This is the hasegawa kit...i do commission builds occasionally and have a few buddies who flew Harriers, I've built 4 of these. I recognised the sprues immediately and got the chills too! This thing is a bear to get right. The rear canopy deck/LEX/wing assembly is a fucking nightmare..and after that's done you have to work the air intakes into place. Lots of small bits and a ton of sanding/filling. I have a decent skill set and this kit is about the toughest I've seen. DO NOT FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS for the wing assembly...there are articles on the net about approaching those steps but your on your own there...Dry fit and tape everything several times before you glue..

Yes thats right, the kit was first released 2004 by Hasegawa as an AV-8B and then re-boxed as Eduard with a bunch of additional Resin and PE parts plus the new colour schemes. So far it seems to have built fine but I've not quite got around to the really big stuff. Just sub-assembled the cocpit section and nose, then the fuselage. The wings have gone together fine too (so far) but I have noticed some MASSIVE gaps between the fuselage & wings during dry fitting and the fitting is extremely tricky with the alignment tabs etc! Thanks for the heads up and I agree that the instructions on this are a little bit crap. There is a lot of room for improvment when it comes to efficiency on this one. So far though for me it's been a great kit and I would advise other to buy. Hope you can come back to watch the full build when the video is released!

@@TheInnerNerd Yeah, it's a nice kit and builds into a pretty accurate Harrier. That boxing looks pretty sweet with all the extras..the seat and wheels looked sharp. Just a shame the wing/LEX section is such an issue. It's been a while, but I think I put the top and bottom of the LEX together first. Then I glued the bottom wing section to fuselage and dry fitted the LEX and the upper wing half until the gap was minimal on top. This left a fairly manageable seam underneath where the LEX meets the fuselage. Then I lined up the forward section, seated it into the fan blade and dry fitted the rear deck as best I could. There a few ways to approach it and your damn good so you'll figure something out...hopefully the modeling Gods will be with you👍. And I'll def check out the build video. Thanks

Gorgeous looking kit, must be a joy to build and with aftermarket goodies, quite accurate!

Yes one of my favourite kits so far! Poor assembly though a LOT of parts don't fit without alteration but still an enjoyable build! The aftermarket additions are extremely good and take the kit to another level of detail

Nice review! This is on my to get list. I've read some horror stories about the wing to fuselage fit. This is the Hasegawa moulding
@greg8946
@greg8946 4 года назад
You heard right! I've built 4 of these. The rear deck lid/LEX/wing sections are ridiculous and have to be lined up with forward fuselage/cockpit section...then you get the challenge of fitting the air intakes... the best approach is not following the instructions sequence in those stages

I'm plannign something a little extra with this one too so may take a little longer than normal but I'm sure it will be worth it ;) I've not seen a Harrier in the air for years! There is a Spanish EAV-8B at RIAT this year I believe

No option for open gear wells (2:05)? Seems very poor design
@TheInnerNerd
@TheInnerNerd 4 года назад
The kit is designed to show the gear down but no seperate open doors which I find very odd, but if you look at some reference photos the doors are in the closed positon despite the gear being down so isn't an inaccuracy. Just seems a little weird not to have doors as a separate part like on most kits

I'm VERY disappointed in this kit by Eduard!! As for the expense, you normally expect a better quality from them!! At the moment I'm building the Hasegawa 1/48 GR Mk.7 (No. 07236) kit. This video proves that the Eduard and the Hasegawa kits comprise COMPLETELY IDENTICAL plastic parts!! The expense in justifying the Eduard kit may lie in a few more photo etch parts - which the after market Aires etch largely covers anyway (and is cheaper than the Eduard etch). IMHO this kit is NOT worth the money!! The only real difference between these kits lies in the decal sheet. Thanks for the video, it answered my curiosity of which kit was better. IMO they're exactly the same - but Eduard slugs you to pay more!! 👍
@TheInnerNerd
@TheInnerNerd 3 года назад
Yes this kit is just a Redbox of the Hasegawa kit with the extras and different camouflage schemes. But the plastic is identical like you said. You do also get some PE in this so it’s not just the Resin. But the price probably comes from it being a limited run and everything being in one box
@idleonlooker1078
@idleonlooker1078 3 года назад
@@TheInnerNerd I appreciate your view, but in this case "limited run" being a great marketing ploy by Eduard just to buy a reboxed, inferior, kit that's been spruced up with their PE. I bought the Hasegawa kit and PE separately - and the cost was still cheaper than Eduard's rehash. My view is based upon that for the pretty substantial asking price, you'd expect the level of accuracy and detail expected of an Eduard engineered kit - not a cheap and nasty rebox of Hasegawa's 2004 offering.
