Is everyone in North Dakota lonely?
Is everyone in North Dakota bored?
Seriously what the hell is there to do in North Dakota?
We’re gonna answer those questions and a whole lot more. So grab your fishing poles and your hockey sticks, we’re gonna unbox the state of North Dakota!
Hey look at that. This is an oil field. These guys are working hard to get all that good black stuff out of the ground. We’re here in western North Dakota in the Bakken Oil Fields, which are kind of a big deal in these parts. Western North Dakota has the third biggest oil field in the US, and the biggest one outside of Texas.
The oil business has been a big deal for North Dakotans. It brought in people from all over the world, and caused a big spike in real estate. And it also brought this state riches. I mean at one point they were making $56 million a DAY in oil pulled out of North Dakota’s lands.
However, the oil boom here has had mixed results, and now that its peaked, folks are lookin around at each other wondering if it was worth it. We’ll talk more about that later. I mean there’s a lot more to North Dakota than just some ole oil fields and macho men walking around.
North Dakota is more than just oil fields. It’s sort of diverse and sort of interesting. If YOU were thinking about moving here, you should sort of know what you’re getting yourself into.
This is North Dakota.

i was sent to Minot Air Force Base for a temporary military work duty there. Obviously having never been anywhere in ND, so on my days off I decided to explore outside the base and see what Minot or ND had to offer. I was dumbfounded on how the the place had no sidewalks or pedestrian crosswalks or any sort of city taxi/public transportation system, so I pretty much had to rent a car out of my pocket because for my personal safety reasons from Minot traffic and that everything was so far apart in such wide open spaces. I love seafood more than i do landfood, so going to a sushi restaurant was more of a challenge because the seafood items aren't as fresh and high quality, yet expensive. BUT the steaks, porks, and chickens on the menu were delicious and on par. People drag racing on public highways and streets proved to be another challenge in Minot when trying to explore or tour the place, and then going to the bars was out of the question for me after having witnessed drunk fights & couples arguing so i kept to myself and drank beers on my own back in my lodge within the military base to be safe after my tour around Minot. Overall, my experience in Minot ND was...meh. The people were extremely nice (when not drunk), and accommodating. I'm glad for my experience in that part of ND, quite the adventure

Bismarck and Mandan have some really nice parks along the river there. This was a really good video Nick, I liked the interview section at the end. Just please stop with the "boring" stuff: that is so subjective. In Manhattan most people also hang out in bars just like in Jamestown. So the ones in Manhattan have more nearby to chose from, but you'll spend more money getting there than in Jamestown unless you are willing to walk 4-5 miles or pedal your bike, and then your bike will most likely get stolen. So besides hanging out in bars what is there to do in a small town in North Dakota: fishing, fly -fishing, hiking, camping, canoeing, biking, motorcycling (on or off road), snow mobiling, golfing, competitive shooting, cross-country skiing, swimming, white water rafting, kayaking, hunting, horseback trekking, boating, water skiing, sailing, etc. Now how much of that can you do in Manhattan?

I lived on a farm just outside Jamestown with my grandparents living in town and I had the best childhood. There were many time that the path from the house to the barn had snow on each side that was taller than me, but at least the wind didn't get me. I know Jamestown has changed and not all for the best. We never locked up anything and left keys in the vehicles, which you can't do now days, but I am looking to move back to the area. That kid you interviewed was incorrect about the BLM riots being peaceful. A bunch of people from out of town came to Fargo, rioted, smashed numerous windows and vandalized the town. Also, as you mention and unbeknownst to many people, the DAPL protest was all about the tribe trying to extort money from the pipeline company. The protestors latched on to some feel good fantasy in which they cast themselves as heroes defending an oppressed minority whilst simultaneously saving the environment. In the end they left behind an environmental disaster that cost the state $38,000,000 to clean up. In fact, what these outsiders did could be described as a mass act of environmental terrorism. North Dakotans tend to be very peaceful, civilized and law-abiding people. So, note to people coming here from other states: If you're some sort of communist, leftist agitator or destructive barbarian, please don't come to North Dakota, you're not welcome here.

You'll freeze to death if you are unprepared. Quickly. Handwarmers and heavy clothes to put on will help and can keep your water from freezing. If youre far enough away that you have to wait 2-3 hours to be rescued, you need to bring cold weather survival gear in your vehicle. You can freeze to death in that time if your truck breaks down.

I grew up in a very small town in ND, and stayed until the 80's. Accurate description, especially about the winter months. My family, before they passed away, had a joke, "if the weather gets 20 degrees or more, consider it a warm day"! Summers were normally great. Around late July/August, activity got busy for the farmers, harvesting their crops. And Sundays during football season were either rooting for the Bison, or for the Minnesota Vikings. Might come back to see what the state is like in person, but NOT during the winter months-my body can't handle it now.

It astonishes me to hear Grand Forks as a "dangerous place". It probably is now. I was 13 when we moved there in 1990, and lived there till 1993. It was considered an ultra-safe city/town. You could leave your door unlocked, car running at the Valley Dairy etc. The most "dangerous" thing you would possibly encounter were the moose! In fact the whole state was known to be the definition of safe. Sad what's become of some of these places in America! The last time I visited there was in 2003, and I could see the place had changed quite a bit.

Lewis and Clark landed at Fort Mandan during their famous trek. They were taken aback by the Mandans, since they had blue eyes, red hair, and spoke a variation of Welsh. Their community was laid out like a Welsh village, with swept streets, and log cabin-like houses, absolutely unlike their neighboring Native American tribes. Another visitor, George Catlin, 30 years later, had some Welshmen in his traveling party, and they spoke Welsh with the inhabitants, who understood them clearly. They said they were descendants of Prince Madoc, who came from Wales roughly 700 years earlier. All the Lewis and Clark notes relating to Fort Mandan were mysteriously destroyed. Meriwether Lewis, a relative of Thomas Jefferson, was assassinated a few years later. Some of Lewis' descendants include the Arquette acting family.
