28:40: James Drury was none other than The Virginian, the star of the show. To my knowledge, the character was never referred to by either his first or last name. He was always just The Virginian.
Hi Duke, thanks for another very entertaining video. I totally agree with you that most of the books in this box won't get you ten bucks. Hopefully we won't have to wait another month for your next video. Cowboy Booger.
Glad to have you back. I'm going to keep an eye out for the Rawhide #1, it's one I don't have yet, coincidentally I just picked up #2 about a week ago. It's nice to see some Gold keys and Dell again, but I doubt your boss went out of his way to get them, I imagine that they were just fodder from picking up some key Marvel issues, but then I happen to be one of the few people left who would pick them over a Marvel or DC key. I hope I'm not alone in this. I suppose I was just born to soon for Marvel Superheroes. As alway keep up the good work and don't forget the Cowboy Booger.
So far I’m enjoying this episode! I’m 23 born 1999 but I understood all these references so far up to rawhide except that superman book I remember the rawhide song from the blues brothers movie I watched that too much as a kid, I’ll be back later to finish this video and find that code word!
😱COWabunga BOy oh boy BOObly GERl Sharon (😍Redhead) Ventura has me Thinging about things , Duke! The Bat S💥🎶⚡t books are my favorite period of the series ; if the Batman TV series had been produced at that time the show would have been even more off beat with touches of sci-fi and fantasy characters in the mix! 😡Star Boy better not get any ideas of massing with Leggy .. I mean Lana Lang there or he'll be a mass of a mess and that's no mistake!
re: National (DC) v. Fawcett lawsuit./ Many forget this but DC never outright won the case! According to a member of the Fawcett family, the case was at a draw until someone discovered that a lazy artist "swiped" a panel from a Superman comic but drew Captain Marvel in place of Superman so Fawcett decided to settle out of court! It's a myth that Cap wasn't still selling, maybe not in the same numbers but good enough to continue; however, as part of the agreement, they promised DC they would no longer publish Captain Marvel. Ultimately, without their heavy hitter but with the anti comic book backlash rising, Fawcett decided to shut down their comic book division and focus on the popularity of their paperback novels and newspaper strip reprints! BATMAN INFO David Vern Reed didn't become the regular writer until #269 to about #302. 260 to 268 were mostly by Denny O'Neil except: Michael Fleisher #265 David Vern Reed #267 (I'm a fan of Vern Reed's tenure! Do you have a mail order service along with a website?)
I do recall that Fawcett never lost so much as lost interest, looking more askance at the time on Freddie W. than Jackie L. The bit about the swiped panel is new to me, however. Thanks for the tip! And notes on DVR noted. No mail order service, other that we are perfectly happy ro sell you stuff through the mail. Best bet is to like Dotcom Comics on Facebook. The retail store is closing soon, but the manager, Dan, will have about 500,000 books to sell off still via the web, eBay, and WhatNot. I'm sure he'd be delighted to fill any want list you might provide.
@@Shanghalla The Captain Marvel info came from an interview with ROSCOE FAWCETT. It used to be on the web but I have trouble finding it on my phone, yet another advantage for Laptops!
