Does Iowa have a single tree?
Does Iowa have a single mountain?
Is Iowa just all farms and barns and corn growers? Kinda
Open with tv commercial about farming or something.
The good ole’ Merican farmer. They don’t make them like they used to. Okay they still do, but there’s less of them nowadays. That was in Iowa way back in 1956. Theres a saying - it isn’t the farm that makes a farmer. It’s the love, the hard work and the character.
Someone also once said Farming is a profession of hope. That’s right. It’s a gamble. An educated guess at what you’re gonna get. There’s all sorts of things that can screw you up as a farmer - weather, prices, and of course, politics. A farmer can’t control the weather, and prices always fluctuate, but farmers CAN try and influence politics and they try to do that as much as they can.
But farming’s changin. The ways they farm change and the types of people who farm these days has changed too. And the profession isn’t the same anymore. A recent study showed that depression and suicide are rampant among US farmers, due to the isolation, the high demands of work and the financial highs and lows that come with this noble occupation. In fact farmers take their own lives more often than any other occupation, even the military.
Here in Iowa, they keep pluggin along. Sometimes - a lot of times, farmers feel like they’re losing all the battles. Oh Iowa is still kicking butt when it comes to agricultural production. But the future of farming here is anyone’s guess. But we’ll get to that later. Cause, despite what you think you know about Iowa, it isn’t 100% farms. There’s other stuff going on here, come on now. YOU just might be considering Iowa as a potential new home. And you probably aren’t going to farm. No YOU want to know what other stuff there is to do here, where to live and what it’s like here in one of our finest states.
This is Iowa.

My ancestors immigrated to Iowa in 1852. They landed in New York and only had enough money to buy one small wagon and an ox. They all couldn't fit in the small wagon so they took turns who got to ride and who had to walk....all the way to Iowa. They settled initially in Tama county in which all their neighbors were Meskwaki Indians. They got along very well, where my family ancestors did blacksmithing work for any tribal members that needed it. Later on my great great grandfather moved to Cedar Rapids and opened a saloon. My family passed down these stories so we never would forget where we came from.

As a native Iowan, I was offended in the first 30 seconds. No one here under the age of 70 dresses like that. Most people here aren't even into firearms. Those who are, more likely are toting a rifle for hunting. Nobody, and I mean nobody, here talks like that. We are known here for our UN-accented speech. Perhaps you have us confused with Arkansas or Kentucky. 🤔🤔 I couldn't quite stomach the idea of watching the rest of your little film. But, assuming you continued in the same manner, *thank*you* for doing your part!! Sadly, Mulhollands has recently burned down. The town of Malvern suffered a great loss here. So nice to see it again in this video! I moved here in my young 20's (SW Iowa) to a town of 5500 from a small city in AZ of 25,000. I loved the idea of it, but quickly hated it because of the lack of things to do for young people. but yet here i am now, 25 years later, I still get frustrated that i cant get certain things or have fun activities with out an hour drive to Omaha. But i love only driving 2 miles to work, only filling up on gas every 2 weeks, and knowing who my nieghbors are.

Nick I've always thought that Iowa was the least distinctive state in the Union. There is nothing in particular that sets it apart from the states surrounding it. Which then makes it the most American state. And from what you've shown Iowa has much that is still very good about America.

Loved this video series. One of the best watching experiences on RU-vid, without a doubt. And to all those asking for an unboxing of Canada series, my family and my wife's family and most of our friends have been living in Canada since before it was known by that name. Allow me to summarize: Every corner of this country is either cursed with miserable weather, impossibly unaffordable, as exciting as a load of bread, or, perplexingly, all of the above. Picture USA but without the cultural or scientific output, and with fewer stunning landscapes. There's a reason why so many Canadians end up in USA. Sadly, the cost of living has been rising and the quality of life here has been plummeting steadily for the past 20 years or so. The only reason anyone moves to Canada anymore is to flee an even worse country. Count yourselves lucky, Americans. You've got it pretty good in comparison.

Yes Iowans are nice people in General... Im not an Iowa native.. my family moved here from California when I was 3 years old and I've lived here basically my whole life ever since... 30+ years now I've lived in Iowa.. being raised in Iowa and growing up in Iowa certainly has been an interesting life experience... There's never seems to be a boring or dull moment living in Iowa... Iowans know how to stick together through terrible times and we help each other out even if you're a complete stranger in times of need... Iowa tough, Iowa strong... When times get tough IOWANS remain strong and resilient fighting Natural disasters together and cleaning up after them together and seems to bring Iowans closer together... Here's just a few natural disasters that brought IOWANS closer together since I've lived here in Iowa, Flood of 1993 , Iowa derachio 1998, flood of 2008, flood of 2017 and the most recent one Iowa derachio 2020.... IOWA just like every state does have it's ups and downs but Iowa all ways finds a way to bounce back rather quickly and faster than any other state in America with recovery efforts after a natural disaster happens or occurres

Born in Iowa, left at 18, no job for a short skinny kid. Visited it all my life, sometimes a half dozen times a year. I believe I have driven every national and state numbered highway in the state, many, many rural farm to market blacktops and thousands of gravel roads and dirt roads as well as a pasture or two... maybe a lot more than that when I was younger. Fair treatment of Iowa, sad to see the drugs and gangs, good to see people who really work hard and love the state.
