It would've been such a challenge! I mean, outside of the artistry of it, there are other difficulties. Like, as far as I understand, the enamel would've even been a different color when it was applied, versus after firing it. So think it would've had to be fired twice, once for the blank and once for the enamel. Just, needlessly more difficult in the pursuit of perfection. What a wonderful thing to do.

The flowers are amazing. Just the colors are enough to set them apart from almost all other antique ceramics.

I really do too. Those scalloped plates are so thin you can see through them! They're perfect little things.

Yeah, I don't think these were their super typical export plates. Certainly the most enameling I've seen on Kutani pieces, little as there is.
