Yeah some of the Grant Stone B-grade boots are better than some A-grade you get from other makers. It's the philosophy and eye of the QC person/people, I guess. Should give people confidence to buy seconds from GS. Among the makers I've been introduced to via your videos and IG posts, I personally have more confidence in the finishing quality of GS than in any other maker -- but having said that, my recent shrunken bison from Truman were absolutely perfect. I discovered Grant Stone a few years back and am really impressed by the few pair I have. I just got my walnut bison field boots the other day and they are another winner! I'll have to keep my eye on the seconds offerings.
Thick wool socks will fill in the boot. Those thin laces are nice cause you can cinch it down tighter and make the leather yield a bit more. Nice review.
Good luck finding anything wrong with a GS second! You didn't mention the best part, the smell of that veg tanned leather. I have the same boots and I love them.
Beautiful boots. Have a pair of diesels in Loden suede and edwards in color #8 (factory seconds) and love them both, similar to your observations, the factory second quality is amazing. I noticed a little stitching that wasn’t completely straight but honestly was on par with some other made in America brands (non seconds) I have. The china thing is what it is and people will have their opinions but I don’t think you can argue with the quality that grant stone provides.
Loved the video. Digging the double dose of Bootlosophy in this. Your Grant Stone videos have made me very curious about them, and may make the next boot purchase a Diesel or Edward. Can;t wait to see the next one.
Perhaps these are seconds because the colour doesn't match the typical colour of this leather and somebody returned them. Based on reviews s that seems to be one of the most common reasons/complaints for returning footwear or clothes and maybe Grant Stone decided it was better to sell as a second than have them behaving like a boomerang.

Work style boots like this should be a tad bigger as your feet can swell from working all day, especially in hotter weather. I like them! I have a pair of timberland American craft boots and they remind me of those. Same color leather but Horween I believe.
When I eventually get a pair of these, I'll remember to keep the Grant Stone label side up so the box isn't upside down. Amazing that the one tiny scuff made these B-grade; wonder if a bit of polish/creme would mask that out.
I thought my Grant Stone Reverse Snuff Kudu field boots were a bit big as well. I have to wear thick socks since I have narrow feet. I think they’re very handsome boots.
My Field boots are in walnut bison leather, I thought it looked better on "field" boots. Bison leather is much softer so they felt like gloves from day one. I didn't like d-rings at the top so I replaced them with speed hooks, around half hour DIY job. I also replaced thin cotton laces with leather ones. Wish GS sent leather laces as spear instead of two pairs of thin cotton ones. Sadly that "bumper" piece is not extra layer, vamp stops at seam so it's only single layer as you can see in Rose Anvil video.
Great pair of boots, Teik. It's awesome that it's so tough to find why they're seconds. After you've worn them a little, are you still happy with the size, or do you still think you could have gone a half size smaller? I've never had the Floyd last, only the Leo last from Grant Stone.
My first pair of Grant Stones were these as seconds. I didn’t like them at first, but they grew on me and are now one of my favorite boots. The Minerva leather is perfect for these, in my opinion. Love the stiffness and smell. My seconds had a nick on the end of the welt where it connects. I was surprised as well. Very questionable imperfection to even be considered seconds.
lol I guess I'm part of the 2.7 women watching! I've actually been debating getting the Grant Stone Field Boots, vs their Brass boot, vs the Whites Perry Select which is currently on a father's day sale. I've been really wanting a pair of nice Moc Toes (and yes I have considered a Red Wing 1907, spending the cash on a second pair of Nicks but this time Mocs, and others). I'm disappointed to know the padded collar isn't that soft as I like that feature in boots so I can pull them extra tight at the top, I don't like that the brass boot ends on a speed hook, and Whites... could just use more interesting color leather which I know is just an aesthetic preference of mine... Anyway love your channel, love the boots, and appreciate everything you do including acknowledging the traditional custodians of the land!
Don’t tell anyone, but I think I prefer the Field Boot over the Brass Boot. The Perry Select is something I’m going to get in the next 12 months. I got a pair of Whites Fulton in this sale and I’m thinking of getting the Perry Select come Black Friday. Thanks for your viewership! I really appreciate that!
@@Bootlosophy I will keep that advice in mind! I really do like the design on the field boot and wish it came in their Jungle Kangaroo. I might get the White's simply to take advantage of the sale and see if they Field Boot isn't offered in some other leathers in the future. The Badalassi Carlo is tempting. My Nicks will be in roughout brown chromexcel when they show up (finally in production after a 7 month lead), so leaning away from brown for whatever I do decide on next.
Very informative vid . Teik it must be the nuance of colour that is wrong with the boots. It is definitivly not the announced colour . I like you think it is beautiful as it is but specifications are specifications maan.
