I bought one of these for my G920 from Etsy; it was great but after a time the longitudinal stresses you noticed cracked the rim vertically across the centre; I think it was due to the frequent pulling of the paddle shifters, mine were 'firmed up' by a magnetic adapter, not sure if that contributed. On the whole though these 3D printed rims are excellent & certainly give a Logitech wheel a new lease of life.....great content as usual :)
So _that's_ the word I was looking for...longitudinal! Thanks mate, I just wasn't sure when recording the video what the correct phrase was. Glad you enjoyed the unboxing/review though and I couldn't agree more, it's given my wheel a whole new lease of life 😄
Oh trust me, I'm a very happy guy 😍 have recorded a few races with it now and, yeah, it feels great! Definitely need a pair of gloves though, the dye is coming out of the suede and not washing off my hands 😅
Hahaha, I just had to comment before I've seen the whole vid! How fun seeing you light up as a child on christmas when you saw the rim hahaha!! XD A really cool looking rim, and huge congrats on 4000 subscribers mate!!
Oh man, I'd had the box on my desk all day at work and carried it home with me on the train... It was so difficult not to take a sneak peek 😅 but totally worth it. I've never really had anything like this before and it feels like such a treat 😍 Thanks for the congrats too! You know I like to organise community events when I hit milestones 😉
Awesome stuff Alec, happy to hear the review came in useful and you're enjoying the new wheel! The reduced weight really makes the FFB feel more powerful, which is quite a nice bonus considering the G29 doesn't put much out to begin with.
I like using openwheel style rim, but only because I can swap it to the round one in about 20 seconds when I need to. I definitely wouldn't want this kind of rim as a permanent solution, because for many cars it's just not comfortable. Touring cars, historic cars, rally and generally anything with higher rotation are much much better on the round rim. I think you'll swap it back quite soon after the novelty wears off.
I tend not to drive too many cars with high rotation, hardly any rally at all these days either sadly, so shouldn't be too much of an issue 👍 and generally I like to keep the rotation in the wheel down to reduce tyre scrub. I'm sure once I've swapped it over a few times the process will get a little quicker, just need to take some lessons from the Red Bull mechanics 😉
Grats to the wheel rim DDF 😃It looks awesome. I rewarded myself after completing my move to new home with preordering a similar looking GT3 wheel. After your vid I am even more eager to get it! And oh... need to buy the wheel base also to be able to use it. But that's really close now if nothing unexpected happen. Haven't Roamed RaceRoom for awhile now, and will keep my fingers off it until the GT3 wheel is mounted and ready to go. Oh sweet Sim Racing porn :-)
Hey Eaglecott, good to hear you will be back soon and all the best for your new home! : ) I bought a formular style rim for my T300 a few months ago and I am sure you will love yours too. As it forces you to always hold it on the same spots, your muscle memory weighs in and helps you to find the exact steering angles after a few laps on a track.
Eaglecott! Hey mate, congrats on the new house 😁 hope you're keeping well! You've always been one for super cool designs so can't wait to see what you get 👍 although I think a GT3 style wheel would be much more practical for all round driving but I couldn't help myself with the open wheel style since I love those types of car so much.
This just got published at the perfect time ,my paddle shifter mod just arrived yesterday. Was thinking about getting a wheel mod as well but I'm somewhat unsure about it as I'd like to be able to use both wheels. If it would come with a quick release extension then it would be an obvious buy for me but as of now I'll just wait and collect data by watching more content from you I guess. Sounds good to me. :D
I think some kind of quick release system would be massively beneficial, however I'm not sure how this would work as the electronics are integrated into the rim on the stock wheel and behind the rim on the ANSE3D version 🤔 but I'm sure there are some clever people out there who would be able to figure something out!
Thanks Richard, appreciate that mate! I've already recorded a few iRacing videos which should be coming out this week with the new wheel, but the streams will definitely feature it too 👍
No worries Walt, happy to share! Was so tempted to open up the box as soon as it arrived so it took a great deal of restraint to wait all day until I could get home and turn the camera on 😅
Thanks James 😁 I'm still here making videos and plodding along. I remember you supporting me from the early days when it was just rF2 races against the AI! The wheel is great though, have recorded quite a few races with it and even on a GT car feels really nice 😍
If they made a full version wheel it would only take a few mins to change the wheels (6 screws) You can always stick something on the buttons to raise them or print off button extentions :P
That's not a bad idea at all actually 🤔 would make it a lot easier to switch from one type to another! Makes you appreciate something like the fanatec quick release system even more though
Damage would have likely been turned off for this session as it was just a practice run to test out the wheel (I forget, I recorded this over a year ago now 😉) but it's very easy to lose talent in these cars, too much power and round it goes!
Cheers Mausa! Upgrading things one piece at a time every now and then, it's amazing to look back at pictures of the original set up in bedroom 2 and see how different things are.
Ohhh you're a funny guy Dylan 😆 although by that logic every wheel should come with a free DDF...which would be rather disturbing for sure. You open the box and greeted with a "Hello and Welcome!"
If the flex gets too much or the wheel breaks look into the italian Acelith rim. I had two 3d printed ones before I went with acelith. Enjoy buddy, I remember that feeling when I got my first aftermarket g29 rim, it was awesome and I agree with all your observations.
I just had a look at the Acelith and, yep, first thing I saw in the description was a steel plate design so no wonder it's a little more sturdy eh! Hopefully this ANSE3D one can survive until I have the funds for the DD wheel I've been saving up for a while now 😅
It does a little bit, although the G29 can only feel so strong due to it's limited design in the first place. Having a lighter and smaller wheel like the ANSE3D definitely helps though 👍
Sure is! Although my hands are so dirty after using it for an extended period of time 😅 the dye is coming out of the suede on the handle grips so I think I might need to invest in some gloves.
I have a question.... why would you go through all of this effort for a cheap wheel base? At this point, wouldng you be spending as much money as just buying something like a CSL Elite or TS-PC Racer?
In the long term I'm saving up for a direct drive wheel so there's no point me buying something in between like one of those belt driven wheels you mention. Because of the price, it'll be a long while before I get the funds to afford a DD wheel and ANSE3D offered me a very nice discount for this replacement rim (which was only around $100AUD to begin with which is not expensive at all). Not to mention the fact it's a custom design with my own branding on it 😎 so figured I might as well make the most of the G29 I have because...well...I'm probably going to have it for a while.
I'm sure there'll be a solution to the T150 somewhere 👍 I just had a quick look but couldn't see anything obvious, it appears to be a slightly more difficult wheel to mod.
Sure thing Tom, will see what I can do in future videos 👍 I thought about swapping the angle round but yeah, like you say, with only one camera it gets a little difficult when you want to show different things such as my usual 'intro' angle and then over the top, or close in etc. The webcam is mounted on the side monitor and I haven't really got any stands I could use to mount it on either 🤔 so having two cameras would be perfect and I could switch between angles when doing the edit quite easily.
Dan, that was pretty good on the box. Do you play the drums? I used to play the piano. Happy days! All those moments will be lost in time... like tears in the rain (or like me sim-driving in the rain). Ha! Ha! Ha!
I was only just watching Blade runner the other day! Love that movie, love that speech 😍 Back in the UK I used to produce music and also studied audio engineering at uni. Have played instruments and done recording for as long as I can remember really, although not too much recently in the past few years. Started out on guitar and then moved over to piano mainly and although I've never actually 'played' the drums I guess the rhythm comes along with doing all the other stuff too. Have programmed in countless drum beats on my MIDI keyboard 😅
Haha love it Terje! To be fair I've done four races since I installed this new rim and three of the cars had round wheels 😅 so I'm off to a good start...
The main issue with a wheel like this is when you start getting larger rotations and need to cross your arms over, for example rally or historics. On a round rim you can put your hands back on the wheel at any angle but with this style of rim you're limited to putting your hands in a very specific position.
Initially it felt good but over time it became a little weak and, unfortunately, eventually cracked 😥 it's definitely not as sturdy as the default Logitech wheel which is a metal frame and I had no issues with.
I used to have the G29 wheel, pedals and my old G27 shifter too then, roughly 6 months ago, I upgraded my pedals to the Fanatec V3 Clubsports. I then upgraded the shifter because the G27 one just wasn't cutting it anymore (and I also loved the idea of sequential stick, even though I hardly use it) and next on my list is a direct drive wheel. I suppose I could get a middle of the range belt driven wheel for the moment while I save up but...man, my G29 does the job just fine so why spend the money twice? 😉
Should do nicely as you don't tend to need too much rotation in a GT3 car 👍 although you can't manhandle the wheel in the same way you can with the stock G29 rim. I don't know if it was just me but my wheel developed a crack after a little while and eventually snapped down the right handle 😥 so now it's just a decoration on the shelf behind me. ANSE3D have redeveloped the design though and added some extra reinforcement in that area so should be fine now.
Yeah it lasted a fair while but did eventually crack on the top right where my thumb normally goes. But then again, I don't think that's a reflection of the ANSE3D design because I later upgraded to a CSL DD and F1 style wheel and cracked _that_ in the exact same place too 😅 so I'm definitely doing _something_ to cause this specific failure.
@@garb.5220 compared to the Logitech standard rim is a fairly noticeable difference 👍 it's lighter so the motor can move it more easily, also the reduced radius means you need to work harder to move the wheel and fight against the FFB since your hands need to travel a smaller distance and the perceived load is increased
Hey Garry, cheers for the tip! I've tried that previously but didn't particularly like it though 🤔 the car becomes way too sensitive for my inputs and hard to control in a snap situation, also it's easy to over rotate the wheel and start scrubbing the front tyres and wear them down too much. I always match the in-car rotation with my wheel rotation to make sure I get a proper feel for how the car is meant to be 👍 so, for example, if it's 540 in the setup menu then it's 540 in the Logitech software too.
Oh ok how about turning up the FF to around 110 and wheel dampning to around 15 or more thats what i did and its like driving the real thing i reckon mate, but then again i have the t300- rs which has more ff and torque than the g29 but see how you go with it bud cheers, like your video though 👍🙂🍻
@@garryburns6659 yeah it's pretty hard to get something that feels super nice on the G29 but I'm quite happy with what I have so far. I feel like it's a house of cards situation though 😅 you start changing one setting and the whole thing falls down! Eventually I'll get a DD wheel but that might be a while off, you know, just because they're so *ridiculously expensive!* 😬 Appreciate the kind words though mate, glad you enjoyed the video!
The orange goes down very nicely with the Dutch viewers too for some reason 😂 but yes, as far as I can tell ANSE3D only do these mods for Logitech. There are plenty other companies out there who might be able to do other wheels though 👍 there's definitely a big market for this kind of thing.
All in good time mate 😉 all in good time. Things have been changing extremely rapidly over the past few months and I have a feeling that as soon as I make a rig tour video it would become obsolete again rather quickly 😅 which is definitely a good definition of the phrase "first world problem"...
Good spot 🤓 I tend to cut gaps out of my footage where I don't say anything, just to keep to the flow of the video. I guess my arms stayed in the same place 🤔 either that or my pedal cam lagged out for a sec. Who knows, was a while since I recorded this one, can't quite remember anymore!
Good question 🤔 these are manufactured in USA and I'm based in Australia so I would imagine they ship to Malaysia too. Have you tried contacting them through their website to check?
Sure thing 👍 they run on two completely different cables, same as the pedals. Each has its own USB input on the PC and they all register as different devices.
You sure you were driving the same car there mate? 9 seconds faster seems like an awful lot 🤔 even the fastest guys on the leaderboards are only doing 1m 15s!
I think that's more of a word to describe a mechanical component which is designed to oscillate along an axis 🤔 whereas this is more like a flexing direction. It's good, but still not the word I'm thinking of but can't remember 👍
Because I'm probably going to have this Logitech G29 for a long time yet (DD is *expensive* man) and I thought I'd give this a try 😉 it might be weak compared to the top market wheelbases but it doesn't seem to affect my driving too much right now. Plenty of aliens out there rocking the Logitech gear, although I'm definitely not claiming to be one of them 😅 far from it. I've already swapped my pedals out for Fanatec (paid for entirely by the awesome support from the community through channel memberships and stream donations etc) and one of my subs actually made me a custom button box from scratch for free (what an absolute legend) so I'm just taking my equipment upgrades one step at a time when I get the opportunity. ANSE3D sent me a free set of their magnetic paddle shifters to try a few months back and I really enjoyed them so thought I'd pay it back with this custom wheel 👍
Are you sure about that? I can see most Logitech G920 wheels going for around $380AUD whereas this steering wheel is only $123AUD when you use the promo code that ANSE3D gave me 🤔
