I happens by accident sometimes, it's a lot easier to hit the start button on the arcade sticks than it is on a controller. Everyone got serious for a minute because in tournament play it usually gets ruled a forfeit match.
It's typically an accident because most tournaments enforce a game loss on the player who does it. It's common to borrow an arcade stick at the venue depending on how far a player has had to travel, but it can lead to accidental pauses like that when they're unfamiliar (or at least not as familiar) with the layout of the extra buttons.
No, I think it's a really dedicated kind of play-fighting. It's just that some people in the community make the mistake of taking champ seriously. He's just some guy who annoys others for the fun of it (yipes calls it trolling). I have a ton of friends that will insult you way worse than Ryan as a joke; but when you actually get pissed, they immediately apologize for taking it too far...
Child of both worlds here. Switch from stick to pad, depending on the game and I've never paused a match in my life. Way I see it, if you lack the finesse to play pad WITHOUT frantically smearing your caveman thumb all over the place, pausing the game and hittin the home button and checking your messages on accident and all that shit, than pad ain't the problem ...
