I already had a Gevi 20 Bar that I upgraded with a bottomless portafilter. I also have the filler ring, leveler, WDT tool, and real tamper. But... I kinda wanted something for doing a quick cappuccino or Americano. I picked this Gourmia at Walmart Sunday. I figured since for $50 I'd take a chance. It's actually a pretty neat little rig. I had some decent ground coffee still left. I usually hand-grind whole bean, specialty coffee and go through all the steps with the bottomless PF. The pressurized portafilter that it comes with is meant to be used with ground coffee generally. So, I decided to give the basic setup a run using the medium-fine coffee I had on hand. I didn't expect much but was quite surprised. Using a double dose and setting it for cappuccino with some half & half (more fat, less carbs) it makes a pretty good cup. The nice part is it's pretty quick to do and to follow up with a second if you want to. I'll save the Gevi with the bottomless PF for when I really want to dial it all in. Otherwise, this little machine makes some decent coffee drinks with minimal fuss.
I have been drinking coffee for quite some time but this is my first espresso machine. I have a Ninja that says it does espresso but its not really. I am not familiar with the Gevi 20 bar or what bars are and how the relate. I will do more research, I didnt even know a bottomless portafilter was a thing. Clearly I need to do more research. As for this machine. Still impressed with it. It can whip up some nice drinks fairly quickly. I bought some whole milk and it is much better than the almond milk I used in the video. I will pick up some half & half when i run out of whole milk. Thanks for all the information. I can't believe this deal is still live. A couple of my stores locally still have this available for in store pickup. For the price, This thing is a no brainer and would make a great Christmas gift for anyone that enjoys coffee. Take care and thanks again for the information.
It's good. A few caveats 1) finding a mug that's sizable enough, yet fits under it. 2) possible spillage of froth (see #1) 3) +/- on milk reservoir is unclear 4) Quality. Will it last? Will it break down in a few months? Makes good coffee though.
You can remove the drip tray to give clearance for a bit taller mug but yes. Not all mugs will fit. Not sure on the quality but for $50. Hopefully I can get at least a year out of it. Oh. And Yes. It makes surprisingly good coffee!
I made several more drinks with this today using whole milk and this machine did not disappoint. Easy to use and they turned out delicious. Thanks for watching and commenting. Take care.
On there website they updated the manual I guess they fixed errors. I got one for my wife for Christmas on the Wal-Mart website reviews so many people are returning it I guess the don't read directions!!
Yes. I had my thermometer close and took a measurement. I forget exactly what it was. I will suffer and make myself another cappuccino now and measure the temp for you. Ha ha.
Ok, just made a Cappuccino, thermometer read 145 when it first started coming out then registered up to 155. I then made a latte and it reached temps of 175+. It uses more milk and creates more froth. Very impressive since the milk just came out of the refrigerator. Hope this helps. Take care.
@@DianeStrickland1 my wife uses the unsweetened almond milk. It doesn’t have much flavor. The sweetened almond milk tastes better. But it did not froth very well.
That is what the instructions read. To Prime it move the dial to max. Didn’t say move to clean. I thought it was strange but I just followed the directions.
There is a sticker on top of the water reservoir, it says for priming, move the froth to the "extra" setting. I was a bit confused but I guess it worked alright. I find I am using this machine daily and am enjoying it more and more. What a great find this year!
I have been making videos for years so this video isn’t was started my channel. Also, I bought this with my own money. Not sponsored or given for good reviews. Just an honest review. For $50. I am very impressed. I probably made 5 or so drinks in this thing today (with whole milk) and was impressed with how easy it is to use and how good the drinks turned out. Thanks for watching and commenting. I appreciate talking with you. Take care.
