A few weeks ago I turned a sequoia (redwood) bowl, cut from a large log. A lot of you requested I do it again but this time turned the other way up so it had a natural edge. How did I get on? Well you had better watch and find out. Will it be an Unbelievable Redwood Transformation?

These two bowls are fantastic. You really brought out nature's beauty in them. As far as that log cabin goes - they'd both go great in the living room, with either of them being used as a fruit bowl.

It is really cool seeing similar blanks turned 2 different ways. I can see why folks tend to go to live-edge for crotch pieces, and why woodturners like them so much. Also, my wife thinks that it is hilarious that woodturners fight over "crotch" pieces.

I love Sequoia wood when turned with skill. You have shown your skill Mike with this half of the the same crotch as the 'sister' bowl. Leaving the knot was a touch of genius I think & as I said in my opening, you have handled & preserved it with great skill & sensitivity. The ripples from the crotch look amazing too & add a touch of class to the already beautiful grain. An amazing piece & I think with the knot & the natural edge put this just ahead of its 'sister' bowl which is also so beautiful. Well done my friend, Don from South Australia.

Hello Mike. When you turned the first bowl I was stunned by how beautifully it turned out. And I am really pleased you have done the second quite quickly, so those who watched the first are still able to make a sound decision as to which they prefer. To me, this one certainly takes this piece of wood to another level. It is fabulous and you should be rightly proud of it. Well done! Now …. The next question …. What are you going to delight us with when you turn the cut off ends from both pieces? 🤔
@MikeHolton
@MikeHolton Год назад
Thanks so much Angela and that is a very good question. The end pieces are not as interesting (although my prove to be) so not sure, I guess the obvious thing to do would be to do the same, turn on standard and one natural edge. But I will give it some thought to see if I can think of something more interesting 😀

Hi Mike. I love the Redwood and how you left some of the knot. The way the crotch splits off into three is very interesting also. A great piece. Cheers, Bill Riley.

Nice work Mike. The bowl looks fantastic and I think it was a good decision to keep the branch. Thanks for the video.
