umpires made it enough of a big deal, that they gave an unlawful order. Buuuuuutttttt... they also did follow up on "if" German "actually" did wash his hands. Since he didn't, now they are offended because they were not obeyed. CRAZY!!! They try to control too much...
