2 year old video , but i just did this exact upgrade. Same Traeger i think it was 12-13 years old. I had the Yoder 640 delivered on Friday its been running almost the whole time. Jerky, steaks, Smash burgers and breakfast sausage. Yoder is a beast. Traeger did me well! The Yoder 640 is a new adventure!
I just replaced my Traeger Century 885 with this same Yoder model. I was disappointed in my Traeger. Door is warped after just 3 years, and I've had numerous thermometer and control panel failures. cant wait for it to get here. thanks for this video!
Congrats on the Yoder. Quick note incase you ever run it clean of pellets again. When you turn it on, the bottom button on the left is prime. You can use that to prime the unit when empty, or if you are running and leave the lid open a long time, press and hold. It will push some extra pellets in to catch it back up to temp. Happy cooking!
Great video! I have been looking at the YS640 for some time. I do have one thing I would like to point out. If I heard you correctly you said you have used heating pellets in your smoker. Heating pellets contain additives that can contain unpleasant flavors as well as health risks. Always use food grade pellets in your smoker.
I have Camp-chef pallets grill I don’t really like cheap materials low low quality leaking all the smoke 💨 some times don’t even put any smoke on food:( and is not cheep with all accessory I paid around $-1,700 :( and don’t recommend to any one :( and I used to watch Yoder 640 before I found lone star grillz :) Sow I decided to get lone star :) I just ordered one 20x42 Pallet Smoker from Lone Star Grillz :) I was looking at his grills for a while :) finally decided to get one ☝️:)
Hows that ys 640 doing. Im thinking about pulling the trigger n buying one myself. I got a yoder Wichita stick burner and i love it. It be cool if the 640 had option of getting the wheels from the outland or maybe chrome wheels lol. Question any rust on your 640. Behind the grease shield. Thanks
I’m still loving it 3 years later. The meat probes last about a year and that kinda sucks. No rust anywhere to my knowledge. Cook in it 3-4 times a week year round.
10:26 Nice smoker but to be fair you compared an old 4 cyl Ranger to a new Laramie Cummins truck. Not even close to being an Apples to Apples comparison.
I have had a Traeger (POS) then bought a Yoder YS1500 about 5 yrs ago now.....The Yoder has some short comings as well. Door leaks Smoke, The Drip tray is less than desirable, Iy will burn back into the Hopper mine has caught fire 2 x already, the paint on the Yoder is not very good.....I have rebuilt it and Powder Coated the whole thing. If I was to do it again I would go with a Cook Shack and just bypass the Yoder. The Yoder is a good cooker compared to those POS Tragers.....But for the $ the Cook Shack FEC is a much better cooker.
@@koukitype180 oh I am extremely pleased with my Yoder, that Junk Chinese POS Traeger.............No that garbage Can is just that Garbage. My Yoder is better in every way then ANY Traeger.............Where talking the difference between a Kia and a Ferrari.
@@RipitRonhaha A Ferrari that needs to be rebuilt, repainted and that catches on fire? No thank you! I’ve had 6 pellet cookers, (never a Ferrari one though) and my old old Traeger is the one that’s worked the best for me, yet. No bells and whistles obviously, but it’s the old kind that still has a bit of thicker steel, but obviously still a solid sturdy garbage can! Love it when my OLD Traeger produces better results than some of the newer $1-2k pellet cookers, always fun.. That being said, been eye ballin that Lone Star 🫶 and I would never buy a new Traeger! Woke culture taking over, like BudLight. Garbage
@@GreaseMonkeyTV just brought mine from smoker guru but they saying they will cancel my order because they dont deliver to lousiana. going to try atbbq now.
Yoder for the win…Traeger sold out and went Chinese. I had an original USA built Traeger back in the day now it’s YS640 for 9 years without a single hiccup. Made in USA all the way.
I just got one and the manual says after about 30 mins of run time on the initial burn in to wipe the grates and stuff down with vegetable oil. I just got some spray oil and sprayed the inside down and it's been amazing so far.
@@GreaseMonkeyTV yea, i totally understand. I guess I’m just a knucklehead cause I’m having a hard time letting go of wanting Yoder’s flat top charcoal grill.
@@GreaseMonkeyTV pulled the trigger yesterday. Brought my YS640s home. Virgin cook was burgers and sausage. Everything tasted so much better than when I cook on my Weber.
Do you know of an online dealer that will sell and ship to you? The Yoder website just seems to refer to a "find local dealers near you" map and there is nobody near me :(
If you have used heating pellets to cook, I would recommend you not do that. There are fillers/additives in those which can be harmful if ingested from the food you cooked with them.
